Being hit in the front some of the sensors may have been changed or the harnesses, the eyes in the bumper can also be an issue if they have been changed. I work in a collision shop and a lot of times when those parts are changed it need to be flashed by dealer

Front radar sensor in bumper could be damaged/ or simple pdc sensors “the little round sensors in bumpers if they are scratched” And for chassis light, most likely wheel speed sensors. Or even the steering whee being off can cause calibration issues. Also make sure oil filter housing isn’t leaking onto belt.

Dude! As a currently F80 owner and first time BMW owner, you’re gonna love it! Also, make sure you upgrade the crank hub! Especially if you’re going to take apart the front of the bay to change pulleys, may as well do it while you’re in there. It’s one of the easy failure points on these engines.

Dude, I feel the same way as you do! I've never wanted a BMW, it was just not a car that I ever thought that I'd buy. I'm a Corvette guy and with the BS Chevy is doing with ordering Corvettes, I ended up buying a 2021 540i Last October. I LOVE THIS BMW! I did a Dinan tune, lowered the car by 1 inch, and put wheel spacers on it and love the way the car performed stock, but after the mods, THIS CAR PERFORM LIKE A DREAM! It's not a Corvette, but I'm enjoying it non the less!

I know exactly how you feel. At 33 I have the exact same feelings on high grade stock vehicles. Still love the oldie full of creative home one-off headaches.... I mean "engineering" . But, its nice to know that everything will work and you won't be spending money and getting stranded all because of something overlooked or worn out.

Hi Taylor, one quick tip: Treat the car with some corrosion protectant, you can get it fairly inexpensive. In Germany we often use stuff called "Rope Fat", but there are tons of options. it would prevent your car from getting ugly underneath.

oh man Taylor, you are really rolling the dice here. these cars are an absolute nightmare to fix and figure out when weird shit happens. E92 generation is probably the last years of the "diy" bmw. the newer generations have so many computers and special procedures and tools involved with fixing every single thing on the car. i really hope this works out for you but i would avoid any newer bmw's in the future. they're made to sell when new, not to be fixed or repaired when used.

You’ll come to love the DCT in that thing. Definitely not a manual, but it’s another type of monster. Can be relaxed around city or a race car when you need. The F8x is the jack of all trades, master of none.

I just purchased an '08 G37s with an auto trans and it felt like a bad idea, but I'm honestly loving it as my daily commute car. Purchased it for the exact same reasons! Something fun to thrash on that I don't have to worry about at all, and it's got comforts and safety features and the paddle shifters for when I wanna have a bit more control.

Dunno about mechanically but in terms of body work, these cars are super simple to work on and everything makes sense. Body panels are easy to remove, adjust, and install. Slick tops are the way to go, last thing you want is the sunroof leaking. Wish I lived closer, I'd do the body work for you for the fun of it. Good luck on the journey.

Just think from the open shop and the fummins, old green shop truck daily, RX7 and the miata. To new shop, new ford dually, built,turbo shop truck,clean toyota 86, built k24 cefiro, BMW daily and an end all be all drift vette!! Hard work pays off Taylor!!

Fair warning, have someone clean your intake valves and put a catch can inline in the PCV. Something I learned about looking at the Mini and the BMW Coupe is that they love to blow a lot of oily residue out the PCV line (especially with forced induction) that cakes on the intake valves and causes them to drop power and then drop a valve or multiple valves because the direct injection doesn't spray the valve with fuel so the junk doesn't get washed off. Those engines definitely have their issues, one thing being how incredibly tiny the ports are. The quote you were looking for is "it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow" no one says really fast cars aren't fun when you can drive them fast but most people don't ever go on the track so it's far more fun to drive a car that can barely break the speed limit flat out that it is to try to restrain yourself in a fast car on the street so you don't get arrested or kill yourself/someone else.

Used to work about a decade and a half at a BMW dealer, until last year. I was about to write my exam for master tech, then decided to leave for Tesla. If you can pull the codes, it would give you a better idea what to look for. Pedestrian warning can be either of 2 things, PDC (parking sensors) or the radar sensor in the front. Front end impacts or bottoming out the front bumper can tweak the radar sensor bracket. You'd have to remove the front bumper and inspect the radar sensor bracket for slight bends (the slightest change will throw it off). It would need to be replaced (or adjust the sensor if the bend isn't too noticeable) and recalibrated with a mirror in a specific distance (most likely would have to go to a dealer, unless a small shop has the proper equipment). Your traction light, based on what you've said, could be the alignment and steering angle sensor recalibration issue. All that said, you'd have to pull the codes to get a better idea. BMW's rely too much on codes. Good luck and feel free to reach out if you have questions. Also, one thing to look for.. for some reason the passenger side rear axle seal tends to leak first. Driver side lasts a little while longer lol.

29, wow I'm impressed you're transitioning so young! I went through a similar experience with motorcycles. For fifteen years on the street or the racetrack I wanted nothing but the most raw experience - which I thought was 750 - 1000cc superbike (140-200hp). Then I took a five year break and when I came back discovered I could have as much or more fun on a 3-400 cc machine (30-40hp) in either venue and a rear tire would last days not sessions. Now I usually take both but ride the little one 70% of the time. I can't wait to see you hit 600k subs. Your channel deserves 1M+.

Welcome to the BMW world. You'll love it even more when you see how much power you can make with easy bolt ons and a tune. The PDS and Chassis Errors are most likely related, probably a front sensor that's missing or needs to be recalibrated from the wreck.

I've always had older project cars I would daily and cars I would build, but last year I bought an f10 535i for a dadmobile since I had a baby on the way and I have to say its my favorite car ever. I always get bored with nice cars and I wanted that one because it's a great platform for bolt ons and other mods but I have truly enjoyed it so much I haven't modified it. DCT trans is life changing. First time you are sitting on a hill and let off the brake and it starts rolling backwards is when it hits you that its a true manual that just has a computer shifting it way faster than you ever could. I wouldnt mind having another M3 but i didnt drive it enough to justify it being in the driveway.

The way you describe trying to strike the balance between simple luxuries and comfort, while still being able to have fun here and there is exactly why I bought a SHO at 37 🤣 A few bolt-ons and a tune and I've got a grocery getter sedan I can take to the local strip and compete with the scat packs from the comfort of overstuffed, ventilated leather seats

I'm in the same boat. I too never saw myself in a BMW. But a couple years ago I picked up a higher mileage 2000 3232CI from a friend for a good price. My wife and I have fallen in love with it. It's nowhere close to perfect, but we love it anyways. I've had to drop some money into it fixing it up and such, but we feel it's well worth it.

I definitely get the idea of the M3. I bought my daily driver CTSV almost 3 years ago for that reason. It's 100% stock, really fun, but comfortable and practical.

I got an f82 m4, once you fix it up, go for a few bolt ons and e85 and you can put down some serious power.
