Great demo. This guy is a solid player who has a firm grasp on the equipment. I really want one. The price is another big selling point. All these effects for 800.00. I think all you would need is a good clean amp and a Sure SM 58. That is right the good old $100.00 standard.
@warrenharding103
@warrenharding103 Жыл бұрын
I'd stay away from an SM58, they're highly sensitive (meaning you can stand back and they'll still pick up your voice) but they're muddy sounding. I was playing once on stage and had some sort of issue with my mic so one of the guys pulled out an SM58 (looked like one) for me and at the end of the set I said "Wow, I've ever heard an SM58 sound so good." He said, "that's not an SM58, it's an AKG!" So that clears any confirmation bias I may have had. Go for a condenser mic or a Sennheiser, they're way better!

did yall use different gain stage circuit types to make the different amps or is it just the same distortion block with EQs variations in front of it? because fenders would have less gain stages than a recto or newer marshal, the more high gain amps would have cascading gain stages.

Hi Baz, Sorry I can't reply to linked comments if you have it turned off on your end. You can go straight out of VL3 into the PA/Powered-Speakers. Some folks get stuck on the fact that there's no Vocal level. We think of the vocal level as the main output level of the box. Everything else is mixed relative to that signal. So, when you're mixing in VL3, start by getting your vocal signal to the FOH to the level you want it, then play guitar and adjust the Main Mix guitar level to blend with vocal, then do the same with Aux and so on. Keep in mind that the headphone mix isn't a mirror of the Main Mix, so you can have different levels coming to your headphones if you like. Hope that helps!

John Swank Hi John, hmm that's very strange that you weren't able to connect with support. Did you go to support.tc-helicon.com and open a support ticket? They can take a couple of days to answer if they're swamped, but can definitely point you to a repair facility. The only caveat there is if you imported your gear into a country where we don't distribute, then we wouldn't have a repair facility in the country. If you're in a larger country, there's often more than one facility so that shipping and turnaround times are shorter. I'd really encourage you to get the support RMA side of things going if you need the repair done. Your experience with not being able to find a way to repair things is atypical imho.

TC-Helicon Thanks for the reply, I didn't realise my comments weren't repliable. It sort of makes sense but it's nice to have control on the fly live at the gig. It's option paralysis and a full understanding of how the unit works in this situation that I think I need to brush up on. I have an external wah that I use and wondered if it could deteriorate the signal into the VL3 for harmonies etc. but it handles this very well so it seems. I did ask about using additional FX pre VL3 but didn't get an answer. Maybe because of linked comments being off?
@tchelicon
@tchelicon 9 жыл бұрын
Baz Axe Hi Baz, looks like I can comment on this one :) If you use FX prior to VL3, you want to make sure they don't change the signal enough to obscure the chords. So, heavy distortion or pitch stuff will tend to have a greater negative effect.

TC-Helicon Thanks for your reply. I am using my Bad Horsie wah which don't need a switch to activate it, it's turned on by movement in the pedal automatically, if the VL3 had this feature I'd use it. Also a Tube Screamer on mild overdrive seems OK so far, using the VL3 Drive in addition gives me like 3 amp channels on one preset, I wanted a bit more OD in addition to a clean sound on each preset. I have purchased the Switch 6 so I can off load the guitar layer then I can use the Vocal/Guitar button assigned to another function. I'm learning more each day. Any advice is fully appreciated. Many thanks 8-)

TC-Helicon After owning the VL3 for a week now I can see it has some limitations for being controlled via MIDI. I would like to control Guitar Volume and Wah with 2 separate expression pedals. I know I can plug them direct into the VL3 but I have a Roland FC-300 with 2 x Expression Pedals plus 10 other assignable pedals for control changes so I would like to offload my guitar layer to the FC-300 as Switch 6 don't have lighted indicators on it. Any chance of a firmware update to include this valuable option? It's hard to know what effect is on with the Switch 6 8-)

Hi TC, I'd like to set up a basic guitar rig on my Voicelive 3. Amp is clean, then some crunch on the drive pedal, reverb, delay, chorus to their respective switches and I've mapped a tremolo to the Hit switch. How can I get a distorted effect mapped to the comp switch when I'm already using the drive block though the drive switch? Hope that makes sense ;-)

Hi TC Helicon, I'm thinking of purchasing the VL3 but would like to ask a few questions. Does the VL3 have a built in mixer? As a solo musician I play electric guitar and sing to backing tracks from my iPad so I'm wondering if I could plug in all 3 and mix them to go out to 2 active PA monitors (ie) could I do without a separate mixer? Cheers guys for any feedback on this.

