drum machines always sound great on almost every tascam cassette recorder. This sounds very cool. I have a 688, still works, a great machine. Nice work. got an old demo up from back in the day if anyone wants to check it out, a 688 recording. at Tascam 688 AJ Rivlin

The 8 track cassette work is interesting and why I stumbled upon your channel, but then I listened to some of your music and you really put it all out there. That’s the thing about KZfaq and social in general, is that you put all your creative out there to see who likes it. 8 track cassette is nostalgic - I’ll give you that - but it seems a little crazy and expensive.

Crazy? Yes, you have to be crazy. I rather enjoy working with tape machines. Not specifically for nostalgia sake, but because I like the interacting with something tactile and the workflow it inspires as well as the sound. Expensive? I bought that machine for $50, granted I spent an entire evening replacing the belts which was a pain in the ass. These machines can cost an offensive amount and do require maintenance, which is a repulsive combination. Thanks for watching and checking out my work! Cheers!

Sounds freaking gorgeous. I'm surprised at how stereo it sounds despite there only being 8 channels! Any tricks on how to get it to sound that wide?
@magicspiral33234 ай бұрын
Thanks! Don’t be afraid to record tracks in mono and spread them across the stereo field.

Amazing. I have the 644 midi studio and cant hear nothing through its monitor out. Could say if there are damaged? Thanks

Hello! I have a Tascam 688 and was wondering how you were able to control the faders and eq knobs while playing back a tape. When I play back my tape, it automatically goes into the Cue Monitor section, where I cant do any eqing or tactile fader stuff. Thanks!
@welcometocircuscamp65402 жыл бұрын
same here! did you find a fix?
@kaislater91142 жыл бұрын
@@welcometocircuscamp6540 Yes! Go to scene 12, in that state you can mute the cue monitor and hear the tracks and control them by the master faders.

I’m curious why you sold yours? You did good work with it. Was it that you could choose your mixer with the 238? What’s your workflow these days?
@magicspiral33236 ай бұрын
I got the Tascam M-1600 24 channel mixer for $100, which made the mixer section on the 688 redundant for me. The 688 was also a bit quirky for my workflow preferences, so I sold it and got myself a 238, which I love. I go over the workflow details in the 238 video. Simply put, I like the 238 more. It’s the coolest cassette deck I’ve ever used.
@ericvannielsen6 ай бұрын
@@magicspiral3323 that makes sense, and what a steal! That’s actually what I picked up my 688 for. Wouldn’t mind an M-1600 🤔, though. I hope your new setup is inspiring more music!
