Kinda strange to hear that people were surprised by the changes in how jump is mapped on the keyboard. I actually had a popup after first time entering the main menu, and it said something like 'we reset your keybindings and set vaulting on press and jump on release, try it out before changing'. Though it's possible that popup itself is bugged and didn't show for majority of people?

I use the armor plate system a lot. Putting better plates in different armor like the Kirasa-N makes it stronger and also come back more often from insurance.

How to Learn a Map in EFT: Spawn in. Run Around really fast looking for loot and PMC's. Die and get REALY upset. Have vivid nightmares of being killed. Wake up sweating with perfect memory of map through PTSD.

Ideas: Put a map in your special slot Tier 1, paper map, no marks Tier 2, Garmin-style device, infil/exfil, quest marks from traders (GPS feature broken due to lore reasons, so just a map) Ground zero 1-5, solo, no found in raid, no insurance, curated loot (tailored to early hideout and barters) 5-15, 4-6 pmcs, 3-man team limit, current loot pool, lower time to 35 mins No access after 15

as a note about the maps, in this patch, if you equip a map on your character, you can check the map screen in the map selection screen before starting the queue and it will tell you where all the extracts are (shoreline map didn't get updated yet)

I'd just like to comment on the maps in game issue, I already mentioned this a few times in the past when they added the special slots. We have a compass, watch, range finder etc, and we also have in game maps which are unusable. How about this: they make another gadget - GPS. If you have it equipped and open an in game map it would show your position.

Gotta disagree on the armour takes, love it, and can't wait until we have deeper firearm customization as well. Ill get into a fight, win. Drop my armour, swap the front and back plates. Find a new level 5 plate later on, drop my back plate, put the lvl4 front plate in the back, put the 5 in front. I buy scav armour, and put level 5 plates in it and dress up like a local. I had to take on the 2 sniper scavs by the Shoreline RR exfil. They aggro'd onto me full tilt. I used land cover to close distance to about 80m, before I ran out of good useable cover. I just said fuck it stood up and took them head on with my MP-153(BMG). Tanked 4 hits, doing 4 damage to my 5 plate, and 0 damage to me. I felt like a fucking Juggernaut. Also today, I had a buddy move out of the way, so I started shooting at our contact, buddy just strafes right back in front of me. His back plate tanks both of my Lasermatch rounds. He wouldnt have even noticed if I didn't apologize.

I love the plate sytem. Been using it.

Pocket Slots and Rig Slots in your stash should have a drop down type menu. It should breakout into Meds, Magazines, Rations, Throwables, Currency. From there, we should be able to quickly pop in Bleed heals, medkits, magazines, food, water, grenades. EVEN moreso improving the selections we have for kitting up quicker.

Can confirm recoil is why i came back. Lvl 34 since wipe.

I died so many times learning the extracts and tasks on ground zero it was actually fun to learn the hard way. It feels rewarding in my opinion.

Loved the inside baseball KZfaq discussion! I wish y'all would have guests on more often. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy listening to the two of you just fine, but it's nice to have that third viewpoint on the more polarizing issues and to help steer the conversation in directions it might not have gone otherwise. It would be cool to see maybe Airwing, Velion, Desmond, Nice Guy, That Friendly Guy, Axel, etc. come through once in a while.

I've been changing plates out - I put level 4 plates in level 6 gear, and level 6 plates in level 3/4 armor. It helps me get it back in insurance.

