Teacher stunned when Secret Santa gives her a car and the entire school gives her a standing ovation

The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local man gift $500,000 this holiday season! Secret Santa is a real person who wants to remain anonymous and wants to help as many people as he can.
We will be surprising deserving people and families every day from now until Christmas with gifts unique to their circumstances.
Bonnie Warne has taught at South Fremont High School for over 30 years. She is always the first one there in the morning and the last one to leave in the evening. She is constantly writing grants to buy books or other materials and she is passionate about helping the children with their education.
Bonnie always puts others before herself. She buys clothes and food for kids in her neighborhood, school supplies for her students that can’t afford to buy their own and at Christmas she gathers donations to buy things like warm coats and gloves for children in need. She will go without before she will allow a child to go without.
Bonnie has been volunteering at the Four Paws Pet Adoptions in Rexburg every Saturday for at least eight years. She sometimes brings her elderly mom when she comes to care for the cats or the neighbor kids that need extra care and attention.
Bonnie’s car is in tough shape. She has had it since 1994 and it is constantly breaking down. The last repairs had her with no vehicle for two weeks. A friend loaned her a car while hers was being repaired so she could get to school and check on her mom.
Secret Santa thought Bonnie would be the perfect person to receive an early Christmas gift. The East Idaho News elves surprised her during a school assembly and her reaction was unforgettable. Watch the video above to see what happened!

Being a school teacher is one of the hardest, most underpaid, most unappreciated professions there is! Many teachers today last only 5 to 7 years. I’m so glad this teacher was recognized!

Thanks for the kind words, and yes, when I was in college, my professor told us about half of all teachers quit within five years, for a number of reasons, many of which you mentioned. Though, from my own experience, one of the biggest factors, that isn't usually talked about, is lack of support/mentoring for new staff. I genuinely feel like that percentage could be drastically cut if programs addressing it were automatically in place, instead of being something you had to seek out yourself. I've made it about 12 years, but while I love what I do, I'd be lying if I said I don't consider walking away on a regular basis. I knew what I was getting into, so no pity party here, but unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily make the rough days any less so.

She goes above and beyond by constantly seeking out grants and other funding for the school which wont be an easy process. She shouldn't need to do that but she does. Add dealing with troubled kids which would be stressful as well as planning out the years education and making sure the kids get their grades. Doing that for over 30 years would definitely take its toll on her body and mind. No wonder she was sitting down. She deserves it at the very least.

Teachers don't get paid a great deal, you know Victoria. If they show up to work every day, it's NOT for the paycheck. It's because they believe in the importance of education. It's not the type of job where the paycheck alone will motivate you. Truth be told, they are not paid much more than people in retail are paid. Show some respect.

It’s just from my personal experiences it seemed like some teachers (especially when I was in high school) only cared about getting you to the point where you could move to the next grade. They didn’t care if you actually learned anything or actually took anything away from the class they only cared about getting through the day and that was it. Maybe you see things different and that’s fine. Plus I wasn’t referring to every teacher.. there’s plenty of good teachers who mainly do their jobs to help students succeed in more ways than one.. I didn’t always see that growing up. Don’t tell me to show some respect when I do. I was simply pointing out from personal experience.. you don’t know my personal experience so show some respect.

But just imagine if teachers were paid a healthy livable wage (so she could buy her own car) and schools were well founded (so she didn’t feel the need to get that check back to the school). I'm an educator at a public school. I get paid enough, and Im a proponent of banning tenure. We don't need more, the kids do. She knows that, and its why she's being celebrated. The more lucrative teaching becomes, the more people who don't have their heart in it will join the workforce

@@jordantiburcio4541 I used to teach in a public school. Though I loved it, I left because I simply couldn’t pay my bills. Now I work as a trainer for a corporation and make twice as money as I would have ever made as a teacher. Teachers deserve more pay. Schools need more funding.
