Transfer bar doesn’t really “block” the hammer from contacting the firing pin , it makes it possible for the hammer to contact the firing pin. I’m not trying to be a jerk but the way you worded it might be a bit misleading to a novice about how the revolver functions. Anyway thanks for the video.. will look at more of your content.
@realpracticaltactical

Completely right. Transfer bar bridges the gap between the hammer and firing pin. That's what happens when you do a video without a script. Pinned for clarification. Thanks for watching!

Nope it is a bar that sits between the hammer and firing pin or between the pin and bullet You have to pull the trigger to drop the bar down out of the way either way it keeps it from going bang if you drop it so yes it is a transfer bar safety
@guaporeturns9472
@guaporeturns9472 Жыл бұрын
@@vladboy1 wrong .. read my comment again. You have it completely backwards. I’ve worked on plenty of revolvers with them. It "transfers” the impact from the hammer to the firing pin. It rises up into said position when the trigger is pulled. If hammer drops without the trigger being pulled it won’t strike the firing pin because the transfer bar is not there to transfer the energy from the hammer to the firing pin.
@fbweaver63
@fbweaver63 Жыл бұрын
@@vladboy1 the transfer bar is raised as the hammer goes back so it can transfer the strike from the hammer to the firing pin. that is why it is called a transfer bar. the hammer does not touch the pin and there is nothing between the pin and bullet except air.

That 856 model has a pin that goes through the front sight. Taurus sells a replacement front sight for it that has an orange dot with a tritium insert. That front sight glows in the dark and is also more readily visible during daylight hours. Cheap too.

I’ve been carrying the Taurus 856 for 200+ days since I purchased mine the model I carry is a concealed hammer with stainless finish . I’ve fed it most plus P ammunition and have carried it OWB in a leather holster and here’s my 2 cents it’s a great snub nose especially if you want a six shot over the more common 5 shot models made by S&W however there’s two caveats I have about this revolver After playing around a bit with different size speed loaders the HKS 10 is the perfect fit for the 856 also I recommend painting your front sight with nail polish or getting a replacement fiber optic sight for the front You may want to replace the grips , I found that options are out there but limited I decided to use Pachmayr model 85 rose wood grips with checkering to replace my rubber grips after they started to “ shed” around the finger groove and thumb ledge

My 2" shoots first sized groups at 25 yards. It's not a smooth pull like a Smith but there's a very nice and crisp wall so you can confidently stage the trigger. Because of this, I'm seeing no appreciable difference in accuracy between single and double action. It's a very nice wall and break either way. Paid $130 but it's a perfect gun. Couldn't offer me 10k for it. My 3" arrived out of time and shooting miles low. Cylinder, hammer, and trigger all locked up and wouldn't move with live ammo left in the gun. Total nightmare and headache just like my 627. My UL has way too much recoil. Might be accurate, maybe not but I'll never know. I only use it for shot shells. Flips a snake inside out so while it only serves a single purpose, it does so exceptionally well so I'm very happy with it for what it is.

@@realpracticaltactical This is very true; it's definitely a handgun that you have to practice with... I feel like I'm starting to slowly get better with it (I've only fired 160 rounds through it so far); it's starting to feel like a cap gun (not necessarily a bad thing) - and my accuracy seems to be gradually increasing. This is my favorite version of the LCR: the snub nose .38 Special LCRx... They make a .357 version as well - but I don't think it maximizes that caliber, because the barrel is so short (a lot of recoil and muzzle flash).

Try gently holding the cylinder and pulling the trigger. You may find, as I did, that introducing any resistance to rotation causes the cylinder to rotate only partially before the pawl disengages. The gun is essentially jammed until resistance to rotation is removed. My Smith and Charter Arms revolvers do not have this problem. As I consider a snub nosed revolver to be a close quarters gun I asked myself "What if an attacker gets his hand on this?" Sold it.

what guapo said with a little correction. the hammer rests on the frame and can't reach the firing pin. when the trigger is pulled all the way back, the transfer bar is raised all the way up where the hammer can strike it, causing the bar to hit the firing pin, thus transferring the energy from the trigger to the pin. the hammer never contacts the firing pin to be a little more precise for the sake of said novice.

