Immersionrc ghost vs TBS Tracer is interesting. The ghost is capable of 222hz and soon capable of handle 500hz. I’ve already bought the ghost system. Upgraded from Crossfire and the difference is amazing.

@@theaypisamfpv it's much worse in your case with the phone, crossfire is completely fine you probably won't even notice difference and crossfire is 900mhz so penetration and range should be much better just because of physics

That was my point however a major communications protocol change for all my rigs ?!?!? yea no !!! that's as ridiculous as jumping the analog ship to DJI digital. Its a really fun hobby but its not my life !!

@@seacprogrammer8455 ya, I mean, you don't have to switch everything out right away. I've done two Rx migrations and the migration to DJI, when I switched I only changed out one or two quads and just built new quads with the updated components. It's not hard to carry two an extra RF module with you and switch when you want to fly a different quad.

i followed your advice and learned on cheap analog last year. i learned to fly outside my radio range so i'm building DJI and tracer setup since you switched. I think you should do a blind test. Two identical quads. Two radios. One with Crossfire, one with Tracer. Put your goggles on, have someone else hand you a radio and power up the quad. Then see if you can tell which it is.

Trappy said that was their plan but everyone wanted the bay to add a MPM. So we're stuck with adding it to the Tango 2. For now.

I run tracer on my Vista setups and works beautifully... I wouldn't recommend long range flying, but for freestyle and bando-smashing... Fuckin' awesome! Never going back to CRSF

I feel like IMC ghost being 2.4 Low latency AND LoRa is the best of both worlds. Flying XM+ right now and trying to decide what protocol to jump on.... Leaning ghost but going to give it a few more weeks.

Fast link but sacrifices range because tracer is not utilizing LoRa. ExpressLRS is the world's best RC control link.

JFYI Wifi is generally not frequency hopping. Sometimes a good access point would switch channel to avoid using an already congested one but that's it.

Your original point is still all correct: There's more bandwidth available in higher frequencies without disturbing other people but they experience higher attenuation especially through objects. @@MrSteeleFPV Latency from stick move to crsfshot output on the rx is less than 5ms. I didn't really understand how tbs measured their latency, but I think the all up latency is higer than 3ms... There are currently 2 sizes of rx, a 20x20 mount one and a smaller one. It's not a commercial product yet, you have to buy them from jlcpcb. the beautiful thing is that it's evolving very quickly and open source means everybody can make it better and push the limits of rf technology. Sure, Tbs' solution is hassle free, but if you got the time, you should definitely try ELRS.

Because of the huge width of the 2.4GHz band it is actually less likely to have interference issues. Pretty much all the devices currently operating on 2.4GHz are operating on 100mw or less, so the impact is going to be low even in a super wifi dense area.

Not quite sure. Really this videos purpose was to bring attention to low latency 2.4 links getting really good. I’m sure ghost is great. I just don’t have one to test and the difference between the two might be like splitting hairs. And feature sets

Noice!....... I literally just bought tracer and crossfire modules. Switching all my park rippers to tracer and I’m stepping into LR flight hence purchasing of crossfire. I’ve had some good range on my micros in frsky using an crazyf411 diversity fc. Whoops n hoops was fun but long range shredding has a better flow feel..... thanks for the info dished out here MR S!

The Tracer starter kit (TX and three RX units) comes with the inverter board to put into a QX7.

i had to lower my rates by about 30% going to crsf shot from dsmx. if using betaflight, turning down feedforward really helped me out also. not sure i need less latency. can rates go negative? hahahahaah

@@GiffysChannel correct me if I'm wrong but 5G doesn't have anything to do with wifi at all. 5ghz wifi has been around since 2009 and isn't a new technology at all where as 5G phone networks are relatively new and the "G" in 5G stands for generation hence 3G, 4G and now 5G and operate on a number of different frequencies as you said but wifi only operates on 2.4 or 5ghz

@@jacksonsherriff9899 no, I believe you're correct. I was just assuming that cellular technology had been using the 2.4 and 5.8 bands since 4G. I'll have to look more into the IEEE specifications. What I know for a fact is that to increase speed, you have to increase frequency. The cost to increasing frequency is loosing the ability to penetrate objects. The fastest part of the new generation cell technology (5G) is going to use much higher frequencies called mmw (millimeter wave). This willdeliver the speeds they're promising but it will only work in areas where it will have to connect LoS (line of sight). To do this in an urban environment, there will need to be antennas on every street corner to maintain coverage. My understanding is that 5G is the same as 4G but with these new frequencies thrown in the bucket as well. This is very attractive to advertisers because they get to sell the tech using terms like "speeds up to.." even though only people in cities are going to get it first.

I bought into crossfire a couple of months ago. A little gutted, but at my level, I don't think ill even notice the lower latency.

You’ll be fine man. It’s like pc building. The latest and greatest is always one step ahead of you but. What you have is so damn good you’d never know unless you just have the perfect use case where you need the fastest of the fastest. Crossfire suited me perfectly for The last 4 years. All of my videos I was using it. There’s not much to increase on haha we’re splitting hairs here

Frsky says they have ota. But u have to bind first and be on same firmware.. then u have to remember to upgrade all the receivers first before upgrading module or internal. Never backward compatible.. and frsky doesn't answer emails when u need help and go thru 4 r9 trying to get it to work with geprc cinepro. While r-xsr and xm+ work no issue. And geprc no help (now I think its a low power issue )

Crsf at 150 Hz is like 11 ms end to end whereas Tracer is around 8 ms end to end.

