I'm glad you liked it! I originally made it a lot longer but had to be brutal to cut it down to this length! We trained hard in the lead up, so we were definitely physically prepared. The psychological challenges, though with the weather, really were the hardest part, I think. 😫

I was MUDDY. and that water was COLD AS. I had to get back in as the mud was so deep in my skin 😅😅😅😅

I think it was made even harder that we had planned to do the whole thing and had 12 days+ of supplies on back. Despite deliberately bulking for weeks prior we lost 5-7kg each and found it hard at the end from a calorie perspective to keep on top of exposure. We actually carried our left over goon back to the car! When we finished I was at 55kg and Carl at 64kg...carrying 25kg on backs to start. If I could do it again I would just take a tonne of chocolate and double the 1kg of cheese to try and load the calories in. And a thermos to stash hot water for exposure or a quick soup.

Lol we had the whole western arthurs to our selves! Haha

Plenty of times, I wondered to myself, why I find this type of thing so appealing. Yet I've already booked another long tassie trip again for November this year!

There was nails on all the platforms at high moor and haven lake but not that platform at oberon.

I'd be really cautious with a large group. I'd be keeping my goal posts short and shaking down everyone's gear well before hand

I have been using this cloudup2 10d (get the older version, it weighs 930g) for about 3 years...hundreds of nights in the bush. It held up to WAT, as well as multiple serious storms in kozi and 100kmph+ winds. I always carry tenacious tape patches but to date I haven't had to repair it. It's free standing and so I use it to camp on rocks and so forth. I must say having that flexibility for WAT is excellent in case you get stuck between camps. They have no customer service though so buy it on Amazon just in case you have any issues.

Hi! I have been dragging my feet on the gear video, apologies! We used everything we took, except for about 4 days of food (we planned to do 12 days and finish the extended traverse but as you saw, it wasn't really worthwhile/possible.) I was especially happy to have my gear repair patches, sewing kit, rainpants/jacket, poles, wool head sox, icebreaker wool mountaineering socks, Gaiters, Closed Cell Foam mat. I was glad that almost all our clothing was merino wool. We both were very grateful to have full brim hats for rain protection/spf also. I wish I took more ready to eat food and a thermos as boiling water is challenging/impossible in 100kmph winds and rain. A thermos would have been fantastic to have full for times when we were really feeling the exposure. I did not take a rope (just a 100m sling) and would not have used a rope at all. We of course had a full first aid kit and PLB, battery packs, maps and compasses. Didn't use the map and compass much but of course it's wise to have.

I would also say, take some fun stuff to help keep morale high. We took cheese, chocolate, and red wine and those little luxuries made us feel alot better when frustrations were high at camp. I also wish we had camp shoes, even a pair to share, for going to the loo at camp. Wet frozen leech boots are hard to handle every time you need to pee when it's raining and miserable. A light camp shoe like a teva would have been tops.
