TARS Alpha Demonstration for DCS A-10

Introducing TARS, the Tactical Aviation Radio System for DCS: A-10. TARS is a mod that integrates DCS: A-10's radios and Teamspeak 3 for more immersive multiplayer gameplay. This early alpha footage demonstrates some of the radio panel integration and radio reception effects caused by distance from the transmitter. Thanks to everyone who participated in the IL-2 game that I'm using as demo audio.
Planned TARS features include:
Intercom Panel Integration
Radio Horizon Enforcement
Virtual Spectator Channel
Client-Based Architecture
Planned Compatibility with Black Shark
Radio Sound Effects
Everything in this video that you hear from the "radio" was recorded from Teamspeak 3 using the TARS plugin.

I made a mistake when I wrote that. I did not fully understand the way it was mapped out. Instead, once I got my warthog Hotas joystick, I simply had a 4 way MIC switch which I used to map all the buttons to. It would still be a slight pain for people without the multiple buttons though.

@TheOneRaf Its pretty stable right now with 1.0 and when TS3 releases their new sound system we hope to get it pretty rock solid.

Yes TARs is dead the creator had real life stuff to do. But we now have Universal Radio which is just as good if not better.

Think of the possibilities. I mean initially for me this means my clanmates and I can have true radio realism (as ACRE provides for ArmA II, mentioned below) while flying A-10C, but it could go even further. Once there are regular, populated, persistent servers it could go as far as "Pilot Radio FM" or something that broadcasts a music or internet music radio feed on a certain freq to listen to as you fly (via that servers TS3) - in a way that's built into the games audio engine.

He's using a Track IR. A device you attach to your headset or hat that moves the camera with your head. Visit the naturalpoint website.

@8floydii8 You can listen on as many channels as you have radios (you have three in the game). If you tune one of your radios to another channel, you can talk to whoever is on that channel and is within range of your radio. We're trying to get it as close to how it works for real without sacrificing gameplay and stability.

This is great! I fully support idea as its missing in vanilla DCS-A10C. I see You're planning to add some features. Let me ask You one question. Are You going to include KY-58 Secure Voice Control as a condition under specific code set flight elements are able to hear comms ? With beta4 and having arguments it would be quite simple, and well adding immersion to the sim!

That's awesome mate. Will players be able to listen on more than one channel at a time and talk on discreet channels? I don't know how that works in the actual aircraft though.

What with TARS for DCS:World? Maybe you can make radios for combined arms players for GA and AG communications? I need any way to realistic communication between JTAC and my hog.

i have dcsworld sinds this week , and olso the a10c , do i have to run ts3 to have tars workin? is it intigrated or do i need to install the mod ?

I have installed 2 versions of TeamSpeak to get TARS running again I have TS x64 up-to-date (3.0.14) and TS x86 downgraded to 3.0.11.1 wich was the latest version ot TS compatible with TARS (and ACRE btw).

Ehh.... i love this system, but the biggest and most problematic thing about it, is that its not able to map the 3 Radio keys to a joystick... No thanks. Until that is made possible, this is more of a liability to my gameplay than a tool. Its a shame too, i would really like to use this on my thrustmaster hotas.

Sorry for the late reply to this. I had to put the project into a deep freeze to focus on studying for my doctorate. There's an application called SimpleRadio that the community seems to find useful, and it does what TARS did. I would look that up.