Okay @thepogcastpod I don't know where to put this idea so I'm putting it here! Realistic scav interactions within their environment, why is noone questioning why scavs are outside looking into the ether in the middle of a field? Have them in groups chatting around a fire in Russian, drinking,laughing, smoking cigarettes, or leaning up against a wall or sitting in an office with a gun against the wall. I am thinking MW 2019 events that are proximity based on how they interact with the player. Even becoming increasingly aware of pmcs depending on audio. This improvement along with the lighting changes we are hearing about could make EFT A DIFFERENT GAME ENTIRELY! Anyway, thanks for reading my rant, love the content man! Happy Raiding 😉

I am the small % of players who loves the armor change and how in depth it is. I've only got max traders once, so I'm used to running mid grade kits. I tried to run the best level gear that I can replace. But also super concerned about weight so I was limited with what PC I could wear. Now I can jam the poly plates into whatever rig I want, I never ran boss armors, nor can I consistently beat them, but now tagillas lightweight plates are a tempting option. Before ammo presents I used the present system to equip my meds in my pocket, ears, helmet, face cover, glasses, and 4 mags of 556, with the bottom 10 RDS as tracer. And would just hoard 8-9 copies of my mmac kit. I love the fashion element to tarkov and messing with gear I used irl. I won't choose the "meta/optimal" path as I disagreed with it personally, but now if I get a player with class 5/6 western plates I might just Ratfuck his PC for the upgrade.

Ground Zero was nuts. I got so many kills there, and I was not really trying to...

Preset system is so lackluster because you can't overlay multiple presets on top one another and don't have finer control of components. You can't have 2 same presets where one says "take AFAK of X durability" and another says "skip slot if item in place" so it doesn't replace the AFAK you already have. It keeps switching out docs cases, throwing out perfectly usable 389/400 AFAKs for 400/400 ones (making you spend clicks to put it back in the medcase), there's no option to click a slot and say "Use either of these 4 Grenades but not M61 or Impact". It's frustrating, they have the framework for a good system but not the system.

The armor system isn't a meaningful addition when you have access to the best gear. But as a more casual player, I can attest that finding class 6 plate and running it in a Kirasa was fun. Tarkov isn't just about the top 1% folks optimizing their loadouts, it's also about timmies using whatever they find and having some additional opportunities to increase their survival chances.

As a new player, the thought of having a map that marked exfils and your infil, really gets me moist lol

i wouldnt use in-game map anyway, because its way better to have a map on a second screen while running around, not having to open a menu in-game

For the Map thing, only needed is Exfil, in point and quest marks(It's better to mark them yourself upon reading from quest for example, to have a button mark on map.) I feel that is better as still there is interaction for it, like "you did yourself" initiative.

I mean maybe it's just me, but I like the choice and flexiblity of the now amour system. If you don't have time or interest in it you can just buy an otv from ragman or a ratrig from the flea and be done with it. But if you want to make an amour that fits your needs, with x plate because it's light and class 4, and y rig because it has 2x2 slots and your using an rpd, this new system lets you do that and that feels really empowering. Between the weight, material, class and profile of plates, I think there's acctually a lot more interesting choices to make between different plates then between different weapon attachments where it's just more recoil and more ergo better, and people love that system.

Totally feel the frustration Jesse felt in his story at 53:50. Awesome that they fixed the recoil, and the left hand peak + vault is a good addition. Next up they NEED to fix the AI.

Commenting on the "New player experience" section as a product manager in tech myself. Veritas is absolutely correct, but it sounds to me like he is saying it with spite. I agree with the reasoning but not with the sentiment. This is absolutely the right call by BSG to not invest in maps. Adding a map or solving any other problem that the community has already solved or could solve has marginal returns on that investment, it's already solved. What are you gaining exactly for precious limited dev-hours? To not have to alt/tab or use the second monitor? Speaking as a relatively new player I can guarantee you that I would alt-tab anyways because there are many reasons not only limited to maps. Also the community solutions are really good, so the bar is very high to compete. So they would invest all this time and it would net you almost nothing. The opportunity cost is simply too high when there are so many other important opportunities to improve the game. To me it's basically a question of whether they want the game to continue to evolve or to become more polished with the current feature surface. To me it looks like they have bigger ambitions and want it to evolve. Once they move into polish territory it becomes more relevant to consider things like the new player experience and presentation, and then maps is one of 10s of issues that combined needs to be fixed to have a noticeable effect on the new player experience (i.e. a very big effort). If you have these adjacent systems in vertical, it also becomes more cumbersome to change or add content on the horizontal (e.g. adding new maps now requires lots of implementation just for the mapping system to work and you can forget about ever merging maps). So there is a long term opportunity cost of addressing this too early.

