In case nobody mentioned it yet, she wrote this song to Scott borcheta, when he sold her music catalog to scooter Braun; and she started the re-records. The jewels he wore to bury her are her songs and albums, her stolen lullabies. She’s always referred to her songs as jewels and her albums as children 🫶🏼

The quiet intensity of this performance blows me away every time. It’s a great example of how Taylor really relives the emotions that inspired a song as she sings it. She’s an incredible songwriter and performer.

Aaron Dessner is the guy on the guitar. Aaron and Jack are the main two producers she has worked with on her past several albums. Aaron is also in a band called The National, and Jack is the lead singer of the band, The Bleachers! 😁

I have never seen you two so deadly serious throughout a video! This is certainly one of her most raw songs, and it really does seem like she relives her experiences sometimes. There was a performance way back of Back to December in Michigan where she changed one of the lyrics at the end to "so this is for the boy from Michigan" referring to Taylor Lautner who the song is about, and it looked like she had tears in her eyes for some of the rest of the performance. I do think My Tears Ricochet is easily in her top 5 most well written songs. A lot of it comes down to "everything that happens to me happens to you too", and metaphors for what Scott Borchetta did to her (sorry, but FUCK that guy), in brilliantly worded lyrics.

This is one of my favorite reactions of yours. It reminds me of how I felt the first time I heard it. Her lyrics are deeply personal to her, yet she taps into something so universal & relatable in all of us, that we can't help but feel whatever emotion that she's trying to convey through her music. The other guy is Aaron Dressner. He is an absolutely amazing musician. He plays so many instruments and I believe the Long Pond Studios are his and close to his home. Fun fact, he wrote the music for the movie Cyrano which was beautiful.

Every time I see this performance from the Long Pond studio, just hearing her sing it brings me to tears. The way it starts off giving this sad and somber feel to it. The pacing of the song along with her sweet, delicate voice that you can hear a tinge of pain in her vocals and then to hear her end it with a sigh like an emotional weight just came off of her... goodness gracious. It's heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time. Lots of people are missing out on this great artist, honestly. Like you said, no ones doing it like Taylor. One of a kind, truly ❤.

I appreciate that you guys know the events that this song is about. 👍 Knowing that this is about Scott Borschetta and knowing the details about how he took a chance on her, how she took a chance on his new label, how she had to prove herself and assert herself over and over, including proving she's an excellent brand manager -- all of this gives "My Tears Ricochet" so much more impact. This knowledge makes the lyrics' metaphors fit together perfectly. Taylor Swift was born to be a songwriter, singer, and performer.
