It's a real shame your typical AMG owner doesn't know a damn thing about car maintenance, or is afraid of tripping some kind of alarm if they touch anything (I know I was in the latter party for a time...). People who buy them used need to know this especially.

Mike Perry ya. some people don't bother checking that stuff. I've seen people forget to do oil changes for extensive periods of time not to mention air filters. don't trust sellers word if they say "oh ya I had er oil changed about a few months ago"with no paper work to prove so. I've bought a car with a air filter that when banged on the ground about a full handful of dirt came out. another car I bought, same deal with cabin air filter and a bunch of other little things that had just been neglected.

i've done the engine mounts on 3 different m113 AMG's and it's really a very easy job once you have an understanding of the approach angles of the top bolts. you absolutely need to remove nothing, and I don't even touch the top of the engine, I go in from the bottom after lifting the engine with a jack and wooden block.

Brian Carroll I've got a 08 c300 (w204) rwd luxury and needs new motor and trans mounts. I've got the new mounts but trying to work up the courage to do the job. My first Mercedes as well, any tips or advice to make the job less intimidating for a first timer? I've done light work on my car so far, oil change, spark plugs change, cam covers, air and cabin filters, new belt and idler pulley, and few smaller things.

Hey Tavarish, I don't know if you will ever read this message, but I just want to say that you are the TRUE CAR GUY. Other youtubers like Shmee or Salomondrin that claims they are "car guys" but are just a rich guy that buys and reviews cars. All they do is step on the gas pedal of their exotic car and goes "woo hoo hoo, look, I'm a car guy". Anyway, I wish your channel will flourish and I will keep watching as long as you keep uploading.

Soon as you roll up to a shop in a Benz they think you're rich and so a quote for a simple repair will be way overpriced. Best to do it all yourself if you can, these cars are easy to learn on if you have some metric tools and learn how to do the repair by looking on the benzworld dot org forum. I learned this on my first Benz when the shop wanted hundreds for new front brake pads - not even including new discs. I got the parts on rockauto and did it myself better than the shop would have done and saved hundreds. Never looked back.

Those are a PIA. I'm on Benz #9 I think now, and have had two similar era V6's, the mounts are nearly identical, but I'd imagine those are heavier duty. I've never had to pull alternator or compressor though to get them out. It was the same ordeal though, just barely enough room to squeeze them out and you got yours earlier than I did. that little wrench makes all the difference. I've usually be guilty of letting them get so bad that the interior parts start to vibrate like a stinking mac truck on the inside, but when you put the new ones in it suddenly feels like a new benz....LOL.

I have a ML320 SUV that had a bad motor mount, I got both engine mounts and a tranny mount too, all for about $65 on Amazon, Genuine MBZ parts, and got a US Army mechanic (who knew exactly how to do the job) to replace all three for $200. Also, when getting new mounts for the 3.2 Six, the V8 mounts will fit fine and will last even longer, you'd probably never have to replace those again.

Welcome to the world of SL. I purchased a 2005 SL500 for $11,000. I looked up all the paperwork, one owner 61000 miles, body and interior excellent. What I saw needed work, was I could not read the messages below the speedometer, radio screen was dark, like from heat, so you could not read the screen and needed tires. But with the savings, I felt I still had a good deal. I have owned it three months and their was fluid under the car and top would not move up or down. By the time I found an reasonable mechanic I felt comfortable with, we started the work, found speedometer on line and the screen for the radio, I was told I could not get by Mercedes, found a shop in California for just what I needed, cost $100 versus $500. Then the puddle, finally fixed it after replacing 5 Hydraulic pumps located all over the car and am told there is still one more. At $1400 each installed, new set of tires I have about $8000 plus original $11000 purchase. Definitely a loser, but now have a working top with lots of new parts. It’s value is maybe a thousand less than I could get, but love the comments of the car. signed, Loser

Geat vid, good learning. IMO, the N/A SL550 with the 4-valve-per-cylinder (post-2006 I believe) with no hydraulic suspension is the model to go for, because it's both simpler (no supercharger, no hydraulic suspension) and plenty powerful. Nevertheless, yours is a fantastic runner. Oh well, I'm still stuck with my R129 that refuses to die!

My E430's mounts went bad, and I drove it for about a month or two. When I finally got the mounts changed, I couldn't tell wether the engine was running or not based on vibrations alone. It's crazy how much vibration the mounts dampen.

Another concise, fact filled video. It's worth highlighting that Corteco and Lemforder are both OE suppliers to Daimler Benz, but they are not sister companies. Viewers should select parts from true OE suppliers such as Corteco, or one of the ZF group of companies, e.g. Lemforder. I run a classic workshop in the UK - I will not source parts from Febi (Febi Bilstein) for any MB job. They are NOT connected with the Bilstein group, they are an after-market supplier, not an OE supplier. Don't skimp on cheap pattern parts - Tavenish is correct to select quality OE quality suppliers. A hockey puck makes an excellent trolley jack buffer.

That's how I felt on my 04 murano. I got it for 400 since it didn't start. The intake pipe would pop off because the mount was just so bad. I replace the intake with a longer one and drove it with that vibration and no ac for 4 months. He weather got hot so I hopped to fixing my ac and while I was at it I did the mount and it felt brand new. Just sucks that when I fixed the ac the weather cooled down and stayed cool for a week so far.

I remember replacing a control arm on a friend's BMW 5-series years ago with a Lemforder arm. The new arm was exactly the same as the old arm but someone had ground off the BMW logo. Yet there was roughly $90 difference in price to an OEM BMW part.

Good job bro! The haters have never owned, probably ever driven or certainly would ever appreciate why these cars sell new for so much money. There are several reasons. German engineering as a whole have a history of being advanced. they are usually the ones that take the fall for new ideas Concepts and designs. And the good engineering designs end up becoming industry standard. Who started wind tunnel testing? Crashing cars on purpose for testing? Crumple zones? The list is endless if you look.

I have a 2005 S430 that drains the battery if I don't drive it for two days. The rear right door becomes unlocked when the battery is drained. Am I correct to assume that there is a problem with vacuum line for the lock of that door? Where is the pump located? I have already checked all the fuses and no voltage is going through when the car is sleep. Thanks for your help.

Lemförder and Corteco are actually the company that produce the parts for Mercedes. I use them in all my Mercedes. Be aware this models can have 2 oil pans or at least 2 drain plugs. The dealership here in germany missed that and and overflooded the engine of my fathers SL55 with oil. They even forgot to proper tighten the oil cap wich caused a mess in the engine bay. I know why i never visit a dealership and doing all by myself. But by thinking about that the charged 3000 euros for the service wich included oil + filter, sparkplugs, transmission fluid, brakefluid, air filter, ac gas.
