Perez, i know this is an old interview... but great job! That was a beautiful interaction. I especially liked the part where you & Taylor are talking about the songwriting process. I love seeing some one like Taylor Momsen writing her stuff, giving shape to those inner whispers, saying what she needs to say. There is that window where life propels you to find some one else who will listen. And despite all expectations, that skinny bleached blonde also happens to be an incredible songwriter! She can make people listen! What a gift. I guess i liked that conversation because Taylor can hit a nerve where people actually listen to her, and identify with what she is communicating. I want to say most of the rest of us, but i really can only speak for myself. It seemed like i spent so many years looking for somebody -anybody that i could bare my soul to -just have an honest conversation with. Have you ever actually tried that and noticed how hard it is to do? Eventually one finds oneself screaming until you realize no one will ever hear you. Then you shut up, & become a black box. Or, taking an alternative, somewhere along the way, you peel so many layers off the onion that what is left in your hand leaves you afraid to talk to any one anymore. You shut up, & become a black box. Either way, it ends the same in that if you want to have a genuine conversation: isolation. You are alone. But all you really wanted to do in the beginning was write a song and find some one -any one -to genuinely listen. And what is even more incredible is that this is such a very basic human capacity, but we all so seldom use it! Why? Why do we find it so hard to listen to each other?
