How To EASILY Swap Old Briggs Carb & Gas Tank To Newer Style Carb and Tank

In "She Runs Like A Cheese Champ", Taryl goes over how to properly swap over a newer style gas tank and carb on an old Briggs and Stratton 4HP engine. If you have an old Sensation mower (or other brand) and the gas tank rots through, you can use this method to keep it going as the tank is no longer available. Before and after the fix, local yokel "Scruffy", has Junior pick up his mower. But boy does Scruffy have his own strange way of getting it going. Check it all out here and be sure to subscribe to the channel and ring the bell for notifications. And as always, There's Your Dinner!!

Oh cool! I have a same Sensation brand with the same old Briggs motor shown here except horizontal and is in/on a debris blower found in the back of an old storage trailer at an 2021 resort auction- it’s at least 40 yrs old and solid metal even the serial number sticker is metal!As opposed to a similar updated model I saw at a local power equipment dealer: Not a solid cast iron motor,looked like it was 80% plastic all for $8-900-$1,000+. This one is still powerful & pushes itself backwards - it just needed some elbow grease, patience intricately cleaning out the gas tank & overhauling the carburetor and a new spark plug. Ty Taryl

Great idea swapping out the old carbitrator for the new style. Goes to show not much has changed over the years from the original design. A true "classic". Also, it's nice to see some vintage machines still going strong. Keep on keepin' on.

I ran a small engine repair years ago and still work on lawn mowers from time to time. I'm an old man and recognize a lot of the older engines you work on. I've got an old Moto Mower push mower with the offset front wheel for the discharge my father-in-law owned from the late 50's or 60's (I think). I'm going to restore it this summer. I'm a fellow Hoosier in east central Indiana. I've watched all your videos and would rather watch you and your gang than anything else! Truly enjoy you and you are one very good hand at your trade. Thanks for all you do.

I love those old B&S engines with this type of carburators. Very reliable and runs for ever. Cheap and easy to maintain. Change the diaphragm, do all over cleaning, clean sparkplug, new gazoline and oil and the engine runs again.

@@loktom4068 That is awesome,just like cars the newer mowers have all kinds of unnecessary things, pretty soon they will be able to take pictures of your lawn while you mow it and send it to your relatives in Australia via a live feed (maybe they are already doing that,lol), my mower is 20 years old and although not as old as yours its simple as it can be and i love it

@WJCTechyman 2 жыл бұрын
@@loktom4068 I don't know about that, Hondas are incredibly reliable. I have a 40 year old HS35 snow thrower with a Honda G150 flathead and it starts first pull. The same goes for an old Honda tiller with a Honda flathead that dates back to the late 1970s. They tend to run much quieter, smoother and cleaner than Briggs counterparts ever did.

I just got a mower with this exact engine and it was updated with the newer plastic carb, I specifically bought it because they run forever, got it for $60 and it'll run longer than any new mower from the big box stores today. I also had the issue with the rubber elbow to fitting onto the breather tube, this video showed me how to fix it for good, thanks a lot.

At home on the farm in the '50's our first power mower was a 19" Lawnboy with rear discharge. The sparkplug was at the front and I can still see my dad reaching over to the 'kill' lever and pushing the mower backwards and into his toes. Not a pretty sight. No amputations but nasty wounds. Nice to see how that emulsion tube pops out. I thought you were done working on the floor! Great Cast Al. deck.

Hi Taryl. Thank you for this video. It was very helpful in getting an old Snapper running again. A patina'd 1981 Snapper 21350P. Waiting for the diaphragm, spring, and air filter to be able to use the original carb and tank. Using one of your other videos, I swapped in a newer electronic coil. I've added your channel to my subscriptions. Between you, Steve's Small Engine Saloon, Bruce Pender, and Doublewide6, I'm learning enough to be a fair hand at small engine repair.

I love your videos. You're so good it's incredible. I also think your camera man and your lighting is usually so very, very good and I think that's what really makes your videos easy to follow. I really appreciate that because so many videos on youtube have poor camera work and horrible lighting. So keep up the good work. You make it all seem so easy, when I know it's not. That's the mark of a true professional. Your knowledge is tremendous and your ability to convey that to us commoners is off the charts good. Keep 'em coming. Thanks again.

Good video Taryl. The first engine I ever overhauled was a 4.0hp B&S from the late 70's when I was 10 years old back in 1980. Good memories. Now fast forward 40 years I recently had one of the worst customer service experiences ever with Stens. This involved an air filter that would not fit properly on my Cub Cadet 3205. The phone representative was a nightmare to deal with and my email to them fell on deaf ears, no response. I will never use another Sten's product again over that experience. Take care -Glen

Sensation mowers - had to look those up. There is a website dedicated to these mowers created by Sensation enthusiasts. Turns out those mowers were made just down the road from me in Omaha, Ne. Sensation was bought by Gilson, who was bought by Lawn Boy, who was bought by Toro. First engine I overhauled was a Briggs of that vintage on a Toro whirlwind push mower.

Get a tube of Seal-all and squeeze a blob out in a dry perforated tank. It'll seal up the small holes in the steel tank where the dimple is where the pickup tube goes. Just squirt in a blob and it'll level itself out. Give it a while to cure and fill it up and go to work. I've done a 5 and a 4 horse like this. So far, so good on several seasons of leak stopping.
