I found tomato, green beans, sweet peppers and dill seeds wrapped in news paper in a shed in my dad's shed. Dates were from the 60's. They all sprouted.

Isn’t it just amazing. Gardening fascinates me. I’m learning with experience that seeds really want to grow and we don’t need to think so hard about it. I’m now falling in love with letting plants go to seed and learning how to save them all.

Some of my favorites this year were Chocolate Stripe, Vintage Wine, Marianna’s Peace, and Granny Cantrel. (I have seeds.). The first two are now some of my top favorites with a wine like sweet flavor and the last two just a great tomato flavor. Also Cherokee Purple and Brandywine.

The only one I haven’t grown from your list is Chocolate Stripes. Well I guess I should say I tried but it definitely was not the right tomato. I definitely need to trade again for that one. 😁

I love antho tomatoes. I think it is like Cilantro. Some taste soap, some love it. I love it.

Yes. I think you’re correct. Ben seems to be ok with them. But there have been some that are just terrible to me. They are absolutely stunning to grow though.

🤣🤣he always wants to dress like me. I swear I’ll be dressed for hours and then he gets dressed and cones downstairs and says. “Why are you always dressing like me” and I say. Wait a minute buddy you’ve matched me. 🤣. We don’t even have to try anymore

Do Taiga by Karen Oliver please. That could be another theme for you. Videos of specific breeders tomatoes like wild boar , Karen Oliver tom wagner etc.

Oh yes that would be fun. I think I might have Taiga seeds in my collection. I’ll have to look. But I’m definitely going to be doing some themes next year. I think I’ve got an Alice and Wonderland one gathered so far. 😁

Yes definitely not very tasty raw but I froze a bunch and will just cook into sauces and soups.

Oh! 😂 We got an actual “Ew!” And a “Nope” from that 2nd one 😂 I love the sniff tests. That is correct on the heirloom & open pollinated definitions 👌 Dean’s Chocolate Salty Balls 😏

Yes some of those Antho tomatoes are just nasty to me. But they are pretty. Ben doesn’t mind them though. By the way I’ve been loving your #one day thing a day videos. I’ve been trying that out myself.

With regards to the whole definition of heirloom and the fifty years mark... Seems arbitrarily idiotic. If I create a new tomato, cultivate for a few years to make it stable then put it in a freezer for 45 years. Then someone grows it... Then it's an heirloom? Why... Because it's been over fifty years? Seems too simplistic. An heirloom for me is any tomato that is unique, stable, and preferably carries a story or otherwise that was grown by the same family or region. I'm not feeling overly petty about an X amount of years. Inheritance seems more important to me.