what ever is on your PMC at the point on looking up the stats is what is on the PMC, if the PMC dies mid raid he'll show up as a naked

In regards to the preset system - While the ability to "save" a preset is pretty much useless, the dropdowns on each item slot does save an incredible amount of time especially early wipe. Not having to search for helmets or headphones or backpacks or balaclavas definitely is nice.

I will say. Im not a new player, but i generally play a few weeks into a wipe. Get burned out and quit playing. This is by FAR the best wipe ive played. My survivability is down but im having much more fun and not being afraid to engage in combat with the recoil rework.

I had to watch the Billy Mitchel in multiple sittings and 48min is pretty close to my needed chunking.

i wish i could reliably get into raids, that would be neat, lost so many characters due to random disconnect issues this wipe

We already have arena fork, we need one more fork: the one without full drop. Make it so that only pouches are lootable, your gun is yours, your rig is yours. Fine tuning will make much more sense, your buddies will have much easier time recognizing you cause you look same every round, you wouldn’t need to spend 99% of the time in stash: you die, you resupply meds, ammo and food and go again. Guns and attachment have got to be much more rare though, Diablo style

What about an in-game map, that updates as you find/learn new things? (Theory crafting) So initially its basically just a satalite or topographic map of the area, maybe some major POIs are already marked like LeXOS or something, but as you discover things, hand drawn sketches appear on the map. Like the location of mines around LEXOS and the USEC camp. The various stores in Interchange get hand drawn. It would just happen in real time as you discovered them. Maybe even after you've looted an area with a plethora of a certain kind of loot a certain number of times, like computers, a PC symbol would get added in that location on your map. It would be a tangible way to see that you as a player are learning new things about the game.

The map idea is golden. You Could even have a skill system in game, or quest to make it immersive.

I felt like your take on armor system was super wrong. Me and all of my freinds are using it and swapping plates and we love it. You said it matters in 10% of cases, and that is way more than enough for me

But I also loved your headset vids back in the day. I know both is a lot but it doesn't have to be polished. People still watch.

You guys are right about new player play time for sure. I bought the game years ago with a bud on the initial beta launch. My friend said it wasnt for him after like 2 sessions. I struggle bussed for a few weeks trying to learn the game, but it sucked tackling the learning curve solo and the resources then were not great. Fortunately I have some friends who just picked it up out of the blue, so I had a reason to reinstall and Im glad I did.

When Veritas makes his exit and gets replaced by this other dude, just know that I called the fact that he was no longer interested in doing this about two episodes ago.

as a new player, i think there needs to be a lower level cap for ground zero. the key/hard drive i needed was camped by level 15+ multiple raids in a row with insane gear to fight as new players. A REAL in game map like you guys are talking about would be great. I only have 1 monitor so looking for a map online while in raid is bad. I really just want to know where exfils are and where mines are.

A map or GPS on your PMC's forearm would be amazing. Also mines and Claymores shouldnt be invisible. You cant just "know" you'll blow up, there has to be something indicating a trap. Even if its subtle.

I want to add I love how candid Veritas was with his analytics. It's important to understand ROI in relation to content, even content that blows up, as I think people assume content creators rake it in on stuff that when broken down to an hourly rate it's actually fairly meagre earnings!

Until you can get all info from the game and not have to use a third party site to know how to extract, and how to do your quests, then it's not new player friendly.

