Square duct hanging tip: drop your hanger strap first, measure off floor up to where bottom of duct will be then make a mark on the strap. Cut it off a couple of inches below the mark and bend the strap at the mark. Do the same thing on the other side with another strap to make a "cradle" for the duct to sit on. Do this all the way down the length of the ductwork. Then all you have to do is bang a couple sections together and lift it into the cradle. Screw the straps to the bottom of the duct to secure. Makes throwing ductwork up so freaking fast and looks pro AF

Basements are far from the norm in Tennessee, mainly slabs & crawlspaces .So it’s understandable their expertise & experience is probably limited at best for such installations. Like you said el, make the cradle with hanging straps first and all you have to do is set the ductwork in place, you can even do it by yourself using a dog chain or motorcycle tiedown strap. I’m not so sure he size the duck work properly either, looks like he could have a static pressure problem to me.

I love following your channel because you do such clean work as I would do myself. A lot of people think because they’re going to be putting that behind a soffit that it’s out of sight out of mine but the real ones take the time and seal it up and make sure that when it’s out of sight out of mine it’s all sealed up and installed correctly

I was wondering why you were insulting your inside duck if it’s in a treated or conditioned space ? Here in Canada you need to have it sealed with tape or mastic but not insulated unless your going through a unconditioned space such as a attic or crawl space . Love the very clean work and explanations your work is outstanding and very inspirational.
@tpatcher63
@tpatcher63 2 жыл бұрын
Technically and by code you don’t need to wrap in a conditioned space. But by experience with the high humidity in the south your supply duct will sweat in the summer. And if the home owner is going to drywall the ceiling I guarantee your going to have a call back on water marks on all that pretty drywall. Probably wrapped the return to have a consistent look 🤔

As far as taping the metal ductwork or even fiberglass ductwork it is best to use a heat gun or I usually just use a Turbo Torch and just run the flame down at real quick being careful obviously and like I said use the heat gun if somebody's not that responsible or you're in a space that you can't use flame with that being said when you do that that tape becomes part of that metal or fiberglass it will not come off and if it does it's taken the fiberglass with it and metal wise it's almost impossible to pull off it just heats up the blue and adheres to it in a way that you will not ever do it again without using heat. I've had a trunk line that was over 30 ft long that I can pick up at one end and just hold it and that sucker did not Sag a bit or nothing.. so like I said it is well worth the little bit of time it takes to heat it up and then squeegee it!

Is the basement not a conditioned space? You ran a beautiful trunk line before pinching the flex runs at the termination of the trunk leaving little to no room for back pressure. Here in Pittsburgh, taping seams of 8”-24” x 8”-12” is absolutely ridiculous and not code despite some of the tightest regulations outside of California

Yep, especially with the funky connection at the main trunk to equipment! 90 the flex into a dead end shot at the rectangular duct? Come on man! Good job but i feel like Ducting in the US seems very behind compared to the UK. Saying that tho you’re probably cheaper as you made the duct from scratch where as we would get the duct pre fabricated where its already sealed no need to put tape and sealant all over the pieces. Also we connect duct with 20mm flanged joints rather than what looks like you insert them into eachother

Got to teach these kids right or they won't last. Always hang your straps first than put up your duct. Why not have made reducer fittings at the end to be able to put those flex lines straight in? I hate how people use so much flex, they're suppose to use 3' maximum!! That, panning and metal tape on dirty metal make the whole industry look bad. At least the young kid is learning some of the right procedures... Leaving the flex feeding it kinda sucks, would've like to seen that hard duct continue all the way to the unit with a canvas at the end. So much unnecessary turbulence feeding trunk lines with flex.

That tape wouldn’t work in Florida. Neither would that bubble wrap crap.
@frankpires7428
@frankpires7428 2 жыл бұрын
No disrespect but sheet metal is a real skill and not taught well anymore. Bubble wrap has no R valve if there is no air space between the duct and the wrap, you need spacers. That transition from round to square duct is killing air follow. You should have gotten someone to make you (2) square to round fittings. A really tin knocker would have that duct hung by the time you dragged in the lift and set it up and packed it up again.
