TCL C735 4K TV review (EU market) - a well-rounded mid-range TV for movies and gaming

This is the review of TCL Europe's C735 TV in 55-in screen size. The testing was done on the version with Google TV interface (Android TV 11) with software version V8-T615T03-LF1V462.000346.
Correction/additional info: HDMI port no.4 has eARC support, so it is according to HDMI 2.1 standard. Just note that since that port is limited to 4K60, if you connect your PS5/PC/XSX to the AVR and then AVR to the TV using HDMI port no.4 (to use ARC/eARC), you won't get 4K120 signal. For that you need to connect PS5/PC/XSX to HDMI ports no.1 or no.2.

@TVguyDarko Hey Darko, thanks for amazing and quite informative video, but I am wondering if it is worth getting TCL 65c735 vs Hisense 65u8h? Currently on our rocky Balkans TCL one can be gotten for around 750e and Highsense is around 1200e, and while I can understand that u8h is newer one with Rthings recommending it as the good mid range TV, I am still debating if it is worth the price increase? If you have any information on this, I would greatly appreciate your insight. TV would be mainly used for gaming (PS5) and streaming content such as Netflix, HBO, Plex etc

It's also good to mention that 55inch and above models have 144hz refresh rate, but 50inch have 120 refresh rate.

Hello. Just figured out how to enable 144Hz and VRR on PC, but, when VRR is enabled, I get some sort of flickering and inverse ghosting. I tried different settings on TV, HDR ON/OFF, but its still happening. When I disable VRR they go away.

I have noticed that if i enable vrr especially with 60hz on my Xbox series x it have extreme ghosting. At 120hz vrr it's better but still noticeable. Without vrr enabled it's ok. Had you any issue?

I am thinking of buying the 55inch version mainly for movies and Gaming(Ps5). I'll put the Led in bedroom which is quite small. Is this tv good for gaming and watching movies? Hi Darko. I have the 75in c735. How does Chromecasting work in this model ? The TV is setup using the "basic TV" option. My phone's Google HOME app is unable to locate the TCL as a device ( both phone and TV are in the same wifi) . What am I missing ? Appreciate the help

Hi from Serbia, I see that your name is Darko, but I will still post a comment in English since it may help someone else too. So I connected the TV and everything works smooth and well. I then connected my PS5 but for some reason the picture looks dull, yellow tint for some reason. I disabled HDR and it still looks that way, I tried looking for other options but couldn't fix it. My ps3 looks fine on it, no yellow tint, just on the ps5. Please advise me on what to do Thanks for the amazing videos and well done reviews on budget hardware!

I can't stress this enough: please be careful, the 50" (and lower) models only have 60hz. I discovered that after ordering it from Amazon and had to send it back, now I'm waiting on the 55" one. Amazon had the same product picture for the 50' and 55'+ models, saying that it had 144hz so I was misled.

After last SW upgrade, 3 days ago (16.01) my TV has some problems. When I turn it OFF and than ON, picture is grey and full of artefacts. I need to disconnect/connect power cord and than turn it on to get normal picture. I now turned off Fast Boot in options so that I don't mess with plug cord, but now TV turn ON takes more than a minute. Is there anybody have same issue?

Odlična recenzija imenjače. Molim te reci mi jel vredi uzimati ovaj tv za gledanje kablovske kakav je upscaling, za gledanje filmova sa torrenta? Imam ps4 tako da na njemu nmg pikati 120hz, no to mi nije bitno. U gigatronu je sa popustom 20% bi me izašlo 72000 dinara. Hvala

Hvala imenjače! Svakako je ovo dobar TV, još ga uvijek koristim u dnevnoj sobi za sve, od gledanja filmova i serija pa do igranja. Glavne poteškoće su s Google TV-om koji u nekim segmentima ne radi idealno, no sama kvaliteta slike je stvarno dobra. Za gledanje filmova bi i C635 ili C645 poslužio, no ako planiraš gledati i sport onda C735 ipak ima prednost.

