Жыл бұрын

In this week’s Team Never Quit episode, Marcus has a deep dive conversation with U.S. Air Force PJ, and combat rescue officer, Jonathan Harmon.NOTE: “PJ” (Air Force Pararescuemen) are the only DOD elite combat forces specifically organized, trained, equipped, and postured to conduct full spectrum Personnel Recovery (PR) to include both conventional and unconventional combat rescue operations.
Jonathan was instrumental in successfully locating Marcus in Afghanistan with the most miniscule of data which facilitated his subsequent rescue. Listen in to Jonathan’s fascinating details of all that it takes to bring our soldiers home.
In this episode you will hear:
• My Aunt was a WASP (Women’s Auxiliary Service Pilot). She flew aircraft across the Atlantic, and trained other pilots. They would test and assure that an aircraft was safe to fly. (10:06)
• I had absolutely no intention of joining the military. I was into skating & surfboarding. (16:28)
• I loved skydiving. I was with my peeps for the first time in my life. (23:23)
• [Red ants] get real pissed off when you do 8 counts on top of them. (29:57)
• [In Afghanistan rescue missions] you’re out there rescuing kids and village elders. You want to let them know that you stand shoulder to shoulder with them. You’re not gonna leave ‘em high and dry. (51:09)
• It wasn’t that I traded a life for a degree, but that how it felt. I promised myself that I would never allow my education get in the way of my job. (65:33)
• One of the best things we learned was that one of the best medicines, sometimes, is lead. (70:12)
• Most people don’t know that 1003 Victor became known as Iraqi Freedom. (75:42)
• I had the chance to coordinate about 1,000 rescue missions. Recovery missions as well as rescue missions. (76:05)
• Reintegration is the process that returns people with homer, helping them transition back from captivity or isolation, back to their units and families so they can become “value added.” (78:18)
• We’re seeing Post traumatic stress in epic proportions. (79:26)
• As a PJ, we focus on medical - combat medicine. (80:41)
• I can’t declare a personnel recovery event, because they’re not my forces. (91:38)
• It’s important to know that a report has to come through a channel that is bonafide. (91:47)
• [Operation Red Wings - After a series of signals and analysis, I thought] what I feel like is that I’ve got somebody on the run. And I’m really certain it’s an American, because of where they’re running and how they’re running. And it gave me a confidence factor that I had at least one survivor. [97:34)

The PJ community lost a legend this past month, FARRIOR, AARON D. (Bear) Silver Star Vietnam for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force on 5 October 1966. On that date, as a Pararescue Specialist on a HH-3E Rescue Helicopter, Sergeant Farrior proceeded to deep into hostile territory and was successful in recovering one of two American pilots who had bailed out of their disabled aircraft. Disregarding his own safety, Sergeant Farrior voluntarily flew through heavy automatic weapons and small arms fire in order to reach the injured survivor before the hostile forces could capture him.

The water-confidence training alone in the PJ pipeline takes out 8-9 out of 10 guys. The course he was referencing to when he said "Indoc" or PJ Indoctrination Course over decades had a wash out rate of literally 70-90%. There have been classes that started out with 100+ men and by the end of the 10 week course were left with

Marcus, you are a great storyteller, but you tend to want to take over conversations. It's hard to listen when you are constantly interrupting people. Just some constructive criticism. Keep up the great work with the podcast. You guys are getting some great guests.

There are some other things even back than that an operator can do to get some attention. Unfortunately, Jonathan is not able to speak of the tools he can use to also verify if that is an American, more importantly verify more than that which is taught at one of the schools which is about as far as I can say. But one thing that is common knowledge and really cool is the fact he got a message to an elder or Gulab did and he got to the rescue ODA and PJs. It was only a few words but at least they were led back the village.

This is your favorite topic just fyi. Is Da-ting illegal? Because it should be (I assume it's a LE - Gestapo type activity). It amazes me what they can get away with these days and strangers will blindly believe whatever they're told (And then do all sorts of awful things), Like I wonder if there is supposed to be oversight. - 24/7/365 Harassment for years - D.E.W.'s (Havana Syndrome) - Chemical/Biological weapons I've even heard nuclear material was used - Sleep deprivation - Food deprivation - Interruption of all activities from phone and computer traffic to walk or driving down the street. - Attempts at extortion/blackmail, Death threats, brainwashing/gaslighting, etc. via veiled/subtle/implied spook-like means. - Mass smear/disinformation campaign's. And much more than I can list here.

That is Melanie his 1st, only and last Wife. They do have children together and married around 2010. I think what you’re eluding to or reason why you’re asking which is a good question, were they together when Operation Redwings happen? No. They started dating some years later. Marcus was single (not married) at the time OR happened. Hopefully this helps bud.
