If yes, tell us about your experience and especially tell us your favorite if you've used both! If no, tell us what you've used to teach your child to read! ⬇

I used this 100 EL book with four kids. It's so simple and easy to start teaching with and especially great for first time homeschooling parents. I've learned after my first two kids that you have to transition from this book to phonics around lesson 30-50 as the lessons start getting too long and the book simply does a poor job of teaching phonics so there is a tough transition from this book once it switches to a “normal” bold font if you try to stick it out. I now introduce Alpha-Phonics with this book around lesson 15 and drop 100 EL completely around lesson 40 and move to Alpha-Phonics, McGuffey's (and now Swords & Butterflies). P.S. I looked at the timing and thought, how did you get through a lesson in the 50s in just 7 minutes? Those took a painful 40+ minutes with my first two kids. I thought it was a miracle. Then I saw the editing 😂.

Yes, I edited all of the lessons, or else this video would've been more like 2 hours. 😅

Jazakhillaahu khairaa this was helpful. We've used 100 EL. It does get pretty boring lol. Have you also used All about spelling with your children? What are your thoughts on that?

Wa-iyaki. Alhemdulilah. Yes, we've used All About Spelling. I think it's a great program, but you'd have to try it out as every child is different.

Oh! This video reminded me of kindergarten. I would get nauseous every time I heard or read the name "Pam" in our reading lessons. It was a rough period of time. I grew out of it, alhamdulillah. They couldn't stay on 3 letter words forever The only word I couldn't read in the kindergarten card deck was, "umbrella" and I was disappointed. She didn't like the way I wrote the lower case letter "e." Don't know how long I spent on that one letter. To this day, I do not like writing it. I remember in 1st grade I wanted to be in the advanced reading class. One day I was listening in on them while doing whatever the thing was and I noticed Logan read without pausing in between every word. That might have been the first time I noticed anyone read smoothly. Next time in my reading group, I started reading like Logan. It worked, I got praised and promoted to the advanced group. Unrelated to reading...we had a reward jar in first grade and I REALLY wanted that pizza party. One day we were lining up to go inside after recess and she said if we lined up nice and quiet, she would put marbles in the reward jar. I tried to get the kids around me to be quiet. Pretty sure I made the shhhh sound. Next thing I know, this girl called out that I said a bad word. I was confused and offended, but I got in trouble anyway. I still don't get how shhhh is a bad word. Looking back, I see a little girl that was somewhat outgoing, but I lost that along the way. I learned "Stay quiet and keep to yourself."

I've used AAR with my son- the word list section was a bit lengthy. He got bored with that sometimes, but we loved it otherwise. I was just curious if 100 easy lessons would be faster for my next child since there are 4 levels with AAR.

Yes, while 100EL is faster in a sense, I didn't find that we needed to use the other levels of AAR. I stopped once they learned to read.
