I always knit socks TAAT. Now, I knit sleeves TAAT! What?!?! I even knit part of the sweater body first, then switch to the sleeves so I’m not dragging the heavy, bulky body around trying to knit the sleeves. Just like TAAT socks, I pick up stitches for sleeves and use a real long cable and do magic loop on both of them.

I find large cloths heavy and awkward to use when wet. They grow and can be hard to wring out so I’ve been making them smaller by using a DK yarn (Knit Picks Cotlin and Comfy, Lion Brand 24/7, Tahki Cotton Classic) and a 3mm needle. They end up being about 6”-7” square.

I Love the Queen Elizabeth dishcloths! I have seen some pattern books of dishcloths with the same technique of placing a design in the square by placement of the knit/purl stitches. Have you considered making them for afghan squares? A Queen Elizabeth blanket would be lovely.

I’m knitting Joji Locatelli’s vest, Gossamer, which is worked from bottom back, up to the shoulder, then split for the front and you work down to the bottom front. But I am working the two front panels TAAT which is new to me but eliminates my angst over placing matching button and buttonhole locations.

When using or having more yarn projects in a bag at a time, I put balls of yarn with the project in its own zip lock baggy. The baggy can be reused several times before the traah, even if the zipper breaks. No muss, no fuss. Several projects can be carried in yet one of your pretty, fancy bags, and get finished. Again, no muss, no fuss. Also, watch a Stephen West video on doing a weavin' Stephen technique for ends. Then ends can be finished right away.

Hi Angela! When I knit TAAT (which I haven't done much until now) I cast on each piece separately and slip them onto the long circular needle. I'm actually not aware of a way to cast on both pieces to the same circular at the same time. I will look into that and if I find a method, I'll learn it and share it in a video.

I never grew to love the two at a time socks technique, so I just cast on and knit both socks at the same time! If I’m doing a toe up sock, I work the toe for both socks in one evening and then knit in the round on both of them a couple of lines at a time until I’m ready for the heel, Then start the same process for the heel and leg of the sock. It means I’m always catching one sock up to the other, but only by a few lines of knitting. I’m able to ensure I’m doing the same thing as I work each sock and the second sock is finished within minutes of the first, but I get to do each sock one at a time and on my DPNs. :-)

I love the idea of gifting a beautiful pair of socks. What advice do you have when you don’t know the person’s foot/shoe size?
@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS
@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS Жыл бұрын
This is a great question and I’m afraid I don’t have a great answer. I feel like knowing their size-particularly the length of the foot-is pretty much essential if you’re going to gift socks. So my advice for anyone considering a hand knit pair of socks as a gift for a person when the foot size is unknown: consider knitting a pair of fingerless mitts instead. Maybe not as universally-loved as socks, but close. ❤️

Great info again, Tayler! Thnx 😊 Quick question: how does the Fisherman’s Wool wear for socks? My husband wears holes in his hand knit socks pretty quickly, even when I’ve used a wool fiber that has a nylon component.
@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS
@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS Жыл бұрын
Soooooooooo...this is a good question and one with a not so great answer. These socks will wear like any all-wool sock. Their tendency to wear OUT is greater than socks knit with Nylon. HOWEVER, because this yarn is so susceptible to fulling (felting), I find that the wearing and agitation of the yarn sort of works to fuze everything together. It's hard to explain very clearly, but I suppose it's that the socks felt a bit as you wear them, making them more dense. However the heels and balls of the feet will require darning at some point if they are walked around in a lot (especially those random trips to take out the trash when shoes are sort of overlooked 😉). I know that seems like a dumb thing to say, but for my husband, these will be wearing on the couch socks. He likes to bring socks out to the couch and slip them on while he's sitting and watching TV. I mean, he'll wear them around the house, but not often. So, take form that what you will 😂. I still think they make a cozy pair of wooly house socks!

I have a question about using worsted weight yarn for socks. Do they stay up?! I've always thought you need some nylon in there to keep the stretch. I hate socks that fall down! Lol maybe there is worsted sock yarn?!
@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS
@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS Жыл бұрын
GREAT question! So when I knit worsted socks, I knit them to be chunky and slouchy. I don't intend on wearing them with boots (or any shoes) so having them stay up--like stretchy socks stay up--really hasn't mattered much to me. BUT I know it matters to lots of folks and to that I would say not to expect them to stay up all that much. Your mileage may vary , but I would expect these socks to be cozy, slouchy sweaters for your feet (think: 1980's aerobics leg warmers--in a good way). Now, if you'd like the worsted weight and want the socks to stay up, I would hold a strand of elastic with the yarn while you knit and knit them at a slightly tighter gauger. This will give them more stretch without sacrificing the cozy, thick sock vibe. I hope that helps!

I got some Fisherman's wool from Joann's today because I remembered you said it was on sale. Hopefully I have enough to knit a sweater or cardigan. I have a gauge question about the Felix pullover. The Felix pullover's gauge is 14x20 over 4 inches on a US 10. Before blocking I got 18x24 after blocking I got 15x 23. Does that mean I need to go down a needle?
@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS
@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS Жыл бұрын
Hi Debra! So from what you have here in terms of gauge you would need to go up a needle size to get a gauge closer to 14sts/in. I always remember bigger needle/fewer sts per inch.

@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS

So these mitts are knit the exact same way so they are interchangeable. The way I have them on the needle makes it look like each thumb sits to the inside left of the palm, but in reality, the start of each round is right smack in the middle of the thumb gusset. If that makes sense. 👍
