I went and found my Grandmothers old daily driver, and 1984 Monte Carlo SS. She used to pick me up from kindergarten in this car and take us on family trips. It's been sitting for the last 20 years, and I finally had the chance to buy it, and bring it home! What are we getting ourselves into?

Very cool! My grandfather bought a Monte Carlo new in 1983. He ordered the high performance V8, F41 suspension and nothing else. Even had a radio delete plate. Didn't want "all that crap on my car, if it breaks, it costs money to fix it!" . When he passed in 1995, I was willed his car. It had 53,000 miles . I drove it many years. Enjoy!

You must have had some pretty cool grandparents. I was raised by mine. My grandfather actually understood the meaning of the red light on the dragstrip Christmas tree, and grandma actually liked AC/DC. About six months before she passed, my grandmother said, "I'm sorry you have to take care of me", and I answered, " You took care of me my whole life!" She was speechless. They both lived into their 90s.

The fact that your grandfather was an El Camino man really speaks to me, I have an Uncle who was the exact same way. He got an '83 El Camino when I was 6 years old, black with a red interior, manual swap with a 350 V8 and the Choo Choo customs body kit, absolutely loved that thing and he would often have me in his lap and put my hands on the wheel as he was driving to give me that feeling of being the one driving the car. Unfortunately he had to let the car go in 2011 before I could get my license, but that didn't stop me from getting an '82 El Camino as my first car, and I still have it today! Anyway, really looking forward to seeing how this build progresses, not just because I love these old G Body GM's, but because of your personal attachment to the car itself. Im excited for this one. Very very different from the usual and being so sentimental, only good things can come for this one. Sweet!

My grandpa bought one of these brand new, SS and a few years after he bought it, he swapped in a SBC 350. He still has it sitting in his garage for who knows how long. Every time I see him I tell him to only sell it to me when he’s ready. Maybe some day I’ll get the same call you did and go pick it up. I’m so looking forward to this build you have here.

My best friend's grandfather had a paint and body shop and we grew up around cars and learn how to work on cars and got jobs in the industry. His dad of course owned multiple cars. One of those cars was the same body style SS Monte Carlo just like that except it was black with gray interior and t-tops with the red SS stripe. He also had a 1967 Oldsmobile 442 black on black that was pretty Kick-Ass. It had the 454 Big block. But the Monte Carlo was a special car to both of us because when his mother would drop us off at our middle school she would actually let us drive the car up to the school so we could be seen driving it and she would jump in the driver seat and take it home. The old AC Delco six by nines used to bump in those cars straight from the factory. Great memories . There are a lot of cars that I had or my family had that I wish I could find and get back. Glad to see you got your grandmother's car back. I hope great things happen for you and good luck.

I’m excited to see this build. I also have my grandmother Monte Carlo. Pretty much the same story as you! I am currently in the process of building it. I wasn’t so lucky being in the Midwest lol. A lot of rust and sheet metal repair on my project. I can’t wait to see what you do to it and follow the journey with the project! Keep up the awesome content.

I love most all of your builds, but the Fummins was one of my favorites, being a truck guy/diesel guy. This one REALLY hits home! The few remaining memories I have as a kid with my grandparents was crawling around in my grandfathers 84 Elco SS and also 80's model Cutlass. My grandfather loved the old Olds 442 cars, I still remember some signs he had hanging up in an old barn. I'm so excited for this build. That Monty is absolutely MINT!!! I'm pumped to see you channel your inner VGG and get this one resurrected!

Cars with personal memories are the best cars! Got my dad' Mondial QV I grew up with, I've restored it completely and now got to build new memories with my own kids, it's the best feeling!
