I have an entry level DSLR that has no mic input, and a built in mono audio recorder. . I don’t have a proper mic for my laptop. I bought the Tascam DR-05x and really like it. I picked up a lav mic along with a 128gig card. For the camera, I bought a shock mount that comes with a cold shoe adapter, and another to attach the Tascam to the mount and the cold shoe. It is a Movo SMM5-B Universal Microphone and Portable Recorder Shock Mount from Amazon. So I’m hands free after I press record on the unit. I just bought all this, so I have to figure out how to sync the audio with video. Since I have this, I can place the Tascam on a Manfrotto Pixel tripod on a desk. Great unit, love the recoded audio from it. Far superior to what I had before, and I’m sure it beats some of the regular audio input mic’s for digital cameras.

I’m replacing my tascam dr40 with this. Dr40 quit reading cards, a problem and tascam said not worth fixing. 05 has mono, which dr40 didn’t have, many of the functions are similar, looking forward to receiving mine. Nice demo tutorial.

Please tell me - How to record audio in mode "TREBLE+" ? I want record song-covers with high frequencies, but the equalizer can only be set to output. At the beginning of the video, the guitar sounds very beautiful, I try to achieve the same sound.

Mine is muted for some reason and I can’t unmute it, I have tried going to the IO settings and turning the speaker on and off- it still shows the muted speaker icon top right- any suggestions?

any idea how to get decent quality into audacity? The interface works but the recording quality is terrible. anyone know the settings? thanks

the none "X" DR-05 model could also be used as a two in and two out I/F using the PC's 3.5 jack aux-in.. so what's difference with the "X"..!?

I brought a Tascam DR-05X and spent hours trying to download files onto my PC. In frustration I decided to buy a new memory card the one I was using was from an old phone. That fixed all the problems I was using an old corrupted card. Before you waste hours trying to figure out what is wrong spend a few dollars buy a new card.

In the BROWSE menu, I don't see how to create folders except within the MUSIC folder. Is there no way to do this? When I do it on the computer, in "SD card reader mode" they don't show up on the unit. Also, how do you determine which folder your recordings go into?

Very nice playing and recording. Don't mind me asking. What the build quality is like please. Thank you. I've got a Dr-60d. But eats batteries like in 10 minutes so I need a better 1. Absolutely nothing wrong with it it's just nuts so quickly. And if you use a psu plugged into the wall and get a hum. And I have a good cable tester. Absolutely crazy how many cables I have don't pass the test stop even the one with ferrite beads. I mean they're safe to use though just not shielded properly. So you can get noise sometimes.

Please tell me if you have experienced a radio interference problem with the Tascam DR-05? For example if you record close to a router or amplificators. I've seen a lot of people complaining about that in KZfaq. I like the audio quality and rich low freq that the Tascam has, but with that problem being so common, idk...

Why do I get a lot of digital noise in my recordings? Sound is reminiscent of a dial up modem after connecting to it...

It would have been nice to know exactly how long a set of batteries last. Also, there was no comment about the build quality. I experience with the existing Tascam recorders is they are plastic and are not very robust.

With this unit, what's the best way to record 2 people at the same time? It looks like you would have to lean in very close to the on board mics to get a decent voice recording and in these current times it's not a great thing for 2 people to be doing. Is there an external mic solution to this where we can be further apart? Thanks :)

Be aware that these do NOT come with an sd card , and the ones they recommend are very expensive … adding over 50% of the price to the unit …. They don’t tell you this in the advertising … grrrr!!!
