Norman Rowe So true. By the time that our unprincipled media finishes with its clever spin on "sexual abuse" the accused has already been ruined. Even if due process of law is given time to gain traction, it's often too late. The damage has already been done. I would submit that to the extent that we are pawns of the media and it's machinations, that we are no better than a lynch mob. While I whole heartedly applaud the new found freedom that women are finding in this matter, I am vehemently opposed to "guilty until proven innocent".

David Diaz the proof is he admitted to sexual relationships with "multiple subordinates". That isn't illegal but it is improper and in the post Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas era it's stupid and dangerous. Do I believe these women were victims? No. Do I believe that their subjective feelings of being pressured to have sex to keep their job? No. But when one runs a company he should be careful not to treat the organization as a personal harem.

Patrick Pepin I fear this is spiraling out of control like he said. Tavis Smiley is the only one who has so eloquently defended his case. Women who came out about Harvey Weinstein had proof or examples, same as with Charlie Rose. So far all these relationships were consensual. I fear that people for their own vindictive gain are taking advantage of this situation and falsely accusing some men which will eventually cast doubts over the stories of innocent women in the future. On the other hand Tavis and all men, don't fool around with multiple women in the workplace because they will catch feelings and gang up and turn on you. haha All I'm saying is what your Mama told you, watch yo back!

For everyone who says that bosses should not date their employees, why do the women date their bosses? Also, if the boss was a woman and employee a man, would the automatic assumption that the woman abused her power over him be there?
@marys68876 жыл бұрын
Knowledgeisthekey1st It is happening to women already. Andrea Ramsey (D- KS) was running as a democrat in the primary elections to replace a republican house seat and she was accused back in 2005 of sexual harassment and retaliation (firing) against the male employee once he rebuffed her sexual advances. She had to drop out of the race because of the democrats' fake zero-tolerance policy that doesn't allow for due process.

"Do you have to know who your accusers are?" WHAT? Dumb question. Who gets accused of anything, let alone, something as serious as inappropriate sexual conduct, and responds with, "it don't matter who said it." Who said it tells you everything you need to know about your guilt or innocence, as well as their motives.
@makehumanitygreatagain81286 жыл бұрын
Not only that, if he has proof that they're lying, if he knows who they are he can provide the evidence. If he doesn't know who they are he can't provide evidence showing they're lying. At the same time, I don't know Tavis personally but anyone who consistently has workplace sexual relationships is using their power to manipulate. It's pretty simple. With all the women that he would come across in his adult life, why are workplace sexual relationships such a thing?
@Knowledgeisthekey1st6 жыл бұрын
Make Humanity Great Again - I agree with your statement with regards to him knowing his accusers in order to present evidence. But your statement on him manipulating women or anybody in authority position manipulating women is not true in my opinion. You don't think there are women everyday in the workplace turning down the advances of their bosses? Tavis is right, people meet in the workplace everyday and live the rest of their lives with each other. Some of those relationships were manager - employee relationships. Someone just recently sent me an example of Andrea Ramsey, she was accused of sexually harassing a man that worked for her but he turned down every last one of her advances and then sued her company. Not only should every woman who does not want to be approach that way in the workplace follow his example, there are many women already following that same example. So in my opinion, women date their bosses because they want to not because they feel manipulated. They are not little adolescent teenage girls, they are grown intelligent women.

Millions, maybe tens of millions of men and women have met and engaged in legitimate, consensual romantic relationships with people who just happen to be their coworkers. Many people have met their spouses throughout the course of their work careers. This is an extremely dangerous slippery slope and possibly an overreaction to real cases of sexual misconduct.

There are some instances, where women/men will pursue their superior in order to gain access to certain opportunities. This is also unacceptable and It should be punished in the same way as a superior pursuing his/her subordinate. After all, aren’t they both breaking company policy if they had (consensual) relations? If this policy were to be applied fairly, would both the superior and the subordinate be facing the same repercussions for knowingly breaking company policy?

He was asked about nondisclosure agreements and he didn't deny their existence. If he's innocent, why the need for a NDAs? Tavis has his own company, so he's not a PBS employee. Therefore, PBS doesn't have to treat him like an employee. Having sex with subordinates gives PBS legal right to suspend distribution to avoid liability. Having sex with with subordinates you can fire or promote is problematic, consent doesn't matter, it's inappropriate. His responses defending himself apply to coworkers who can't promote or fire each other. Whether he believes an employee fears retaliation is not for him to say, he's not psychic! GTFOH!

I believe him. But with all the single Blk women in the world, why have relationships / sex with your staff ?? He knows good and well he was NOT dating to MARRY. Therefore, he doesn't need to test out the goods.

Dating a co-worker is just a bad idea all around. I never liked anyone that did that. I never liked supervisors that did that either.

Lynn 1908 Travis Smiley mentioned that comment so it cannot be used against him later. He knows that comment will potentially come up again, but now he has already explained its content.

There is nothing wrong with dating the women that work for you. When you're done with one she can watch your relationship grow with her co worker. After all they are adults. Over the years after you run through all the fine ones, you can have human resources hire more to replace the women who move on. You are the man Tavis. It is your company. You do what you want with it. I wouldn't sue PBS. The millions they spend defending your suit has to be matched with the millions you spend to proceed. Your pockets ain't that deep. Open a new business and hire all the women you want. At least now they know what you want.

Facts - some people we have doubts about but not this guy - that is why he turned down those millions of dollars that PBS tried to give him not to go to trial

Sad he looked so ashamed and broken. I need to examine the accusations in detail before I pass judgement on Smiley. I've never heard anything bad about his character before and he certainly wasn't a "party guy" as far as I know.

Tavis should make a documentary about false accusations in america. I would buy that movie.
@-As4me6 жыл бұрын
This is how one defense himself. It is important to know who is accusing you. Also in law you have the right to face your accuser and know what you’re being accused of. Including when where and how. He said he doesn’t handle his the hiring of his employees. This is an unfair investigation and it will do more damage to the movement than good. Investigations should be fair and open to all involved.

The help cannot give their consent to be banged. The boss is not allowed to bang the help. I thought Tavis was hyper sensitive to woman's issues. So Tavis wrote the company rule book and it's ok to bang the help. Tavis that's called open season. I know what you mean when I'm talking to a hot, intelligent woman I get emotional too, wink, wink. But real men don't act on it when they work with that woman period.

A network needs to show bravery and courage...pick up Tavis and his show and put him back on air. I believe him. PBS rushed to judgment and did not do a full investigation. Tavis is still innocent and has not been proven guulty.
