Heads up, that RCA-to-3.5mm adapter is for the SPDIF input. There's no conversion involved, it's just a digital coaxial input. The reason they use an adapter is so they could use a smaller connector on the recorder.

Hi, I've just purchased one of these for Christmas, beautiful piece of equipment with good specs. One negative I have noticed is the plastic parts of the body have bubbles throughout, almost seems to be a defect in the manufacturing of the plastics. If held under light it becomes very apparent, this can't be good, I'll be contacting Tascam to get their opinion, Have you noticed the same? Any help appreciated.

The video is a little dark and should have been a bit brighter. Very nice recorder. I have a DR-100 MKII and found it good, but switched to a Tascam DR-701D for higher audio quality and lower noise floor and liked the design better. Comparing this to the MKII, this looks much better and the specs seem better. I don't see why they got rid of the numbers on the gain wheel though, it to me is far better to see how high or low on the gain you are on by looking at the numbers on the wheel. I did find that AA batteries on the DR-100 MKII didn't last long, no matter what type of AA batteries I used, it would drain them quite fast. I quite like the bigger screen on this one and glad they got rid of the orange light the DR-100 MKII had, for a blue one which looks better to me. Also glad they got rid of the switches on the back of the recorder, which I found were in an awkward place as if you had the recorder on a tripod or screwed onto something, and wanted to change the gain setting, phantom power or limiter etc... you had to unscrew it and move the switches and then screw it back on. I did notice the MKII version picked up handling noise easily and rattling noises from wind on recordings, even with an external XLR mic.

Cool recorder, seems like it is very user friendly indeed. The only negative I can see is the internal battery, it looks like you cannot change it out if it goes bad. Looking forward to seeing it in action. Great video Dave.

rRe the on board mikes I think you will find that the two small mikes are the omni's and the larger ones are the uni's. Been advised that there is an issue with low volume from headphone output. Is there some in built menu setting to adjust this?

It surprised me badly when you didn't know how the rca to minijack adapter was for. It doesn't convert anything, it simply allows digital coaxial SPdif connection between digital gear, I guess, from DR-100 to any digital storage through that kind of format. The use of a minijack in a tiny and cramped item saves valuable space, that's all.

Why oh why didn’t they allow to record 4 channels at the same time?...

Can't understand why in the world they would make this with an internal (supposedly) non-removable battery. Doesn't that mean that when the battery has lost its capacity, you have to return the recorder to Tascam????
