I agree wholeheartedly. I also preferred Robert Osborne's knowledgeable but more laid-back style to that of Ben Mankiewicz, who is prone to make snide and politically-infused (from the left) comments in his wrap segments for Turner Classic Movies (TCM) presentations. Incidentally, Mr. Osborne had been a protégé of Lucile Ball's, was one of her Desilu Workshop troupe, whom Miss Ball mentored in what was a kind of "Actor's Studio" for television acting. But Mr. Osborne transitioned from being a rather low-profile actor into a full-fledged broadcaster and journalist who was respected in the broadcasting and film communities and by the press (for his column and reporting in "The Hollywood Reporter" for some four decades), in addition to his having had the loyal adoration of The Movie Channel and TCM viewers for over three decades. I also enjoyed Bob Dorian and Nick Clooney, the latter singer-actress Rosemary Clooney's brother, and actor George's father, on American Classic Movies (AMC), when that movie network still had its previous format of showing only vintage films similar to TCM. But AMC hasn't presented only a classic films format for many years now.

The movie itself is way more nuanced than that though. The characters intentions were made to be ambiguous

The only time I’ve seen Ben “wax about social issues” is when the movie he’s talking about has social issues in them. Especially films that are progressive in the first place, like Gentleman’s Agreement