Pozdrav - Hisense ima svakako bolji HDR i vecu svjetlinu, no C735 je noviji i prije bih njega odabrao iako nema tako dobar HDR.

Just wanted to ask one question as this is my first TV ever with 4K and HDR support. I have a PS4 Pro. If I calibrate it for SDR and after I open an HDR game and calibrate it for HDR, will it switch between these two calibrations depending on content or there can only be one calibration?

I bought this TV just before the last World Cup in Qatar, I got a 65 inch for half price in the black friday sales and I have to say that I've been super happy with it. I also still have a PS4 Pro and I'm playing re4 remake right now and it's playing very well in 4k, so much so that I'm thinking of waiting until the PS5 Pro eventually comes out because my PS4 Pro on this TV is performing brilliantly! I went from a old Sony KDL-40CX523 which was a great TV in it's time and 1080p to this beast of a gaming TV, and for the price I think it must be hard to beat!

I haven't seen any blooming that would stand out from what is typical on LCD TVs in this (and higher) price category. There is no ATSC tuner, this is EU model.

Thank you for this review. I've bought the 65C735. Great TV overall but the brightest variation in Dolby Vision is quite a niddle in the eye. I've read it's quite a common issue.

@@iq-killua1103 yes. Dolby vison fluctuates the brightest of the panel depending on the scene. If you are watching a movie with a sequence of dark/bright scenes the entire luminosity of the panel will fluctuate according to what you're watching. One more thing. If you are sensitive to flicker this tv is not for you. It has a very high pwm flicker, especially if you turn down the brightness, that strains the eyes. So does the C835.

Hi, I primarily watch TV/movies/streaming/sports broadcast at about 2,7 m distance and don't have any gaming console. I am on the fence if I should get the TCL65735, the 55C835, the Hisense 65U7H or the 55U8H, which all cost around 800€ at 65". I would be grateful for your professional input :)

Hey Marc, 55C835 is definitely the best in terms of picture quality, so that's the model I would recommend (also considering your seating distance).

Ako sam dobro procitao i razumeo, HDMI 1 port sa podrskom za 144hz nije resenje za VRR za PS5 ili XSX (S) jer konzole podrzavaju do 120hz. Tako da HDMI port 2 je jedini koji odgovara za vrr performance modove, bilo da je 120 ili 40fps (gde imamo divide)?

I read somewhere this TV maxes at 300 nits, which doesn’t sound great for HDR streaming. If you can measure this, is it true on the 55” and is HDR streaming good looking enough to get past the lack of brightness? Or should I get the C835 instead? In store the blacks looked great but the amount of features that extra $200 gets sound too good to pass on.

i have c728 2021 version, i use it mainly with my pc with rtx 3080, but i use it for Netflix and watching movies too,, the issue is with Dolby vision and hdr it's so dark, like u can't see anything except if u changed black levels and gamma, even at night when it's pitch black. but am still satisfied with the performance in gaming and just decrease black levels on movies which will not look like her anymore

@@arnolda7150 its not bad by all means, when i increase black levels and decrease gamma it looks good, but thats my experience with c728 not c735. then one more issue my tv came with the power button not attached to the back of the tv from factory, i had to disassemble it and fix it myself

@@TVguyDarko E kupio sam vec i za SDR i za HDR. Bas sam uzeo da podesavam. Sve je super detaljno objasnjeno, jos nisam samo probao ovo zadnje za fajlove na usb i HDR podesavanja. Za moj ukus sam jedino brightness malo vise povecao i gama na 1. Slika je stvarno realna, nije fake sa nabudzenim bojama i ostalim, kad gledam neki video dozivljaj je kao da sam tamo hehe. Jedino sto me zeza malo je sto mi ne prebaciva sam mod slike, npr koristim PS5 onda udjem na TV / YT ili Netflix i ostane mi Game mod dok ne kliknem podesavanja i tek onda prebaci sam, a jos forsira uvjek Vivid a ne Movie. Inace ovaj C635 model nema u Game picture mode onu opciju Apply all inputs / current input. Pa mozda bas zbog toga zeza. Nadam se da ce srediti updejtima, ako ih bude uopste 😁 Hvala ti 👍

