I think it stems from antisocial behaviors. They don't actually interact much with the general populace outside their bubble. Echo chambers that parrots each other's view to the point they go to the extremes because nobody ever argued against it. Pretty common on the internet for these types of peeps regardless of ideals. What they need is the good ol touch some grass and talk to other people approach.

For reference about the betterhelp stuff, Phillip Defranco had another response posted almost 2 years ago. In it he states he never felt betterhelp was a scam but that it suffered from very poorly written Terms of Service that have since been corrected. He also clarified that he distanced himself not only to stop the hate mob, but also because he felt uncomfortable profiting from people signing up after seeing negative testimonials. According to him, he personally went up to their offices and interviewed them to do his due diligence and also actively still uses the service today. This response was not sponsored.

Idubbbz has two kinds of fans. The first group are the people who watched Bad Unboxing and Content Cop. The second group watched stuff like Human Cake. It is impossible to keep both of these groups happy. There will always be a group of fans who shit on the creator for changing the content. It's the circle of life. Also, the ancient civilization stuff is mostly true. I won't say it was the cone heads, but it was probably the cone heads. Also, history of the world is shifted by about 6000 years, give or take.

The primary angle you missed with idubbs, is that it isn't that he went woke or stopped the edge content, let's face it most of us long grew out of that. It's that he not only stopped doing it, but now actively gives people who do it shit and gate keeps along those lines, he got his fame and money being an edge lord and now he's stopping anyone else doing that. It's something fairly common, a good example being Frankie Boyle; He used to say the most heinous shit, be truly offensive. Then when he got his fame with it he also turned around and said to the wider world "You don't get to do this now and you're morally bad if you do." H3H3 is the worst example of this mind you, idubbs is no where near his level of hypocrisy.

It’s so frustrating listening to you guys pretend Ian just had this magical change of heart and that there’s this organic growth that everyone “good” inevitably goes through. The most progressive comedians in the world well into adulthood used to make jokes 10x more transgressive than anything idubbbz ever said. The most popular comedy podcasts on patreon right now are also making jokes just as “problematic” as the stuff he used to make on KZfaq. CumTown now titled The Adam Friedland show for example has a host who says slurs every other episode and they’re arguably farther left than Ian or Ethan (H3H3). It has nothing to do with “growing up” or learning. Ethan for example was in his 30’s when he started. These guys are just shifting with the financial incentives that come with their main platform of choice. If anything people were more sensitive in 2017. You can be a progressive person on the real material issues that matter and still find humor in the stuff you’re not “supposed” to say. A lot of humor is built off discomfort. It’s the release of tension. I’m firmly on the left, but I will never give into this false dichotomy that being “edgy” (whatever that even means exactly) requires someone to be some reactionary stagnant child stuck in a phase and that in order to be a good person you must divorce yourself from it and “grow” theoretically into the clean standards of corporate HR departments. Nerd City was the only one talking any sense on this subject.

The problem that you touch on near the end is the issue is unfalsifiability. I can propose any number of ideas, but many cannot proven to be false. This does not mean this is true or false, this often just means there is no evidence to contradict (ie no proof). If I say that the reason fish bite hooks is because impercievable ghosts alter their decision-making and my evidence is only that fish bite hooks, thats an unfalsifiable statement... you cannot prove this wrong it needs to be proven right in the first place. Sure you could point to fish biting hooks, but that is not evidence of the ghost theory, only of the fact fish bite hooks. The secret ancient society idea is quite similar. You have an off-the-cuff statement that actually there was an ancient hyper-advanced civilization that constructed all these ancient structures... his evidence simply being these structures exist. Thats not evidence of a secret ancient civilization, thats evidence of buildings existed. They have not proven these must have been made by atlanteans, only that they were at one point made. The institution of science relies on proofs either for or against ideas. If someone makes an unfalsifiable statement... they cant really do much more than show what we do actually know and pokeholes in whatever evidence they may be... but an unfalsifiable statement by definition cannot be proven wrong, only unsubstantiated. Unfalsifiable statements are shields to hide behind to avoid criticique and share ideas that cannot be proven.

and for evidence that the pyramids were probably entirely reasonable structures to be made across the world... take sand then pour it on the ground and see the shape it forms, a pyramid. Then try to find the best shape to stack for buildings... its probably a brick. Now try building a pyramid out of as few bricks as possible... it resembles all these structures. Theyre complex in terms of effort, and likely required experts from their time but they are hardly complex ideas you need fed to you to ever come up with... its kinda just the logical conclusion to how to make something tall, stable, and relatively efficient with access to only relatively simple materials.