I'm trying to figure out how to assign a distortion guitar preset to a step within on an existing clean guitar preset. My reason for doing this is when you get your clean guitar settings (i.e, pre\post gain, frequencies, etc) to form really nice bright, fully bodied clean sound simply hitting the step to enable distortion doesn't work because it's using the sound settings for your clean amp and won't produce the required amp\crunch, gain etc you need for your distorted patch. I just can't figure out how to do this.

Hello Tom In the guitar module, is it possible to set the reverb so that we only have the sound of the reverb and not the direct sound of the guitar ? Just the wet sound without the dry one if you will. .In the voice module, it is easy to do that, but for the guitar it doesn't look like we can do it. Thank you !
@tchelicon

I don't think there's a way to get 100% wet for the guitar. You can put the level pretty high relative to the dry but we don't actually have a "dry level" in that signal path.

Hello, I have bought this great unit a week ago. It's really awesome. But I have a question. I have the Hot Rod Deluxe Bluesman tube amp so I don't need any amp modeling in my basic setup (preset) for my guitar, but i found that when I switch the amp modeling off I loose EQ possibilty too. On the other side I'd like to eliminate my amp footswitch to turn drive on/off and I'd like to use Drive button of the VL3, but it seems that when I switch the button on it activates such as driven amp model which is set in amp tab. It changes the sound character. So my question is: Is the any mode that eliminates amp modeling but keeps EQ alive and is there let's say drive function such a stompbox which just dirts the sound but does not change the character of the sound? Thanx.
@tchelicon
@tchelicon 8 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Yes, when you turn off the amp block, everything related to "tone" goes away. This is by design, because you're going into the Hot Rod and would control your tone there. Amp/Drive are connected. Drive is an overlay of the settings in the Amp block. It's not a separate "overdrive pedal" as it were. Also, remember to turn off speaker sim in the setup --> guitar page if you want to go to your amp. I think your best bet would be to use the VL3 in the effects loop (preamp out, poweramp in) and then use the channel switch on the amp for distortion.
@brazvo
@brazvo 8 жыл бұрын
Hello, yes I can change my EQ settings on the amp, but when I use different guitars (single coils/HB) it's confortable to change EQ setting in presets. This is the application I have used in the unit before VL3, but there was EQ in separate tab as well as in amp modeling. You could take this such an idea to the future. But, I found a solution for me. I set Amp tab to Acoustic, it does not change the sound (I don't know why :) ) of my electric guitar so I can use the EQ then as well as Drive works well.

Hi surgeyX, you must have replies turned off on your G+ account, so I can't reply directly to your comment. You might want to check out the forums for VoiceLive 3. There's a lot of guitar talk there and people who've spent a lot of time tweaking their VL3's for guitar sounds. They might be able to give you some tips to get closer to the sound you want. Keep in mind that "good" guitar sounds are about the most subjective and internet war creating things in the universe. One of the things people find about VL3 is that we give a lot more depth of controls than many of the systems out there, which means you can get where you want to go eventually, but we agree that the top level controls and basic fine-tuning of the styles isn't as easy. support.tc-helicon.com/categories/20073491-User-Forum

+TC-Helicon Hi -- thank you for responding -- I hope that I fixed the stupid comment thing; I had no idea people could not reply to my comments. I looked on the forum, and unfortunately I see that a lot of others share my sentiments :( It seems that getting good a high-gain metal tone out of the VL3 is a tough thing to accomplish. I know good is subjective, but the AxeFX / Kemper seems to be able to emulate a Peavey / EVH 5150 or a Mesa Rectifier / Mark V extremely well, and the VL3, well...can't. The best I can seem to get out of it is a Marshall-like tone, reminiscent of 90s mainstream rock. If you guys have any EVH 5150s or Mesa amps on your end and can find a way to make the VL3 sound like them, please let me know!

The BodyRez presets work the same as any other guitar preset. When you adjust the pre/post gain, you're able to control drive/volume. So, you could make a BodyRez guitar preset have distortion if you want to.

Hi Tom-I thought that once I selected the Guitar mode the name portion of the display screen would change to show the guitar presets. The manual actually says that it does, but it doesn't. Once I watched your demo closely I realized that your name display wasn't changing either. Then I realized I just needed to scroll forward to the upper numbers to find the guitar preset names. In Voicelive Touch 1 there was a chart that said what all the presets were from 1 to 199 or however many there were, but I didn't yet locate a chart like that for the Voicelive 3. Is there one?

