Thank you for the video. This will help to help people inform themselves on risks and considerations. It helps to be informed. You are doing a great job. Humans become stressed if they don’t know something and the exact thing that will happen and when will be stressful as nobody can give them an exact answer. It is however useful to be aware of the Earth and it’s changes and be as informed about what one can do to prepare. It is perfectly normal to be depressed confused angry scared all of the emotions. Please don’t take any comments to heart it will just be humans dealing with life. Thank you again 💐

Comforting to know that Lake Taupo isn't likely to go boom any time soon, although living the other side of the Tasman does reduce the impact-risk somewhat!

I love the ending about finding out more to getready and be prepared. Lets face it, unlike the other volcanos in NZ lake Tuapo is a super volcano, there is nothing to get ready for accept leaving the country if it erupted as it would most likely destroy most of the north island through eruptions, ejection and ash fall out.

@@stevie-ray2020 low probability sure, but they can't ever say that it wouldn't for example blow up next week. Combined with the Alpine fault, Mt Taranaki and the Hikirangi fault, all with a high probability of going within the next 50 years and in fact maybe a lot sooner as each one on its own has a fairly good chance of going within the next 50 years NZ has some serious geological time bomb problems building.

@@tronwars7130 Agree, as from the geological evidence the Alpine Fault is well overdue for a 7-8 magnitude quake!

@@thebhoy8561 Those figures don't match with GNS research results, & what's stated on Wikipedia! "Prediction of next earthquake: In 2012, GNS Science researchers published an 8000-year timeline of 24 major earthquakes on the (southern end of the) fault from sediments at Hokuri Creek, near Lake McKerrow in north Fiordland. In earthquake terms, the 850 kilometres (530 mi) long fault is remarkably consistent, rupturing on average every 330 years, at intervals ranging from 140 years to 510 years. In 2017, GNS researchers revised the figures after they combined updated Hokuri site records with a thousand-year record from another site, 20 km away at John O'Groats River, to produce a record of 27 major earthquake events during the 8000-year period. This gave a mean recurrence rate of 291 years, plus or minus 23 years, versus the previously estimated rate of 329 years, plus or minus 26 years. In the new study, the interval between earthquakes ranged from 160 to 350 years, and the probability of an earthquake occurring in the 50 years following 2017 was estimated at 29 percent." Good video. Are you taking into consideration the whole earths current seismic unrest? Oh the current nz plate movements? Also Is it possible the solar flare x has affected Taupo? It seems to have caused many volcanoes to become more active in the past month.

I came here to say this. Plate tectonics are more active right now setting off volcanoes around the world, but no one seems to be taking that into consideration regarding Taupo. It's very relevant imo. Not just a regular cycle this time.

Thank you for the update, just out of interest, do the scientists & advisors take into consideration, the overall global uptick in volcanic activity when forecasting further unrest? It would be silly to assume our situation is only affecting lil ol'e us.

I don’t know for sure, but I don’t think so. While there maybe periods of elevated tectonic activity on a regional scale, for example the Taupo volcanic zone, this doesn’t occur on a global scale. The earth is just so big and complicated that what’s occurring on the Calabrian arc for example has no perceptible bearing on what is happening in nz. Note, in terms of regional related tectonic activity, earthquakes provide clearer examples e.g. the Otago fault system appears to only have a few major faults active at once and activity switches back and forth between the active and (formerly) inactive major faults. Another example could be that New Zealand as a whole has been in a period of relatively low seismic activity for the last 30 years which may have ended with the Christchurch and kaikoura earthquakes representing a shift in overall nz strain and (possibly) stress fields.

The scientists also need to take into account just how much the solar changes affect Earth. Earths magnetic field is weakened and the pole movements significant enough for airport runways to be realigned…….

@@michaelofman2840 You are aware that earthquakes occur in waves, like in a pool. same mag, same dist apart. Between two deep eq's you can expect a shallower one at a mag greater. The energy movements can be mapped, they link & are regularly forecast. The sun plays a major part in all of this.