I'm subscribed now and left a like. I am trying to implement TBS tracer. One thing that I am not clear on is the attachment to the flight controller. Can I not pick any RX TX of the same number on a flight controller to hook this up? I have wired this RX to TX and TX to RX, and my radio transmitter goes from Paired with the Radio (green light on the micro radio) to a solid red. I'm just getting started with TBS Tracer and from this indication, I'm not sure if I am linked back to the actual main transmitter. I have not yet set up Betaflight because I was concerned that I lost the green light to the main radio

All sounds good, but from what the technical experts are saying, Ghost has 4x the range of Tracer, when in long-range mode, I'll stick to Ghost (and the company that brought us the gift of rapidFIRE)

Tracer in the US is getting a 1w update later on. Soon after release it will have 500mw. All tests so far are on 100mw for the tracer

does that mean for the UK especially crossfire is a better overall experience than tracer due to the interference? I just bought a crossfire nano starter kit for my birthday aswell as my first 5 inch, and I'm not sure now after this video if to return it to order (preorder) tracer lite and wait to fly... I feel like it would be a bit of a waste of money to have bought the crossfire if i'll end up on tracer anyway. But there's also ghost and we don't know which is better yet. That and I think link robustness is most important for me rather than marginal latency gain over an already low latency system...

It’s obviously not as robust as crossfire. But. In my experience so far. About 30 flights of hardcore exploration and freestyle. It’s been hella solid. Not even an rssi warning

@@MrSteeleFPV Cool, the endgame for TBS would probably be a dual system that keeps fast 2,4 Ghz as long as possible but also has 900mhz fallback thats just always on. JETI has something similiar.

@@MrSteeleFPV Here's what I'd like to see. One transmitter module that can work with both crossfire and tracer, then you decide what reciever to put in which quad based on how that quad is used. I like Thomas's idea too, but wouldn't you have to have two sets of antennas on the receiver for both frequencies?

Hey Steele. Can you confirm your numbers on the latency? My understanding is Crossfire and CRSFshot do their thing at 1 sec / 150Hz = 0.006, so to me that's 6ms latency .... Yeah? Same goes for 1 / 300hz = 0.004 = 4ms latency for Tracer...

That my understanding as well - Crossfire @ 150Hz locked and running CRSFshot is ~6ms latency. Obviously if you don’t run 150Hz locked and CRSFshot, then you have more latency as Crossfire switches to 50Hz, and more variation without CRSFshot. But for short-range flying, Crossfire should be ~6ms AFAIK.

I referred to an Oskar liang post about cross fire. Might be a tad out dated or before 150jz refresh... but with that said. I run 150hz all the time and honestly it rarely stays at 150. I can feel it switching back to 50 when I fly super hard in urban areas. So I used the average which for me is 50hz. At around 14ms average. Tracer. From what I’ve been told is 3ms at 250hz. Could be slightly less could be slightly more. But I can say that the difference is night and day. And I doubt a difference of 2ms would be might and day. From 4-6ms like you’re saying. I think in that case it’s crossfire at its best possible. And tracer stirs average or worst. Maybe some things to think on. I’m not saying I’m right. Just stating my findings in using the product first hand. That’s all I’m here for :). Can barely tell you how it works. But when I comes to feeling the difference. I got that on lock

@@MrSteeleFPV Yeah I'm interested in getting ever closer to the 'now' myself. I race whoops indoors, and that extra connection with CRSF shot on Crossfire on the Tango II was really noticeable to me over FrSky. Even this lower latency between 6 & 4ms on Tracer, while mostly imperceptible, I think will still feel tighter and sharper than Crossfire and (obvs moreso) compared to other (slower) control links. Looking forward to having a play when I can justify the upgrade path costs... maybe that should be an IF. Cool tech anyways. Glad the control link latency is chasing down theoretical limits and that there are good companies pushing the envelope. Great time for the hobby.

@@MrSteeleFPV Totally agree! I think for anyone doing mid-range freestyle flying, the difference in latency will be super noticeable. I can even feel a difference between 150Hz and 50Hz when making quick moves at distance. For average racing pilots on the other hand, who run Crossfire on 150Hz locked mode, I think the difference between 150Hz and 250Hz isn't as meaningful. Interesting device. Wont be making a change any time soon but I could see my freestyle stuff on it while keeping my big LR stuff on Crossfire. All the reason to stay on a JR module radio and be able to hot swap between modules which is less an issue.

Ever thought about locking 150hz and upping your power output ? I get plenty of range when doing so with my crossfire.

@@MrSteeleFPV fair enough. I haven’t personally had any issues when flying with others. Tracer is hands down faster but for what it’s worth , trappy told me that for 150hz locked, he recommended 1w and above for being able to get range and a fast link. I typically fly locked at 500mw on 150hz and it gets me far enough for any office park or bando flow.