Not to pitch our own products too much, but a lot of folks like the FX150 with VL3. You can use the headphone output to go into the Aux in on the FX150 and still have 2 channels for other stuff. That said, if you don't want mic stand mount, you can pretty much use any full range pa monitor. It doesn't have to be a "FRFR amp". If it were me, I'd probably just buy a used powered speaker ;)

Oh, sorry didn't address the guitar/vocal presets. They're the same. Each preset contains both guitar and vocal sounds. The layer is basically just pointing to what you're controlling effects-wise, but they're not separate presets.

Hi TC-Helicon. I've taken the plunge and purchased the VL3. I'm having a few problems getting to grips with the mixer settings to balance The vocals, guitar and backing tracks via the Aux In. I got the VL3 to minimise carrying too much gear to gigs as a solo guitarist/singer, I would like to leave my mixer at home and plug the VL3 direct to my powered speakers. It would be great to see Tom & Craig do a video on this as I presume lots of solo performers would benefit from it. Hey FilmBizDude! I’m really sorry to hear that you’re having this experience. We are aware of this issue and unfortunately there is a 7% failure rate with all the Voicelive 3 Extreme's that are out in the world right now. All manufacturing going forward has eliminated this issue, but unfortunately there is no way to go through the units that have already landed at the stores. You'll need to contact our CARE department at the contact info above and send it in and they'll fix it for you. Alternatively, depending on the return policy at the store you bought it from, you may be able to exchange it there, but again, it depends on what their return/exchange policy is. We're very sorry for this issue and want you to know that we've done everything we can to stop it from happening in the future. Thanks for singing with us!

Hi Guys.. Is it possible to change the order of the effects in line ? Cheers,
@tchelicon
@tchelicon 10 жыл бұрын
Hi mrpollak, we don't offer the ability to change the signal path in any of our gear. Some effects are parallel and some are serial. Some can even change depending on the other active effects at the time. So, we lock our pathing to ensure that users have the best chance of getting the sound they expect. It does limit flexibility for those who really know their stuff, but we don't feel that controlling the effect chain would offer enough tangible benefit vs. the potential pitfalls.

Can I assign guitar and vocal patches to certain presets/steps on the VL3? For example: Verse one of a song I want just a basic vocal with reverb and clean guitar, but on the chorus I want some dirt on my guitar and vocal harmonies. Can I do both with a single tap of my foot using the "step" pedal? I love my VL2, but if this can replace my floor guitar FX and make my life easier I'm upgrading!
@tchelicon
@tchelicon 9 жыл бұрын
Wynkoop Entertainment Yep, you sure can. Essentially steps work the same was as in VL2, but the guitar component is a part of the preset that you're creating the steps from. You can't choose "this vocal sound from this preset" and "that guitar sound from that preset", since the components aren't super easily portable, but you can certainly tailor the sound of the vocals/guitar in each preset as much as you like. If you're already used to using VL2 and steps, you'll just add the guitar component and be rocking right away. I think it'd be a good choice.

TC-Helicon I'm assuming I can still use VoiceSupport to copy a "catch all" vocal preset multiple times, correct? For example, if I have a basic vocal and guitar sound that will work for 80% of my songs, I can make that one preset and copy the heck out of it and rename it accordingly - then add steps and/or tweak guitar/vocal sounds to each of those renamed duplicates as needed. Make sense? As a final question before pulling the trigger, any thought to adding a PC/MAC based editor to VoiceSupport allowing users to tweak guitar/vocal effects on screen vs. on the unit itself - giving users the ability to view the virtual rack of gear, turn knobs, move them around in the signal chain, etc.
@tchelicon
@tchelicon 9 жыл бұрын
Wynkoop Entertainment Yep, you can definitely to that with VoiceSupport. We aren't going to be making any editors, but we've given some help to voiceliveeditor.com/index.php/editors to get his up and running. I believe he's working on an VL3 editor currently (free basic is already done).

Sure. Any of the guitar effects can be applied to an acoustic signal. Of course, some effects are better suited to electric in general, but there's a ton of controls to tweak.