The Taurus 605 cost about $390, it has excellent weight for the.38 round. It doesn't flip excessively up after shooting,so follow up shot's are quickly on target. Very accurate also.

Taurus's quality control is sooooo spotty that I finally swore them off for good...find a used S&W or Ruger at a pawnshop that has layaway.. the extra money spent will be more than worth it in the long run..

I agree. I got an 856 concealed hammer 2 inch stainless that makes a rattling noise inside the frame feels like something is loose. The fit and feel is not of Smith Wesson or Ruger. You get what you pay for. It looks good and inexpensive that’s the reason I bought it.

Just bought one 2 weeks ago. IS it .38 special +p? The owners manual is kinda iffy on whether or not you can use +p in it. I'm keeping Hornady .38 special Critical Defense in it, for safety's sake.

Can confirm it's +P rated. Also noted on the Taurus website: www.taurususa.com/revolvers/small-frame-revolvers/taurus-856/taurus-r-856-38-spl-p-matte-black-2-in

@ Rey M Cervantes B. Are you referring to the rattle noise like something is loose when you move it around? My Taurus 856 does that too. I read that the noise is from the transfer bar inside and is normal. However, this drives me nuts since I own a Ruger GP100 that doesn’t do that.

Yes, I could see this being pocket-able. The exposed hammer might present some complications with the draw stroke, so just like everything else get a good pocket holster and practice, practice, practice. I would also recommend keeping the factory grip as it's a bit shorter than the hogue you see in the beginning/end of the video

The durability of the finish wouldn't bother me at all, solid design, quality materials and good build quality are of greater importance. For a brand new personal defence weapon, it does, as you pointed out have the proven 38 Special +P round which is available from numerous top brand manufacturers configured for self defence. A new gun from a known manufacturer with a lifetime warranty and at an affordable price answers the needs of many potential buyers. The simplicity and reliability of the revolver is far quicker for a new shooter to adapt to than any semi automatic pistol. Factoring in a good holster, speed clips or speed loaders (and their pouches) together with several boxes of your preference in carry ammunition and range time fees to familiarize oneself with the gun and the ownership costs begin to mount. A first time gun owner may want to consider a bobbed hammer for a snag free draw. Once at the range and familiarized with one's carry gun, you'll want to think about cleaning it, which is another financial outlay adding to the list. Budgeting for range time to keep oneself current, capable and confident should be a regular thing, too. The price of ownership begins with the gun and grows from that point on, so remember to budget for the things mentioned above. Subscribed.

$800 a paycheck? After taxes i wish is that biweekly or...
@realpracticaltactical
@realpracticaltactical 2 жыл бұрын
Just based off personal experience making basically min wage a while back. After taxes and medical etc, I was getting 830 bucks deposited into my account every 2 weeks, and that's what I had to work with for rent, car, food, internet, etc. I was lucky to put away 30 or 40 bucks a month towards a gun back then and it took me basically a year to save up for a used Glock 19. I figured there's still people out there in that situation, so this video (actually this whole budget defense series) is for them. Just because money is tight doesn't mean you have to go unprotected like I did!

If only Alec Baldwin had a transfer safety bar his excuse may have worked, I think I probably heard of transfer safety bar probably thought it was common even on antique guns lmao
@Just1American1966
@Just1American1966 2 жыл бұрын
The latest conclusion is that the trigger was indeed pulled. A transfer bar is what allows the force from the falling hammer to be transferred to the firing pin, and pulling the trigger on guns so equipped is what positions the bar in place for that to happen. The safety aspect of the bar is that it is out of position until the trigger is pulled, leaving a gap between the hammer and firing pin to reduce the chances of the gun firing if it is struck or dropped. Whether or not the gun being handled by Baldwin was equipped with a transfer bar is irrelevant. The trigger was pulled, and the gun was designed to fire when that happens.
