I still am shocked to this day that when great britian was the most powerful army on earth they ended up surrendering to the continental army in 1783.

The colonies were difficult to defend in the first place. The distance made it logistically impossible to maintain a presence there. It would take weeks to resupply and reinforce, plus by the time any reinforce had come, it was too late, and the intervention of the French sealed Cornwallis's fate at York Town

Same applied to the Boers in the 1st Boer war and Singapore in the 2nd WW, both logistic nightmares.

It’s simple, like the US in Vietnam. A small country can defeat a large one if they are on their home turf, have local civilian support and can hang on long enough to make citizens of the other country doubt the wisdom of fighting.

The vast distance between the fighting and the home country made any massive campaigns almost impossible to win for issues of communication, resupply, or strategic directive...whereas the enemy didn't have vast resupply lines, and could concentrate their forces where they needed them most without much of a delay in having those forces arrive. Home turf advantages that were only exasperated by the times they were living. There is a church I once passed in Mexico that was built in the wrong town... By the time the hand written letter was finished & made it's way back to Spain and hand delivered to the king, and then the king replying in a letter of his own stating that the church was to be built in a different town...by the time those building the church received their reply, it had already been built.

I would love to join your ranks, bros. I spent my childhood in the woods, camping, fishing, and hunting, but I don't exactly know who we are supposed to be defending against at this point. Here in North Manchester, I am surrounded by what I assume are Pakistanis or other Middle Easterners; they do not speak English amongst themselves, and they do not let me in on their conversations. Who exactly are we native British supposed to be defending against at this point?

North Manchester is a dump. It's unfortunate you have to deal with the bad side of Pakistanis, Down south we get along pretty well and a couple are enlisting pretty soon with me

@@waynesteffen3262 I'm not talking about private conversations. I'm talking about general chit-chat from day to day. I work among them, and as a native Briton, I am a minority in the place in which I work. They do not speak English among themselves. And they certainly do not make me feel welcome among them. I do not see why it is imperative for me to integrate into their culture, given that this is England, the land of my ancestors. I am not against them, but they will not integrate. I will not defend those who make me feel unwelcome in my own country.
