I taught adults when I was working, but now I’ve been homebound/virtual schooling a pretty sick 13 year old the past year . At first it was intimidating and now I LOVE it . Once you carve into the mind of a teen , there is SO MUCH to tap into .I can see how much you love it and I get it .

Thanks so much for sharing this. It's so overwhelming, exhausting and solitary to teach this way. We are wrapping up our first quarter and my 6th graders and I are persevering, but I realized that my days in school with kids and colleagues feeds my usually introverted soul. We just got word that we'll be remote until the end of January...

Enjoyed this and many similarities with my own 8th grade classes. Also not giving half credit for late stuff anymore. So we did three weeks remote, three weeks hybrid and now we are back online. It’s been interesting.

Thank you for sharing this! I can see how much you miss your students being in class, yet it is wonderful how you are still connecting with them so well :) I have an off topic question, do you exercise? when do you fit it in? is it a usual routine or different types of exercises? Thank you for posting regularly!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing. I always love to see how other teachers teach. But I do wonder how large states like Texas and California can reopen safety? The schools there are so large. 32 students in a class is a lot in normal times and downright scary in a pandemic. Good luck!

I lost my keys when school started, I feel that... but Snowball mics are great! I don't have one, but I have used them with great success. I have 10 of those "Can you hear me" conversations every day at this point. I've been using a bluetooth headset which is great because I move around a lot.

I wish I just had 2 grade levels and 2 content areas to teach. I teach our district’s 5th-8th grade virtual students all 4 content areas, along with being the ESL and Indian Education Director. The amount of work is mind blowing and with federal programs there can be no mistakes and deadlines are firm. It is almost maddening to listen to my colleagues complain about the 1 core subject they have the luxury of teaching this year.

Just curious how you set up your google classroom - we're pretty far in so I don't know if it would be worth it to change but I organize mine by week and I have the most recent week at the top so it's easy to find and they don't have to scroll down so far. Food for thought! (:

Hello! I am sending in my application to get certified to teach. I have some questions that I hope you can answer. A). Could I apply directly as an online public school teacher or is this something that public schools do on a case by case basis? B). Is it possible to teach from home with a 1 1/2 year old in the home? Preschool doesn't start until at least 3 years old. I'm not sure I can wait financially or mentally to be working again!

What is your missing assignments sheet? I’m curious of what it entails. I’ve been brainstorming on how to make them more aware of of due dates without docking down their grades for late work (my dept doesn’t really do that).

@@toocoolformiddleschoolblog I got my BA in theatre and now I’m at Pepperdine in their MA/credential program! And a lot of people in my program have undergrad degrees that have nothing to do with teaching. A lot of them have also come from other industries and are switching careers. I’m currently student teaching 8th grade English... online.... tough, but every day is different! I love the way you teach and your philosophies of teaching 😍

Im teaching virtually from home. 8th grade ELA! It is so hard to get students engaged. Do you have issues with students attending the live sessions? I feel like I'm just trying to survive, but constantly trying to make connections with students. We had "lunch bunch" today where students could come into an open session and have "lunch" or "chat" time with classmates that aren't in their class.

I’m just curious as a student teacher from a mandatory hybrid teaching state; if you’re online for covid safety, why are they having teachers going into the school to teach? Have you wanted to just teach from the comfort of home?
