I'd still prefer hearing him sick because it doesn't bother me, but I feel like there are more important things to worry about when it comes to AI.

Obviously they don’t communicate, They’ve already explained why and it’s because of accountability If they talked, i can guarantee Gabe would have confirmed Half-Life 3 multiple times in the past 2 decades Then that would create waves of confusion when nothing is delivered. So it’s better to just say nothing and deliver what you can. Same thing applies with updates

They do not see TF2 as the most valuable project to work on, and the last several times they tried to increase TF2's value, the results were disappointing, so no one wants to work solely on TF2. CounterStrike, Dota2, Steam Deck, VR, Steam as a platform/store front, etc. Valve has many projects that look far more valuable to the company. Valve could, and actually have hired collage students, and even Highschool age students, who looked promising. But Valves m.o. is to hire people that can bring the most perceived value to the company. If Valve were to hire anyone, they would not hire them for a specific project, but allow them to work on any project the wanted, as they do with all Valve employees. The closest they get is that they will hire people with skills that are useful for specific projects, and that person will likely want to work on those projects, but they are not required to work on anything specific, they are just required to work on something that brings value to the company, even if it's not the project they were brought on for initially. They do hire contractors to work on specific projects for a set period of time. This is what they did when the first #SaveTF2 happened. So to more directly address the suggestion, they could hire like 6 contractors to work on whatever Eric wanted, but it would a temporary thing, it would not last. And if they did hire people fully with the expectation that they would want to work on TF2, those people would likely not work exclusively on TF2, just as Eric does not work exclusively on TF2.

I wish one employee's high hopes for the game was enough for me to believe that this game is going anywhere but down, but if I were a bot owner then this is the exact news that would make me go all in. Utmost respect to Eric but he really doesn't have the power to fix a fraction of the pressing issues. I do hope the "agreement" that we or devs have heard nothing about goes well, and if it has anything to do with making on-platform alternatives to the base game then it's probably the most we could hope for in terms of keeping the game in a somewhat-updating and playable state (minus community servers)

Yeah, I left Casual for Community servers after yelling at Blu through my mic when they wouldn't kick their top scoring cheater or bots, while we on Red we're kicking all of our bots. I am not a toxic person normally, so when I allow a game to make me toxic, it's time to throw in the towel, and hope the game gets fixed.

hiring more people = more management = dont have the time to do more management. Hiring more people without super good supervision = not valve quality. Thats how you get things like Blizzard etc. Blizzard used to be amazing pre 2004

An important fact of game development is "throwing money to hire devs" isn't as simple as it seems. Everything about Valves development philosophy is about empowering individuals to decide what to do, and what to work on- That's not an easy system to hire into, on top of typical development issues (coordinations, philosophy, etc)

One of the writers claimed a while ago that if it never happened, he'd just reveal what the planned final issue's story would've been as a blog post. I really wish he'd make good on that and just tell us; sure, it's not as good as having a full-on actually finished comic, but it'd at least be better than leaving us on that cliffhanger for the rest of time. It's like how Epistle 3 went a long way towards giving people closure for the Half-Life series (at least until Alyx got everyone whipped up again and a follow-up to that still doesn't seem to be in the cards). If they can't do a full project, it would be better than nothing.

So write it yourself. It's just fiction. Anyone can do it.

Bot crisis is more complicated than "Valve stop being greedy and throw more money and people at it and it'll be fixed". Shounic covered it in 1 of his video. Also Valve can just shutdown TF2 if they don't make enough money, certain console port of TF2's servers already shutdown and other games in the orange box.

They have the man power but lack the motivation, Eric all but confirmed that. No one wants to work on TF2 because it's an old game and an old version of the source engine. The company culture also really bullies people into working on other games which doesn't help - this isn't anything new though, even when TF2 was under development. And since VALVE is just an indie studio with a lot of people, essentially, I doubt we'll ever see a major update for TF2 anytime soon - TF2 will be 20+ years old at this point before it gets the infamous Heavy update. It'd be nice if Valve contracted out small teams that worked more like a traditional studio to work on certain games or projects that are handled by a manager for that explicit purpose outside of their normal workflows.

People don't really understand even the biggest franchise have this issue. This is not a easy task.

a weapon like this, which is likely to make the rest of your team play differently due to how influential a medic is to those around him, will probably make the game feel a lot more positional and is overall DEFINITELY more vulnerable to demo and other power classes. Especially when regarding the shield that replaces traditional uber, you either have to be out of the bubble's relatively small radius before it disappears, or be a sitting duck and get blown up immediately. now that i give it some more thought, it seems kind of antithetical to actual classic tf2's design philosophy.@@peika8324

Valve already started hiring more contractors since the pandemic, I'm not sure why they can't just contract more people within the TF2 community and give them strict contracts as they can only do work for TF2 and not other projects.

Exactly, It's a bs excuse that they don't have enough people. Pay someone to do it. They are still making money off this game year after year. It's embarrassing for this great game and their company. A lot of people have their experience ruined

Because their requirements for hiring are extremely strict, you have to be really experienced in the industry.

They simply don't see any financial incentive to do so. It'll cost them money, even if it's a tiny amount compared to what they make in profits every year, and they believe it'll result in no substantial return.