How about the effects with a tube amp? What's the best setup then ?
@tchelicon
@tchelicon 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Jasper, It'll depend on how you want to utilize the gain structure of your amp in the signal path. If you've got an effects loop, you might want to turn the Amp OFF in VL3 and use the amp itself for drive/gain, using all the other effects in VL3. That'll help keep things like Reverb from being distorted at your amp's preamp stage, since the loop typically goes directly to the poweramp stage. If you run your amp clean, then I'd setup an amp sound you like as a baseline, then use the Drive block to add more distortion/gain when you want it. Also, you might want to turn off the Speaker Sim in the setup menu, so that you're not sending a speaker simulation to an amp speaker that has its own characteristics. The Speaker Sim is better with an FRFR setup.

Could you recommend settings for us WEIRDOS that use Taylor T5z guitars and need to have both electric with cab simulation sounds and direct clean acoustic sounds under one roof? If this is possible I will buy one of these as soon as you reply… I have a VL Play GTX but the guitar sounds are limited and not 100% of my liking. Would love to have everything under one unit and get a smaller pedalboard instead of one box for vocals then another box for guitar… PS: I use a Bose L1 Model 2 with a Tonematch T1 little console, if that help you out to your recommendations, thanks….!
@tchelicon
@tchelicon 10 жыл бұрын
Hi thebarcodestv,You can define guitar sounds per-preset, including all of the amp styles/settings. For the acoustic sounding presets, you'd likely want to start with the Acoustic Amp style and tweak from there. You could even set up one "go-to" acoustic sound on the Global preset, then just enable the Global setting in any preset's effects you want to have carry those sounds. It would save you from re-tweaking all the common acoustic presets.For the electric ones, you'd tweak/save them as normal.For the L1, turn tone match off completely on both the vocal and guitar input channel(s), especially if you're using "Tone" on the TC-H device. Tonematch will just create competing EQ etc. and really not work to its potential. Hope that helps!

niir chowdhury Make sure you set your input gain (in the SETUP --> Guitar tab) so that you get green/yellow LED's on the LEVEL meter. The overdriven guitar sounds won't work as well if you're not getting enough signal into the input.

I have been a professional musician for over 30 years. The idea of this particular pedal is great. I thought it was going to be the best thing since it was going to fulfil all my requirements in one neat package, no more pedals covering my floor area during live performances. But, alas, it was not to be. The vocals did the job, but too many whiz bangs in there, just give me a few good quality delays and reverbs without the robots and monsters. I found it was going weird on me during big notes and breaking up a bit. I spent nearly a whole month trying to get a guitar sound that I thought was good quality. The guitar sounds are lacking, badly lacking. I never used the looper, tho I guess some find it useful. I even sent it to a qualified TC Helicon repairer to get the hardware mod to stop the buzz and pop. I sold it on ebay for half of what I paid for it because of the known problems. I sold my Zoom pedal because I thought the voicelive 3 was all I needed. I was naïve to think this small light weight unit was going to replace my 3 other units, zoom pedal, harmonizer, and reverb/delay units. In short, I was very disappointed. I’ve bought back all my old equipment. Like I said, the idea is excellent. I hope there is a manufacturer out there who will do this concept right. I would pay 3 times the money TC Helicon is asking for the unit if only it was truly a pro level unit. I have bought other TC Helicon stuff in the past and found it to be very good. I was let down by this unit. I think they were trying too hard to keep the cost down. Give me quality and charge if you have to, but don’t waste my time with gimmicky toys. I use a zoom g7.1ut midi’d up to a voice Digitech Vocalist Live Pro Vocal Harmony Processor. I get pro guitar sounds, with studio quality vocals and harmonies, with the click of a user program from the zoom. Sorry TC Helicon, I’ll wait when you get it right, or until someone builds something better. Nice idea tho. Michael Gant.

Is it my imagination, or does the Voicelive 3 seem to sound a bit thinner, and seem to have less sonic depth than the Voicetone Harmony G-XT. Almost as if the G-XT is a bit more "analog"?

I agree. I used to have the voicelivetouch2 and I didn't get to tweak around as much as I did with vl3. But I managed to balance the input eq by pulling up the mid frequency and lowering the hig freq values. I decided to run vl3 on stereo outs, all into a mini mixer and control frequencies there as well. the mixer comes in really handy for live performances for you to immediately cut when feedbacking.

