It's really fascinating to watch a packed theater of people see James groan in disgust at tasting Bosco, and then collectively decide that they need to experience that sensation for themselves. Especially because some part of me is going, "Yeah, I'd probably need to see for myself too."

I mean there’s two kinds of regrets. There are things you regret doing for the immediate future, while the taste is in your mouth, or maybe the next morning. And there’s things you might regret NOT doing weeks or months later. If you’re in a theatre with James Hoffman and there’s something foul to taste, what are you going to regret more? A bad sip, or walking out without trying it?

I think it is supposed to be a bean, for two reasons... The soft fold, like a decorative table service napkin, is definitely not standard pocket square territory. And the reddish brown color has to be on purpose as it hideously clashes with his outfit. 😆

I was there in the audience (not tasting… unfortunately?) and it was a _delightful_ atmosphere. So, I want to praise everyone involved: my fellow audience members for being lovely and lively; the crew for being professional and friendly; the team at Square Mile for the treats we took home; James for being a gracious, vivacious, humorous host; and - last but not least - his hair: not just cool, but the comic star of the night. James, following my question: if I had £2 million to give for a world travel show, you’d get it.

This was wonderful, and I'm not sure if you're brave, have a sense of adventure, or just plain silly. Thank you. Some addition information, my Granddad worked for Dan-Air. A long gone British airline. In the 70s he would return with strange drinks and food from all over the world. I clearly recall Bosca coming back from some Asian trip he did in the late 70s. Apparently, it was trendy in what country he was working in at that point. He adored the stuff, and twelve-year-old me tried some. I recall a burning, sweet, acid, and then a huge headache.

@@Frostbiker I was the person that James asked “Do you really think this was better than the Bosca?” So the Bosca was the worst for me. The wine plus coffee almost killed me. The Tia Maria was indeed the best one (not counting the modern Tia Maria) but they were all quite bad to be honest. A very interesting experience though. The liqueurs themselves were a nice trip to the past and James and his team hosted an amazing event, I was not exaggerating in the original comment.

I have never liked coffee liqueurs but someone introduced me to an interesting cocktail they called 'Terrys Chocolate Orange' because 1 part Tia Maria with 3 parts Orange Juice does strangely taste like Terrys Chocolate Orange. I have just checked online and there are several 'official' cocktails that add Cointreau or Triple Sec to the orange juice but that is probably just to lift it from the 'Mixer' category to the 'Cocktail' category as it does not really need them. Another interesting fact that I have yet to try out despite having both in the house a couple of times is that apparently, floating a layer of Baileys on top of Tia Maria causes donuts to drop into the Tia Maria. There is some strange interaction that causes donuts instead of blobs or going straight to curdled.

what a FANTASTIC piece of work, James! Wow, such high production value and I loved the interaction with the crowd. Would love to see more of these format videos! (Also, is your pocket square meant to look like a coffee bean?)

Dude i would totally be down to see more videos in this sort of style! It gives a very vintage and classy feel to something i think we tend to get too sceintific about these days! Extremely entertaining and well done!

Really interesting video! Some good laughs too. I never would've considered a live coffee testing event as something I would go to. But now I totally would

How utterly brilliant and fascinating. I can’t imagine a more entertaining and enjoyable experience. I’ve never been so impressed and delighted with the premise of a public gathering. I’m genuinely jealous of the people there. I’m hoping in future there will be other events 😂. Wonderful ❤😍 just wonderful.
