I'm from Germany and I think it's great that Phil Collins sang the songs in different languages for the different countries! Hear him sing in german was strange, but he did it very well!

"No matter where I go, you will always be my mother." "And you will always be in my heart." Fun Fact: Theatrical directorial debut of Chris Buck. Historical Fact: This was the last animated movie of the Disney Renaissance Era. Box-Office Success Fact: Surpassed Greystoke: The Legend Of Tarzan, Lord Of The Apes (1984) as the highest-grossing Tarzan film, and holds the record to this day. Method Animator Fact: To see how Tarzan's (Tony Goldwyn) body would move while sliding down a log, the animators based his movement on that of pro skateboarder Tony Hawk while on his skateboard. What Script Fact: Minnie Driver largely ad-libbed the breathless speech in which Jane tells her father (Nigel Hawthorne) and Clayton (Brian Blessed) about meeting Tarzan (Tony Goldwyn) for the first time. Voice Play Fact: The signature "Tarzan Yell" is provided by Brian Blessed, the voice of this movie's villain Clayton. because after noticing that Tony Goldwyn could not make a convincing scream, Blessed went to one of the producers to tell him that he could do it, the producer refused at first but after he yelled in front of him, he accepted without hesitation. Location Location Fact: The movie is set in eastern Africa. This can be seen on a drawing of Tarzan (Tony Goldwyn) that Jane (Minnie Driver) is working on during the Strangers Like Me (1999) musical sequence. It can be seen labelled in the corner. Earlier in the movie, Professor Porter (Nigel Hawthorne) mentions moving westward, deeper into the jungle, which would make the ocean on the eastern coast. It is possible that the movie might be set in Kenya, which was at the time as a protectorate of Britain located on the eastern coast of Africa. Kenya also has thick jungles on its coasts, much like the ones seen in this movie.

Man, I am WITH you about kids' movies needing scary moments. Some stuff for kids should be sweet and comfortable and educational, but kids grow up, and growing up means being challenged, confronting new things and forming your own ideas. I believe fiction is an important stepping-stone when it comes to personal growth for the young folks, and can be equally powerful for adults. But yeah, I remember seeing this movie at the drive-in theatre when I was a kid. What a time! I also grew up with Aladdin, the Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. All of them were formative films for me and contributed massively to my love for art, drawing, storytelling, and film in general. But while the Disney Renassaince was amazing, there inevitably comes the fall... and I remember how disappointed I felt as year after year, there was less and less of the beautiful, hand-drawn animation I'd come to love. Now, I don't know if you've seen these films or not, but as HUGE fan of Disney's animated works, I love to reccomend them to folks because they are, in my mind, underrated gems: "Treasure Planet" and "Atlantis: The Lost Empire". Disney did those movies dirty, and STILL does them dirty by effectively ignoring them (as they do with "Hunchback" to this day). But yeah! Give those films a shot. And if you want to see more gorgeously animated and well-crafted family films, I have no shortage of reccomendations!

All of the backgrounds are called deep canvas, and they were built for this movie. Glenn Keane, who was the key animator for Tarzan and Ariel and beast and Aladdin helped design it. He designed a lot of the action scenes just seeing skateboarders while he was in France at the time. He is my favorite animator.

I love Tarzan! ❤ It's one of my favorite Disney made cartoon. The cast and music was perfection! Phil Collins won the Oscar for the OST that year! It was so beautiful, I cried. ❤

I believe the animators studied skateboarders and athletes like that to animate Tarzan's movement through the trees.

Thank you for this reaction! This is one of my absolute favorite Disney films hands down! My favorite song is “You’ll Be In My Heart”, which was written by Phil Collins as a lullaby to his daughter. I aspire to perform in the stage musical adaption someday. 🤎💚💛💜🦍🍃💐

Tarzan was a major shift for Disney Animations. The computer tech from Little Mermaid thru Mulan hit it's peak in this movie. The animation is my favorite part of this movie. IMHO, I would love a sequel film based on the jaguar! I think the soundtrack stands out so much is bc Collins is singing the songs in the background, VS the long standing tradition of Disney musicals. This film really ended the form/tradition of Disney cartoons being full on musicals that was established in the 80s.

I know I may be bias, but this is THE movie of my childhood, I think Son of Man is the most underrated Disney song of all time, You'll be in my heart always makes me cry. I just have more of a personal connection to this because I was adopted so I can relate to a lot of the feelings of this film. One of my personal favorite movies ever

The animation in this film is top teir. Glenne Keane is a MASTER of weight and movement animation. Every lead character that he animated stands out. I fell down a Glenn Keane rabbit hole after this film came out and fell in love with his work. Watch the 'making of' for Tarzan...it's well worth it!!

Fun fact-Jane Goodall has worked with Gorillas on teaching them to use computers. Sha has said they get very happy and exited when they figure out how to do something on the computer. She didn’t go into details but I imagine the simplest things like opening a web browser or figuring out how to play music would absolutely delight them! 😊

Older generations are familiar with the Tarzan films of the 1930's and 1940's, starring Johnny Weissmuller (Olympic Swimmer). Though they maybe considered dated or racist by today's standards, older generations became acquainted with Tarzan's adventures and heroism and the everyday challenges of his jungle home. :)

I have made it a mission that when I become a parent, I would sing You'll Be In My Heart to soothe their crying. While I doubt I'd do Phil Collins due justice, but I'd try hard to emulate the emotion behind the lyrics.

Fun fact: It's actually Clayton's VA... of all characters lolz... who does Tarzan's jungle cry. And you're definitely not the only one who thought Terk was a guy. In fact, there's a Disney sequel series for Tarzan, and in one scene, Tantor asks, "You're a girl??" Terk: "Hey, watch it, buddy, I'm gonna..." lololz.

I was going to say the same thing. The full title, by the way, is "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes" (1984). As I recall, it's a fairly faithful adaptation of the novel, although it's been decades since I've seen it, and even longer since I read the novel. It's a more solemn, sophisticated adaptation of the story compared to most Tarzan films, which are mostly just fun, silly, adventures, not serious films, and they tend to stray greatly from the source material.