001mladen There's definitely a lot of flexibility in VL3 and the integrated nature of vocal/guitar/looping can be really powerful. Hi -- I purchased the VL3 mainly for vocal effects, but I also play guitar, and unfortunately I had to get rid of my main amp, which was a Mesa Boogie Mark V. I am a big John Petrucci / Dream Theater fan, hence the Mark V -- anyway, I have been fooling around with the guitar presets for the VL3 and I don't mean to criticize, but the ones that it comes with absolutely suck compared to software models like Guitar Rig and Amplitube. With those software packages I can at least get something that is *comparable* to my old Mark V -- modern metal distortion and lead crunch tones...but when I use the VL3 and I try to put something together it just ends up sounding awful. The "metal" presets it comes with are a joke -- the Metallica one (puppet master or something like that?) sounds absolutely ridiculous...So I have tried to just make my own and I end up making it sound even worse...which is unfortunate :| I get that most people who use the VL3 aren't going to use it to play metal or hard rock guitar -- I understand that, and like I said that's not even the reason I bought it; but I have to at least try to get something going here before I give up and spend thousands on an AxeFX from Fractal...so am I screwed here? Does anyone have a decent modern metal or rock preset that they can share with me? When I say modern metal / rock -- I don't mean like nu-metal from 2000's or hair bands from the 80s -- I mean something close to a Peavy 5150, Mesa Boogie Rectifier or Mark V. Please respond or contact me if you can help...Thanks in advance!

Hi TC Helicon, I was wanting to buy a Voicelive 3, but I read somewhere that you are close to releasing a Voicelive 4, is there an ETA? Then I also started looking for reviews of the VL3 and stumbled on negative feedback such as in this vid: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rcVylrhp27DdqoU.html first thought this to be a loner, but the comments below showed some evidence that you really have reliability issues. Did you manage to figure them out as what the root cause is (like for example bad power supply of any of the likes?) is this something that can be prevented, or is there something that people have to take care of? Hmm further reading taught me that extensive use may need some cleaning now and then: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pLp3nJud0dK0caM.html So I guess I should not worry all that much?

Tell ya what The t.c auto tune into the t.c tone pedal into the harmony pedal is the bomb drop the boogie man. If you can half way even sing those three pedals make u sound Amazing. Sometimes I switch putting the tone pedal b4 the auto tune pedal but man it opens up to where I cannot imagine playing guitar and not singing as well. And its a different brain wrinkle to learn to play and sing at the same time. Ive got a few vids up just recorded with a cell phone if your just a bedroom artist like me. Haha best 300 i ever spent. I really wanna get the reverb t.c. heliconn and have 4 pedals in my Mic chain. Just thru a 70 dollar powered speaker. I think TCH would be better served demonstrating how a solo player can use your tools to ENHANCE a performance. The way you typically demo your stuff is like a toy. If I walked in to some joint and a guy was using it like your demo, I would walk right back out. I understand you want to show what it can do, but it is so way over the top.

It's a tricky balance for sure. When doing the "Closer Look" videos, they're much more of a tutorial than a demo. We need to show the full range of sounds and effect blocks. Most of the time in performance we use things much more sparingly. We try to show that in the preset-showcase type videos or in the launch video.

One short video for acoustic guitars??? people that use VL3 use to sing with acoustic guitars most of them.. But is not true that TC care on that item or is important for them, not true because "TC" don't set by start in VL3 a bunch of good acoustic guitar factory presets... And only electric guitar videos are shown, few too, but only one or two about acoustics guitars in all internet, WHY we have to starve to voicesupport to get bodyrez, very difficult office work!! sometimes change files adjustments to fit back in vl3.. please colleges take care of this vl3, is a good sound stuff, lots of facilities for performance artists, yes, but nothing so good for acoustic guitar, at least yet, and why they don't give a bunch of acoustic guitar sounds on factory presets? why? even though this guys know that people that sing most of them use acoustic guitars ... but they concentrate on electric guitar and they know that singers of vl3 use more the acoustic guitars than electrics, that's why don't trust so much TC now, they make few videos with superficial scope, we would think, like with no heart like robots, indeed they play this very nice covers like robots on a late show, like without heart, smiling like sellers, giving poor information, they want to show off, so silly, they remember me the medical doctors who work on big pharmaceutical laboratories, they are not part of you musician!! they are musicians of the market, not with you, the information they give is not enough, petty, people is starving to know more of Vl3, LOOK INTERNET BLOGS. On TC they even don't tell us that few weeks more they have a new VL3 release on market, so to wait few days more because they are going to have release of the newe extreme vl3 on market,, announcement zero. Is not fair.