Hello, coming from a P60 and looking at this or the 631, do they have the same issue as the p60 seems to have to this day with what I would describe it as "Global Dimming"? Where if it is a dark scene the whole screen goes to the lowest brightness making subtitles hard to read, and jumping back to full brightness when the scene goes to a brighter one. Having done research on this problem on the P60 seems like many people experience it and it is not a thing you can turn off it seems to be bugged. Very annoying. Also some UI questions: Issues such as Chromecasting videos from 3rd party sources (dailymotion, or some random video hosts *cough illegal streams*) gets stuck on the Chromecast logo forver, no amount of reinstalling or clearing cache fixes this either. KZfaq gets stuck sometimes aswell when casting, needing a reboot. TV taking really long times to boot up, and quick boot option not working update after update, etc. Have you experienced any of these UI bugs with the new unit? Hvala puno :)

at least on a p6046 this problem was fixed in firmware a long time ago. check your firmware version, v574 should be the latest

Hello - new models do not have issue with global dimming except in Dolby Vision content where brightness can jump depending on the scene brightness. In any case experience is better than on Samsung 2022 TVs that I've tested and am testing now where global dimming in dark scenes is distracting. Related to UI, new models boot fast and there are not issues with the stability. Once in a 6 months you can restart it properly (unplug from power or select Reboot options from the menus) to keep things running smoothly. Related to casting, I'm not using it so I cannot confirm, but all the streaming apps work fine.

It still has the res problem, but if you turn off vrr the problem goes away (using ps5 as source), hopefully they can fix it in a firmware! Edit think I have ALLM off too

C735 je provjereno dobar, samo napomena da 43 i 50” modeli imaju 60 Hz, a ne 120 Hz ekran kao 55” i veci modeli.

Pozdrav Darko. Hvala puno na videima. Gledam ponude za 43" uglavnom za filmove/serije. Trenutno izmedu Samsunga Q60B, TCL 43C735 i TCL43C635. Svi su 4k/60 na ovoj dijagonali nazalost, a TCL imaju Direct LED, Samsung Edge LED. Razlika je +- 400 kuna. Nema gaminga. Mislim da je C735 najbolji izbor. Ima bolji CPU u odnosu na C635, i malo jaci panel (navodno 98 zona FALD). Mislim da je peak brightness slican Q60B, mozda malo losiji, ali ima Direct LED pa pretpostavljam da su crne malo bolje. Sto mislis? Da li se isplati 400 kn vise od C635?

ista dilema na istoj dijagonali. na kraju kupio C735. slika je super ALI, odaziv je katastrofa od kad klikem na daljinskom pa dok se ta akcija ne odradi na TVu. nekada mu treba i po 5 sekundi. nisam nista nasao u postavkama. dosao je s dva daljinska koristim RC902V FUR1.

Hi Danijel - yes, that seem to be the case. Only 55 inch and bigger models have it (even though displayspecifications.com state that is has 144 Hz panel).

Hey - your TV will upscale everything to its native UHD 4K resolution - if you see 1080p in the info bar that is the resolution which is coming to the TV.

Hi - C735 is great and I recommend it even though it is not 2023 model. C646 has a 60 Hz panel while C735 has 120 Hz (important for sport / gaming).

I bought c635 and also has hdmi 2.1 and DLG so if you connect ps5 or xbox series x tv automaticly goes from 60hz to 120hz Only i cant activate voice control. I done it all what is needed but it just doesnt work.

Pozdrav Goran! P serija je povoljnija od C serije zbog izostanka Quantum dot tehnologije za prikaz širokog raspona boja. Također se radi o 60 Hz modelu, znači i većem zamućenju prikaza u pokretu.
