I have a student who's incredibly detail oriented and will hyperfixate on mistakes and be unable to move on until it's addressed. And I mean there was a typo on an assignment, a word spelled two different ways on the paper, which no one in three years had noticed (myself included) and this kid saw it and did not do any work for a good 15 minutes because he was staring at the mistake. When I noticed he was taking a crazy amount of time I checked in on him and he pointed out the mistake so I told him what was correct and then he nodded, fixed it, and went right back to working. That happened a few more times with it stopping him in his tracks for a while until I told him "You notice details more than me, I will never be mad at you for pointing out a mistake, so please, as soon as you notice let me know so I can fix it" This is my second year with this kid and it's so much better now

In a different country but when I was at school usual classes were 25-35, the whole way through. Now 5-10 years later there's "open plan learning" so 2-3 teachers and 100 students. Absolutely crazy

I'm with Tell on the "Favorite" students' criteria- there were so many times I had students that would make me lose it with laughter at times that I was beyond grateful to be wearing a mask. Occasionally they'd catch on to me and be like "Oh she's mad, oh she's really upset- look her face is red!" and then one class (who generally didn't cause any issues) realized I was struggling not to laugh (I ended up treating it as a reward because the next day I brought in a bunch of Kid Friendly Joke books and Madlib books and if they finished their work early they could look through those- that was a fun sub job)

Mrs. Woolly, you don’t need to rush having kids, do it when you’re ready.

Heck, if you decide you don’t want kids, you don’t have to have them. I know people that decided that decided they didn’t want kids and others would ask them constantly, since they got married, when they were going to get married. They finally told people, they weren’t having kids.

We don’t have teachers on recess or lunch duty, we had separate yard duties. However I would play checkers because we had checker boards at recess, or I would read in the library if it was open because it was air conditioned. However I have always liked hanging out with adults more than kids and I think it is because since I was 5 I was hanging out with teenagers. Literally adults some of them. Some of my best friends were 10-13 years older than me. I only hung out with people my own age in school. Thank you competitive dance for making me older than I am. You know what, I just figured it out, that is why people think I am older than I am.

I just retired from teaching high school after 27 years. One thing I discovered many years ago is that if I made a mistake somehow (spelling, a dumb adding error, etc.) the WORST thing to do is get upset when called out on it...instead, making a joke is the best way out. I would adopt a radio announcer voice and say, "The District is now taking applications for much. Better. Teachers." Totally defused the situation and, I think, helped them see me as a "real" person. They don't respect teachers who get huffy if called out on an error. And, spelling mistakes...when I would be tired near the end of the day, my #1 word to misspell was, get this: "of." I would write "ov". Good grief.

I just recently found you guys. Listening to you is fun, but makes me feel sooooo old. I'm in my mid 40s and I realized the other night that I was old enough to be some of y'all's mother. And that seems weird to me because my son started his freshman year in high school this year. When he was in elementary I volunteered in his class once a week, but didn't hover him. I have deep respect for teachers. They don't get enough praise and they get crapped on way too much. The world needs more teachers like you. And you need a place to vent.

I could never teach without a lesson plan. I am not comfortable in front of crowds, though that has gone down in after years in the business, so one way to manage that anxiety is to prepare well beforehand. As long as I have a plan, even if I have to improvise part way through due to some mishap, I’ll be ok. That plan usually involves some practice of what to say as well, again, to reduce anxiety while in front of the room.

Yes I mean no offense to the new teachers they've had on as guest hosts but it's very strange B & R are gone w no explanation, and R has commented on a few posts on this channel saying she won't ever be back but never says the reason... I don't think it was amicable for her. B still follows the podcast Instagram account but R doesn't.

Kinda sounds like the kid who says you owe him money has a point ngl. Sounds like a kid way to bring up they weren’t comfortable being posted (whether it’s just their voice or not) on a unsanctioned unassociated with the school district social media account that for sure fall outside of the forms parent’s sign okaying pictures etc for brochures/school websites.