When they're talking about fans interacting with creators. Most viewers do view people who make content or have shown up in things differently. They approach them while they're eating or in confrontational ways. To the fans it's this parasocial thing, they've invested time, in patrons cases money. They want to interact and it comes out in a awkward manner. Not realizing that it's a personality that's put on for the most part. The fans should just say, "Hi, big fan of your work I think it's really great." And leave it at that. Main character syndrome where they believe they're entitled to interactions just because they watch your stuff is so overwhelmingly negative. It's hard for people to actually wrap their heads around oh, this is a person, going about their business like I do, they probably don't want a massive deal made out of them. For example, a creator leaving a theater with friends, a fan walks up and spregs out. Just a God awful situation. They're having a nice time and the awkwardness of the fan interaction is so random that it ruins their time.

I am in the same boat, a lot of it comes down to context, intention, and environment. I firmly believe that it is better to laugh at stupidity than it is to allow stupidity to control us through fear and anger. Edge when done specifically to be an asshole isn't fun for me but I like laughing at the person doing it because they are genuinely stupid, but edge when used to make fun of the absurdity of itself is a lot of fun and it is moreso because the person is laughing at themselves too. But you do need the right audience and understanding for it too. An audience like the public that doesn't know you at all isn't going to go down well. And an audience that is too young won't be capable of understanding any nuance. I do feel bad that Ian blames himself for creating his audience, he isn't responsible for what other humans choose to perceive, believe, and act like. But it is also egotistical to believe that he had that level of power over other humans. It was probably more likely that parents neglected their children and didn't raise them properly. If a parent neglects their kid and the kid watches the human centipede, is that the human centipede's fault, or the parent's fault?

What made me not respect idubbbz anymore was the Sam Hyde documentary situation. he and yoko ono have narcissistic personalities he went to make a hit piece on Sam and when it came out at the end that every experience he had and encountered, his office being a fake rental dental office and his crew acting and fucking with him he didn't have any footage that made him look like a "mastermind" so he never uploaded the Documentary until Sam uploaded his side. the whole drama with Sam training Epic Meal Time I don't expect him to make content cops and unboxing videos forever but catching squirrels and doing streams with Hasan Piker, and H3H3. When I four years old I already knitted my own anthro plush dolls, come to think of it I done a lot as a four year old. I already knew how to read and write. I was when first murder when I was five, it was the gypsy mafia era, they were also the old kids in my neighbourhood so I guess my only potential for friendship, of course they’re all dead now or in prison just like my old friends who died from old age. Old people were my best friends because I did t lime the violence amongst the Gypsy kids their leader was so cringe himself MacGyver after a damn American tv show. Later on they smashed my giant Lenin statue head in the back yard with a sledgehammer, then stole a bunch of stuff and declared my yard is their territory now, well I snitched out them to their Dad so he whipped them with a spiked belt right in front of me. We have all kind of animals enter my yard, moles, beavers, foxes, lizards sometimes, wild dogs, and we had weasels too, they left their baby and I grew it for a while, gave it milk though a straw until it learnt to drink out of a plate, that was until out drunk grandpa came back from the village. I entered the house saw the weasels gone and my grandpa sleeping in his own urine. I grew bunnies too, but my dad did stuff to them. He fed them too us and lied that the weasel got them, we didn’t have much food apparently.

As always, respect to Nerd for his more mature and thought out perspective on these topics. From how it's played out, it really does seem like Ian, or at least Anisa, have spite towards their fans. Basically in what you were saying with Anisa's position in regards to Ian, moving from backstage to front - it really just feels like she's his handler; this only being reinforced further by her statements. He can do as he does, whatever sphere of media he participates in nowadays I'm not its target. I'll just watch Maxmoefoe instead. Hard agree on the LOLCOW stance Ian takes by finding these peculiar individuals and just following them around for a time. Hyde swears that Ian even lamented that their time together didn't result in the content that he wanted, something along the lines of Ian always wanting to play puppetmaster.

Feels weird how he switched his edgy persona to a more agreeable one while he’s now subtlety exploiting LOLCOWS. I support people changing their worldviews but he was an adult when he gave his hard takes on the N word to his mostly teen audience. From the Sam Hyde situation to the creator clash drama happening now, it feels like he’s constantly tripping over his ego to some extent. Trying to shift his demeanor while still trying to carry a semblance of edgy internet culture in his content. I think it’s the consequence of having a fan base centered around counter culture

Of course that's not everyone though, you have those who genuinely hate her because they believe "she changed Ian" for the worse, which could be partially true but that's not their job. Before Leafy was gone and Ian went through the cuck drama, Leafy posted a video of Anissa practically wanting Leafy on Twitter (real or not I'm not sure.) Yeah I think most of the hate Yoko got was people who either didn’t like her artwork because it was modern art or people who thought she broke up the Beatles. The art group I can at least understand because art tastes are subjective, even if that’s not a good reason to dislike someone personally, but the Beatles stans are just completely incorrect. There was already conflict within the band over creative differences long before Yoko arrived.
