I saw him in Vancouver in early 70s. He opened for Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple . I knew his song Bullfrog Blues. I hollered for it several times but he didn't play it till the last song after two ovations. He said "this is for the guy up there and pointed to me." Made my night when he played a blistering version and got a magnificent send off from the crowd. RIP Mr Gallagher.

Tom I saw him too but in 87' but to see him with Fleetwood Mac and Deep Purple holy shit!!! He was such a rare guitarist who didn't want to sell out and wanted to keep it real!! He's sorely missed To think Jimi Hendrix was on this gig maybe not this nite but he passed away a week later!!! Wonder what he thought of Rory?

He was the meanest cleanest blues rock player I've ever heard. Great singer songwriter. Never hit a bum note, improvised at will, responded to the audience energy, a superb showman, magician, & a very kind gentle egoless human being, proud Christian & real Irishman. RIP Rory Gallagher - may the road rise up to meet you.

All appreciation and respect to Rory, but REAL bluesman he was not. That's the likes of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Son House etc. Rory was a friend of and appreciated the blues. Bluesman, no. Guitar shredders are not bluesmen. Blues is a lot deeper than just the guitar. You need to learn your blues a bit better.

I picked up a bunch of the recent Gallagher deluxe album reissues, 2 CDs each, one of them one of the guys in his later band, I think Gerry, said he also had a Fender Champ or something that he used in the studio sometimes, mainly on the first Rory album, and he couldn't believe the sound Rory got out of even this little Fender amp! But of course the Vox AC30 with TB was his main rig for years.

So underrated it hurts. A lot of people claim they have never heard of him, which I find astonishing. Many guitar greats, Hendrix, Blackmore, May, Page, Clapton all hold him in such high esteem. Blackmore called him the most natural guitarist he'd ever seen and when asked about what it felt like to be the world's greatest guitarist, Hendrix said 'I don't know, you had better ask Rory Gallagher'...Praise indeed. Been listening to Rory since the late 1970's and was privileged to see him live in concert, Copenhagen in 1987. Precious talent.

What a great video...I first heard him in 1974, I was only 8 back then...He was HUGE in France, he'd often come to Paris and other locations sometimes twice the same year and his shows lasted 3 hours plus...Those were the days... :) :) :)

Taste was a reel super group. I've never seen them playing live. But I was lucky when my cousins got me a ticket for the only Rory Gallagher's concert, mid seventies, in Oporto, Portugal. What a fine guitar player, both acoustic and electric.

Rory Gallagher was the first rock concert I ever attended. It was at Belfast's Ulster Hall back in 1974 or 75. The fans went nuts over him. This is the first time I have seen this video clip but I remember it was on the Taste album called, "On the Boards". Every track was good on that one!

Brian May stated that Rory Gallagher is the person who turned him onto and the reason why he's played Vox AC30 combo amps throughout Brian's legendary career. We can almost thank Rory for helping Brian find his iconic tone and being such an influence on Brian as a guitarist, who in turn influenced thousands of guitarists over the years himself. I feel like Rory doesn't get the recognition he deserves, and I only discovered him and became a fan of him through Brian May, constantly talking about Rory over the years.❤🎸🇮🇪🍀

Rory was best heard in small town halls or beat club environments. Then his soulfulness came out of his guitar so emotionally that you felt his sufferings.....wiped anyone off the floor with his blues guitar. Clapton, Hendrix, Townshend , Page couldn't hold a candle to him. His fabled Stratocaster was worn down to the bare wood. Thanks for posting this gem.

@@ZEP0034 Rory was very self critical, and he believed most of his contemporaries were superior to him. I love Zeppelin, and I would place most of their LPs in my all-time top 20, but if I listen to/watch Rory these days, I have to say that, live, he was superior to Page. Page has had his moments but he has always been very inconsistent, and you won't find many official live Zeppelin gigs that weren't sweetened in the studio. There are many unofficial recordings of Page live, which, I'm saddened to say, are pretty poor. At the ARMS concerts he was really quite appalling. I'm just a bit too young to have seen Zep live, but I did see Page with The Firm at The Hammersmith Odeon (Apollo now, I think). He was fine, but apart from Dazed and Confused, there was nothing to compare his playing with e.g., The Song Remains The Same concerts or The Albert Hall in 1970. I am yet to find a poor live example of Rory, but, sadly, I have never seen a post-Zeppelin Page do anything very impressive. When he's guested with bands over the years you'd expect him to really go for it, but most of the time he plays the riff, a bit of rhythm, and looks a bit lost. If you know of any good post-Zepp performances please share.

@@daevpaeldruid8200 he was nowhere near superior to Page. Nobody had the depth of Led Zeppelin. Rory has good songs but Led Zeppelin had 8 number 1 albums. Every album they did was better than anyone else. Success is what counts and Anyone into Rock would know Zep ruled the 70s. I'm not trying to compare them because they're both excellent but the best was Zeppelin fact. Type in best guitarists and Page is top 3 in every public poll. He and most stars had them bit at his best Page was the best alive.

@@ZEP0034 I don't think record sales are a mark of success in music. Just look at the shite that has sold millions, particularly this century. Whether or not you prefer one thing to another is a matter of 'taste', but I can tell you for a fact that when it came to playing live, consistently, Rory was technically a far better performer. I agree that Page at his best was one of the very best, not forgetting that when Zepp had become very popular, Hendrix was still alive, Peter Green still had his marbles, just about, and many excellent players had evolved from blues-rock and psychedelia into rock, prog-rock, jazz-fusion, etc. (Jeff Beck, David Gilmour and Steve Howe being prime examples, all of whom have also been consistently superb playing live, to this day.). As a studio musician/producer Page is second to none, but he has not consistently translated that into playing live. He doesn't travel well, and If he didn't suffer so much with fatigue, and hadn't been such a big drug user, it may have been a different story.

My first concert in Boston back in the seventies. He warmed up for Dave Mason. Never heard of him before. Plaid shirt, drums, bass, ripped the place up, I'll never forget it. Dave Mason had a nice light show. Afterwards, I bought as many of Rory's records as I could find. Always a fan to this day.