I just started playing around a week ago. My stash and wallet are empty, but i only played factory and i finally learned the map. Im slowly crawling my roubles up lol

When it comes to the armor system, i dont mess with plates. Pure laziness is the main reason. I dont live often enough and from what ive seen nothing ever really gets damaged. I might lose a couple of points on a plate or armor but i just get arm pitted or throated before the armor does anyrhing lol

I do some minimal changes to my armor, and prefer some base sets over others.

Regards the maps, as a fairly new player I wouldn't even be mad if it was a fog of war map, so you infil and are told your extracts and their direction relative to your position, north, east and south east for example, and as you explore you clear the map for 200 yards or so around you, so you still have to find places to begin with but eventually you'll map out the area and have the infils and extracts revealed.

I enjoy the peek into video stats and monetisation, gives me a more grounded view on the work that goes in to video making. How do you account for people miss clicking/fat fingering on a video and then backing out?

The preset system is almost good, except is buys every single weapon part twice and dumps your meds back into the stash so it can buy the same med again.

25:30 that entire discussion: i'd say also do North-up maps instead of South-up maps since the vast majority of people are unfamiliar with maps having south as the upper side. Or it could be a custom setting. As for ground zero. I'd say also give people a chance to ignore the quests and sort of "skip" them. As for armour, I'd say they did it well. Because the logic you are using also can be applied this way: are you even incentivized in getting a slick if you can just put on a paca? It doesn't matter. Well the exact same is with the plates. I always swap out plates if I have them available

I dont think there is a "triple bullet bug". It's jsut desync. The VSS shoots 1 round every 66ms. It only takes a little more than 0.1s of desync to make it appear that you are dying to one bullet, when you are actually getting shot 3 times. When they redid the code to improve desync, it did make it a little bit better, but it's only really noticeable when you are fighting the goons. Now you realise they are shooting at you and actually have a chance to get behind cover, isntead of just dying isntantly. Still a lot of work that needs to be done on desync.

No wonder I had a hard time getting to my rat spot. They changed jump to release

Started late this wipe and my fucking god was Ground Zero a nightmare. Reminds me a bit of old Customs, just one big choke you have to make it through.

its funny only time i have died to a scav is when i put myself in a bad position almost like in real life crazy right

my favourite thing about tarkov is the granuliarity. And the fact that i loose anything i make when i die. I like realism above all, the change to plates was something I really enjoyed. I strongly dislike that you can heal in raid i would like it to punish you far more for being shot.. I like Tarkov purely because of the realism. I like that i can use my actual gun and body armour knowledge in game.

Does no-one realise there already are ingame maps which you can add notes too and have extracts marked... and there's also a compass in game.

As a casual the main problem I have with Tarkov is the loading times. I might have an hour or 2 to play and it takes entirely too long to load into a map. Pmc or scav, then get domed 2 mins into the raid

EFT players are a lot like OSRS players sometimes. "I grinded this so you should too" The new player experience is brutal. I had a friend of a friend talking to us for a week and a half (schedules never lined up to play together) and it consisted of him getting absolutely tarkov'd for that whole time until he quit and hasn't touched the game again. We just had another friend play a game or two offline with two of us watching over his shoulder, giving him tips, explaining what happened, and after the 2nd offline raid he said "This is so in-depth, how did you guys learn this?". If it wasn't for the million other resources (and knowing how to find them), EFT is an awful new player experience.

As someone who has played tarkov since alpha, tarkov hasn’t values players time since quests came out and they’ve just been consistently make it value players time less and less

If they want to go off realism BSG should implement of map based off the knowledge that anyone who has been in the military will have already gathered the info necessary to navigate an area. Or at the very least be able to map it out after being in that area at least once. Also having the exfils marked would be a great quality of life as a video game. You can't have everything realistic and expect people to like it. Tarkov is a fantastic game but it does need more QOL changes.

Arena Breakout have curated story driven introduction on first map with cutscenes and stuff, AB teaches you basics and only then drops you into PVP. GZ can be done that way: play introduction and teach players by dropping then into events that lead into GZ current state.
