Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us-one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America-a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we continue to add shows, voices, and opportunities for activism, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. That’s it. End of mission.

I always feel validated when i see KZfaqrs who make the same comparisons that i do in my head. I also likened TTPD to Alanis' Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie and totally called Fortnight as a copy of A Real Hero by Electric Youth (that song from Drive). Thank you for speaking these thoughts into existence.

I am really interested to see Stereophonic based on this discussion. Fun fact: deciding on the track list for Rumours was a huge pain point for the band. Ultimately, THE BEST SONG RECORDED FOR THE ALBUM, "Silver Springs," was deemed too long and deleted from the final track list WITHOUT STEVIE NICKS' knowledge or permission, and she was pissed when she found out. I would have quit the band over this injustice, but they were making money hand over fist and very high, all the time.

Goodness… after reading these comments I was expecting a much harsher review. But I agreed with a good amount of your critiques. This album definitely needed editing (especially in the anthology). I think the arrested development theme is purposeful. She is commenting in multiple songs on the arrested development of herself, the man she dated, and her fanbase.

Ok boys, let's compare Fortnight vs Levii's Jeans. Both with Post Malone. There is no comparison. I did not like Beyonce's Cowboy Carter, but I and critics don't go after her album the way that Keep It and others go after Taylor Swift. It just feels like there is always a personal attack. It's the way you all seem to take it to the personal level.

Honestly i feel like everyone listened to Tortured Poets already decided how they felt about it. Like it didn't feel like you guys went into it thinking there might be anything of depth. I would say i overall enjoyed it, but it's certainly not perfect and is quite long. I wish she leaned more into instrumentation. i actually found it to be an interesting premise -- to examine what you are left with when you keep making the same mistakes in relationships and constantly feel like you need to justify yourself. It felt recursive in an interesting way to me.

The album is definitely a grower, not a shower. I felt middling about it at first, but after repeated listens I am now obsessed. Everything from the production to the lyric content hits harder and unfolds with greater depth with more listens. Also I think Taylor's objective with this one was not to make an entertaining record full of bangers and bops, but to purge herself of her emotional STUFF over the past couple of years. This was a work for her, not for the fans and definitely not for the casual listeners. And it has the added bonus of offering a healing balm and validation for anyone who has experienced similar relationship dynamics. You don't need to be a billionaire popstar to have felt unseen, unvalidated, gaslit and led on by lovers or business associates. And definitely not to feel nostalgic for better times. That's her genius - the ability to make the deeply personal to her relatable to all (most of) her listeners. On my first listen I would have considered this just above her country output (I really don't like country) but after multiple listens I now think this might rank as one of her best, given time. A lot of people didn't like Reputation at first but now it's considered a high-water mark for her career. I think the same will prove true of this one.

My friends’ kids seem to like her and like that she stands up to bullies, so there's that… She is female representation in a world of boys boys boys, so there’s that… And, her hooks are sometimes catchy… But, I could not tell you many of her lyrics… Good for her for constantly being creative, and though I’ve not ever bought an album or song… As Derrick Berry once said, “Her drag isn’t FOR you.” And, that’s fine, too. Thanks for another fun show, gents. Love, one of your fans on KZfaq. 😊

That's reductive; people enjoying lyrics that aren't complex can have literacy struggles or are on the spectrum and find implicit meanings hard to grasp. Preferring clear communication and explicit meaning isn't a sign of arrested development.
@harlequeen93
@harlequeen93 Ай бұрын
@@intheknowglow as expected, Swifties understood this as a critique of the literal words she uses and not the CONTENT. Don't use ASD as a strawman here to infantilize people on the spectrum; many people on the spectrum can enjoy a range of media from very complex to simple as far as vocab is concerned. Like. How is that relevant here? You're reaching. (And even if she *is* making music with people with low literacy in mind, which let's be honest, she isn't.............what does that say about the 90% of people who listen to her that have average literacy lol) When I say this, I mean that this woman is 34 and is still writing about high school and LIKE she's in high school. I don't care if it's a metaphor, I don't care if she's only saying she feels that way "sometimes." The fact is her lyrical content has not evolved as she's aged. She's still writing about decade-old beefs. She's still writing about being a damsel even as she's the most powerful woman in the music industry. She very much does this on purpose to appeal to teen girls, to deflect accountability for her very adult choices. Many women say that her music "brings them back" to their adolescence. It's a marketing strategy. If you like that, if you see yourself in that, okay. But don't make excuses for it. It is what it is!
@harlequeen93
@harlequeen93 Ай бұрын
@@intheknowglow also saying " people enjoying lyrics that aren't complex [...] find implicit meanings hard to grasp" is wild considering you have to know her whole dating and rivalry history in order to feel "in" on a majority of her lyrics lol like that's still being implicit

The Swifties seems cultish in that they can't take any negative criticism about her music. Taylor is a mortal human, she isn't perfect and that's ok. She won't produce work that is a 100/100. She's gonna miss sometimes and that's normal. Threatening to kill a reviewer is INSANE!

My take on Taylor Swift is that she is funny, the album, the title, and premise is largely self-deprecating and humourous. People can't see that because of typical sexism reasons, but also because Taylor weirdly has thin skin and doesn't let others make jokes about her. Album is way too long, and Antonoff production is starting to blend together. Her fans need to chill, but also a lot of her haters are doing way too much. She doesn't need to have a take on every political situation, that is a weird expectation for people to have about a pop star.
