The second part of the Bikesafe course series covering riding out on the open road as I give a full commentary, explaining road positions, observations, filtering tactics and more. Devitt Insurance asked if I'd like to do a Bikesafe course with the Met police, and being a police trained biker and driver I thought it would not only be a good refresher for me, but also an opportunity to explain why 'we' do what we do when riding to the police motorcycle training system of Roadcraft.
In part 1 we started at the Bikeshed in central London and rode out of town through heavy traffic, so make sure you check that episode out here • Ex-Police Rider Explai...

Your forward planning is on the money Bruce. I've driven HGV's as well as cars & motorbikes. I can't emphasise how important it is to look as far ahead as possible whilst highlighting hazards to yourself. Top content Bruce 👌

I did my std and adv car and bike courses in the job starting in 1985, followed by TPAC, security escort etc. was full time on bikes for several years and after retiring did training and assessments for recruiting riders for Blood bikes. However, I have not had a bike for about 5 years due to focussing on Motorhome touring but I am now looking to return to biking. Despite all my trying and experience I accept my skills will have diminished, so I am starting by watching KZfaq videos and found your part 1 and 2 on bike safe a great refresher. It reminded me of the satisfaction of doing all that commentary both in my head or out loud inside my helmet and even debriefing myself on where I went wrong. (We all cock up). I will be doing a bike safe myself when I pick up a new bike, we are never too old to learn

Sorry.. totally disagree.. Bad example for a training video .. what training video would show someone overtaking vehicles on an a 'A' road in excess of 70 mph on several occasions and exceeding other speed limits throughout the video. ... a traing course would tell you to be observant at all times and if you observed his speedo at all, you would realise that's it's certainly not suitable as a training video

Top notch video, refresher for those of us that have been biking for decades and all that we do instinctively that younger, less experienced riders might not know. Having been a Chief Instructor for Canada Safety Councils motorcycle courses, lane positioning, always having an "exit strategy" and defensive riding can never be over streesed. Thanks for the excellent job

Being retired met response biker like you it was great seeing you take on the Bikesafe course. I did it years ago before I went onto complete the met response solo course myself and found it a great pre curser. Watching you do it again was such a good reminder of the little bits that keep us safe. Remembering I don’t need to ride everywhere at response mode helps. The Hendon shuffle, I still do it. Remember, Slow in, fast out of the bends was great. Position for vision and always sacrifice position for safety. Brill. Thanks for this great vid Bruce I really enjoyed it!

Brilliant vid Bruce, I see too many bikers who don't use proper positioning and put themselves at a risk, not giving other road users a chance to see them. Life is too short, don't be in a hurry to end it. Being an ambulance tech and and a fellow biker, I just wonder when I will be picking that rider up off the road at times. Be safe!!

I am not a biker rider but l have done the motoring advanced course in the 80's ina van . It was good to see it from a bikers vision and commentary. An added bonus was the dulcet tones of a fellow Scotsman. I used to drive an impact lorry in road traffic management in London, it was interesting to see the reactions of motorists and bikers when l lowered the impact cushion, they would do anything to get past me.

Well done Bruce. You showed that the system of motorcycle control, is very much still within you and used in your riding to the effect it does give to riding. From your own history and training and old profession of; Police rider/driver, it is still serving you in your riding in your "profession" as a motorcycle vlogger, of which I think is at a high standard and sets example to others to follow, that if they were to also commit to some good training, with a professional rider trainer, they to could change their own ride so much for the better and safer. Watching you here shows, that it isn't boring, "old pipe and slippers brigade riding" as was so often thought in the past, but that it is the way to take one's own riding. You have just shown that and expressed it so well to your "subscribers", which I am one, it is so worth it to do these training/assessment opportunities. Well done mate and I hope many more see it and take it up themselves, leaving their egos at home. You've reached a lot of people who watch and listen to your advice on your channel, about bikes and riding and the fun to be had, but safely, as much as we did if not more! on the old Essex Police BikeSafe and currently on the Essex FireBike Better Biking course. Bless ya matey, enjoy once again well done on a great video Bruce.
