Today I test fire my Taurus 605 that was sent in to Taurus for a second time to resolve a problem that led to function issues with the cylinder of the revolver not rotating while firing in double action.

The Taurus mechanism doesn't have enough grunt to overcome the imbalance?I know have Taurus Model 82 from the early 1990s. At some point, with an extremely low round count, the firing pin stopped retracting, which means the cylinder wouldn't rotate. I can point the gun upward and smack it to make the firing pin drop back into place. Taurus CS sent me a shipping label, but life got complicated and I never sent it in.

I think the hand is not long enough or making sufficient contact with the cylinder. But I'm not an expert. Was just wishing Taurus would get it fixed.

I had that issue with a brand new Ruger Super BlackHawk Hunter. Cocking the hammer was not smooth or always possible, and it turned out the innards were full of metal shavings from the factory. Maybe you have shavings in the gears?

Thanks for the heads up Luke! I would have hoped the factory would have cleaned it out when I returned it, but I will have to take a look myself.

Ok…. I don’t know if your looking for problems or not. But who loads 2 rounds? Have you tried it with all 5 loaded?
@texmexshoots7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching Steve. It works fine with all five rounds loaded. It's only when there are only two rounds next to each other that the cylinder has an issue with its balance. Even then the problem usually only arises when using heavier loads like 158 grain. The problem first arose when I was taking some slow motion footage and only loading two rounds to shoot off quickly. At the time I was comparing it to the Taurus Ultra-lite and the S&W Airweight. The video should be on my channel somewhere. The 605 was the only one that had that specific problem during filming.

Thanks! Still having some issues but have gotten some advice from other posters on a potential fix.
@frumpypantz16356 ай бұрын
Had the same issue on my 856. For what fixed mine, read on... I saw that others were having repeated issues even after warranty "repairs", so I decided to try and fix it myself. It was ALWAYS happening with bullets over 125gr, and whenever I would put 2 rounds in - just like you show here - and then pull double action fairly slowly. The cylinder stop would release the cylinder before the hand would engage the cylinder star, so the cylinder would rotate clockwise (the wrong way) ever-so-slightly, than the hand could not engage at all. The cylinder would not rotate, and not fire. Very repeatable, just like you're showing here (you'd think this would be on a checklist at Taurus - people do load and fire less than a full cylinder of ammo ya know). It would work with a full cylinder, it would work when firing only 2 rounds when pulling the double-action trigger quickly. Just stating what worked for me - this should likely be done by a trained professional. Discuss this with someone comfortable in doing such work, and validate it for yourself...up to you. But, I sanded/filed down part of the trigger where it engages the cylinder stop so that it would not begin moving the stop out of the way as soon as the trigger moved. This created a delay from when pulling the trigger before it would release the cylinder...this brought the stop moving out of the way and the hand engaging events closer together in time. It took more sanding (400/600 grit) than I thought, but this fixed it. It has been 100% since. Before this repair, i could put pressure on the trigger, and the cylinder stop would move completely out of the way before the hammer or hand got involved at all, and the cylinder would free-wheel. That would be interesting to see if yours does that. Good luck with it. I'd hate to think that this 605 may be relegated to the junk pile or only snake duty. Hopefully you can get it timed better and working properly. I can't figure out why Taurus can't replicate this problem when it's so easily demonstrated in the video, but they seem to be really struggling in this arena currently.
@texmexshoots6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the post Frumpy! You very clearly set out the issue with the cylinder stop and hand. I'm not sure if Taurus doesn't understand the problem or just doesn't care. After two trips back, they never got mine right. I'm glad you were able to get yours fixed. I'm not confident enough in my gunsmithing skills to try it, but like you stated, a good smith who understand the problem can probably get it right. Thanks again!

@@davidfischer7895 Thank you for watching David. You are correct in that this 605 is about a decade old. I have been told that the issue has been resolved on newer models by other posters in my videos, and I have shared that information myself. However to call my video a "hit piece" seems misplaced. I shared my experience over three videos of my issue with the revolver. I had been asked by my subscribers to keep them informed of my progress and that is what I did. After shipping it back to Taurus twice, the issue was not resolved. I gave them detailed information about the problem I was having with the revolver. On the second trip I even forwarded them my previous video at their request. Sadly the revolver was not fixed. It is what it is.

@texmexshoots I just think it's a little odd to crawl out of the woodwork with a ten year old gun trying to get a ten year old problem fixed and watching the videos makes it seem like it's a current problem that's why I called it a hit piece. But people do just buy guns and toss them in the safe and never shoot them. My dad has a twenty year old Ruger that he's "gonna send in to get fixed one day" so that does happen I suppose.
@texmexshoots4 ай бұрын
@@davidfischer7895 Fair enough. I would have never known about the problem if I hadn't tried to make the first video where I was comparing some snub nose revolvers. The reason I only loaded two rounds was due to taking some slow motion footage. My plan was to shoot off two rounds quickly and was able to do so with a S&W 642 airweight and a Taurus 85 ultra-lite. That is when the 605 first failed. I'm happy to hear that Taurus has fixed this issue with newer 605's, However, I'm still of the opinion that they should have been able to fix mine.
