Hi folks, kicking off our North Karnataka series with this short and spicy episode that we filmed impromptu enroute to Hubli. Stopping at Davanagere, a city popularly known as Benne Nagari (the land of butter) to taste an iconic benne dosae, we were told that a visit here would be considered incomplete without tasting the crowd-pleasing evening snack of mirchi mandakki. Especially the one dished out at Subbanna Mirchi Masala, a tiny shop that has stood the test of time for over seven decades now. I catch up with the locals, and also the friendly owners, brothers, Subbanna and Srikanth, whose grandfather began the Subbanna mirchi mandakki tradition! My name is Srinivasa Rao Cherukuri (Alumni BIET, Davangere 1985 Mechanical branch) and thanks for this video. I recollected many memories of eating local Davangere food in various places including those small Tea shops/food places around BIET campus hostels and old hostel. Even today I admire the tasty food of Ashwamedha and Chetana (If I remember correctly). Kannada people are very friendly and I always remember my Davangere days. In fact those memories are always in my thoughts

Memories 😍 my dad used to always remember this Mandakki and mirchi bajji during his stay in Davangere, one of his most favorites. We don't get this much in Bangalore though. My favorite place in Davangere . I am tasting this mandaki since when I am in 4th standard. It’s has been 21 years still same taste 👅. My regular visiting place for evening snacks when I am in India.. don’t miss this delicious taste

For every 50 kms as Kannada changes mandakki oggarane also changes .. it is also called as churumuri susla in north Karnataka Spcl :Raichur ,Kalburgi for mirchi bajji susla

Vaggarne Mandakki is also called as Soosla in some parts of North Karnataka (Vijayapura, Bagalkot). Mandakki is called as Churmuri. So it becomes Churmuri Soosla. In our home we add tomato as well which adds its own tanginess to it making it even more interesting. Mirchi bhajji is like icing on the cake, it just completes Vaggarne Mandakki (Soosla). Thanks for showcasing this staple food of North Karnataka. I have been to this place. Must visit.

I used to visit frequently to Subbanna Mirchi Madakki when we lived in Davanagere for almost 10 years. Also try Paradise Mirchi and also Sagar Benne Dose when you visit next time. Fond memories 😋😋

Just virtually had the Mirchi mandakki along with you sir. in my childhood i used to travel to harihara for my grand parents place. we used to eat kara mandakki, bajji and bene dose. missing those days.. That's a pleasant surprise u were in namma ooru Davanagere👍👏👏 Subbanna's mirchi-mandakki shop has been quite an "Adda" for many of us Davanagereans..one of the most popular venues in namma Davanagere for mandakki-mirchi. Subbanna & his brother are quite popular faces in Davanagere. Earlier they used to prepare "masala-mirchi"..the same whole green chilly, with all it's seeds removed & some secret home-made magic masala stuffed inside the so emptied green chillies & then dipped in the kadle hittu batter & then deep fried....aahahaha...those used to be such amazing divinities...but from past many years they have stopped preparing those masala-mirchis & now they only prepare the regular mirchis..but nevertheless tasty as always.. Hope u wil enjoy few more addas of namma Davanagere...if u continue ur stay.. ತುಂಬಾ ಖುಷಿ ಆಯ್ತು ಕೃಪಾಲ್ ಅಣ್ಣಾ ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನ ನಮ್ಮ ದಾವಣಗೆರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡಿ🙏💝
