I would like to add that I have watched many series and have subscribed to many you tube channels on the same subject and you are by far the most succinct instructor of them all. They either talk to much causing me to loose interest, are not very knowledgeable or speak far above my knowledge of tea. Thank you so much for your brief yet extremely informative lessons. I have only watched three of your videos but I have empowered me so much!

What a great series of videos; thank you So Han. This one was particularly interesting, because I've not seen anyone else covering this topic, one that is crucial. When I clean my tea set, I also like to clean the cháfāng (水方) and dry the shuǐhú (水壶). A couple of years ago my wife gave me a beautiful purple clay cháfāng that matches my Yixing teapot. Unfortunately, one evening I was lazy and didn't clean it and the next time I used it, water had dried up and the interior was stained with calcium deposits; vinegar was the only thing I found to restore its beauty. Although my my shuǐhú is black enameled steel, the manufacturer suggests drying it after each use; I carefully dry it inside and out to ensure it doesn't rust.

Thanks for emphasizing the importance of cleaning and cleaning properly. I'm relatively new to Gong Fu Cha 🍵, and I've only ever done it solo. Up until recently, I've been lazy about properly cleaning my teaware. I've started putting as much effort into the cleaning process as I do the rest of the session, and it has made such a massive difference. The sessions are much more enjoyable, and I always come back to a beautiful and clean set. I've even started to somewhat enjoy the cleaning process.

I understand the process of sanitizing with boiling water, but does the health code not require you to wash with soap in your business? I found you through the modern rogue and am definitely enjoying the instruction. As someone who's only ever had bagged tea, I'll definitely have to check out loose leaf at some point.

Yes at the teahouse, employees are required to wash wares with soap and follow all other health code standards. But at home, this is usually how we do it. 🐱

Dude that chapan (tea tray) looks freakin awesome. What's it made from? Sounds like iron or stone. From what can be seen, it's absolutely gorgeous. Hoping to see a video (later on) that has more info and/or more screentime. It's now 4 years at least since you made these vids so I imagine they're not readily available, or quite pricey. Still, it is such a pleasure to see. Cheers

@@TeaHouseGhost Wicked (re stone Chapan), and I was referring to the chapan being pricey as it rightly should be. I would imagine it's crafted by hand (mostly). I have one that's carved (stone) and I love it, yet there's still something extra special about materials in their natural or raw state, or as close as possible for it to be fully useful. Gentle on the eye and soothing on the soul. Hmmm, got me wondering what the Chinese equivalent for 'Wabi-Sabi' is..... Glad to hear you're sitll creating videos. Thank you. Really. BTW that table is insane. Looks like most or all of the design/art/ornamental parts are mother of pearl. Love this series. Got two questions if you don't mind. For my yixing pot i rinse pretty thoroughly with water and let it air dry because I want to protect it from molds. Will the teapot "season" even though I rinse it thoroughly with water? 2. For my glass and porcelain ware I use dishsoap to avoid tea stains. Is this sacrilegious? I do want to treat my jingdezhen teaware with the respect it deserves so to speak. Can't wait for season 3. :D Many thanks!

First of all thank you for all your videos. I have started from teapot / clay and now watching from beginning. I agree with previous comments that you are great instructor and I found your videos very informative. I have 2 questions. 1. Cloth you are using is it any special cloth coming with Chinese name or any would do? Also I do understand that clay teapots are getting cleaned only outside after removing leaves and rinsing with water? 2. Is there any way to support your channel so more videos would keep coming?
@TeaHouseGhost
@TeaHouseGhost 6 жыл бұрын
kalefu by cloth, do you mean the napkin or the table cloth? The napkin is called a cha jin (茶巾) "tea cloth" and the table cloth is called a cha xi (茶席) "tea mat" 2.) We will be putting up a Kickstarter or something like that soon to help us fund a 2nd season!

Is there ever a concern about wearing the porcelain cups when you rotate them on top of each other? I am worried that the friction will induce micro scratches that will, over enough time, diminish the glaze of the porcelain cups.
@TeaHouseGhost
@TeaHouseGhost 6 ай бұрын
We have not noticed this as an issue, and we do this all the time at the tea house. That being said, it's a valid concern. But we haven't had issues and we put these cups through pretty rigorous use

I wished I had watch your video earlier on how to clean & put tea set to sleep.. my current (light grey color) stone clay teapot is stained with dark tea previously. Soap does not help… Any advice how can I remove the stain now?
@TeaHouseGhost
@TeaHouseGhost Жыл бұрын
In some cases, a patina forming on a tea pot is considered good as a sign of use (see our video about tea pots and the clay they're made of). So far the best tool I've found for fighting stains on my porcelain wares is the magic eraser (those white sponge things that I think arm and hammer make), but not sure how that would do on a clay tea pot. Maybe a paste of baking soda and water and gently scrub.

for yixing pot, is it ok to leave tea leaves and bit of tea in the pot and let it dry out? i usually let the leaves dry in my yixing and then take them out when they are dry since its difficult when wet, and I thought it would help the seasoning if you do not rinse it with boiling water. Is this correct or can this possibly be bad for the pot?
@TeaHouseGhost
@TeaHouseGhost Жыл бұрын
The main worry here would just be accidentally leaving the tea leaves in for too long and then mold growing inside of your pot. It's okay to let the leaves dry out in the pot for the space of maybe 12 to 24 hours. Generally for yixing wares, I like to clean them out thoroughly with hot water after each use. I don't think letting the leaves dry out inside the pot really does much for the seasoning - it's really just steeping tea in the pot and pouring tea on to the pot that are the best practices for yanging

My porcelain _gàiwǎn_ got a very subtle (barely visible) stain after making some _Shú Pǔ'ěr_ . I did clean it like the vid told me to, *and* used soap soon afterwards, but couldn't get it off completely. Are _Shú Pǔ'ěr_ stains hard to clean, and is there a good way to remove stains like this?
@TeaHouseGhost
@TeaHouseGhost 2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes dark teas will leave stains that don't come off with regular soap and water. For white porcelain wares, the solution I've found to work best are those magic eraser sponge things (I think Arm and Hammer makes them?). Just be careful not to scrape too hard.

You can if you like, but within tea culture, the stains that a teapet gains through use are considered a good thing. The stains are a sign of use, which is good, like you're caring for your tea pet by using it.
