New Super Mario Bros. Wii is a 2009 side-scrolling platform video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii video game console. New Super Mario Bros. Wii follows Mario as he fights his way through Bowser's henchmen to rescue Princess Peach. Mario has access to several power-ups that help him complete his quest, including the Ice Flower, the Fire Flower, and the Starman, each giving him unique abilities. There are some new powerups to this game, such as the Propeller Hat which lets the player ascend very quickly.
The authors improve upon the previous publication ( tasvideos.org/4247M ) by 33.9 seconds. Many changes have been made to the route where the propeller mushroom has been swapped out with the ice flower and penguin suit, which provide overall faster horizontal speeds. Well yes but that's because the other one was the actual 100% to collect everything within this game. This one is just straight towards the end game as fast as they can...So there's that to contend with.

@@SuperFlashDriver I think they're referring to either Monster's or Qr1pt1k's "warps" TASes, which are both the same category as this TAS and more recent than Soig's 100% TAS. It is known that the 100% TAS is extremely obsolete, so we're starting a project which hopes to beat the 100% TAS by 20-30 minutes.

Huh, that would make sense considering the obsolete TAS 100% New Super Mario Bros. Wii is considered a favorite of many, including myself considering how good it is to get it done as soon as possible. If they're planning to make a new one of it, I do look forward to see how the new one goes compared to the obsolete one.

I have never seen anyone, Tas or human, skip the 8-airship green pipe delay. Always wondered since I was a kid playing that level if there was a way to do it and this proves there is. Incredible. Childhood made.

@@holz7168i assume they mean about the pipe entrance in 8-airship. You see, that thing has a green pipe and 3 other black pipes which shoot cannonballs. You need to enter the green pipe. The catch is, the thing rotates and you can only enter the green pipe when it is fully on top (as in fully vertically aligned). But normally by the time you reach the rotating thing the green pipe has already rotated once out of reach and you have to wait for it to fully rotate before being able to enter the pipe. I have no idea what the tas did, but it somehow skipped this and allowed to enter on its very first cycle rather than having to wait for at least the second one to enter and that is really cool tbh

from the video i watched covering this (LunaticJ: NEW Skips have changed Mario Bros Wii Speedruns Forever, i recommend checking it out) its not about gaining height, but rather using wall jumps, perfectly timed ice balls, and pixel perfect positioning to maximize your speed on the pixel before triggering the que for the "pipe to start rotating" it is stupid precise, insane visually, and very much tas only

This gave me nostalgia, not for the game, but rather for TAS videos in general, as i saw how Mario 3 progressed over time, this made me feel that again, even though this game is very restrictive, but we thought so of the older games as well, so thank you.

That 5-4 is INCREDIBLE. I watched the comparison video in the thread; penguin suit is actually _slower_ through the raft section, but the fast acceleration tech is so good that it makes up for it just getting to and from the pipes at the beginning and end. This is what TASing is all about!

There are 6 different patterns that the toad house can load with, so we manipulate RNG to get the best one.
