Mine on the other hand is constantly suggesting me to put 5W-30 oil in my 2018 Camry Hybrid LE which takes 0w-16 (even after I mentioned about this channel several times). So having a good mechanic is kind of winning a lottery.

@@michaelscottland4239 That’s great that you spoke up! The recommended weight is on the oil filler cap or even a quick Internet search away, so it’s maddening that they would just choose to ignore that. For a long time, 5W-30 was the most common recommended oil in vehicles (80’s, 90’s, 00’s). However, vehicles now are recommended some type of 0W oil due to more narrow oil passages, better lubrication, better fuel economy, etc. The issue is a lot of Mechanics and Shops are stuck in the past, and don’t bother learning the new information or re-training themselves. However, this channel is very refreshing to watch!

I'm not sure if he is following new comments so I'd thought I'd ask you too. It is it easier in terms of hours at a shop to install the entire seat (cushion and cover) on a used car than just the cover? I'm thinking about trading in my Corolla so both rear and front. The rear is in rough shape from my Great Dane after years of dog park trips but worse the front seats are embarrassingly stained so adding that to the cost of installing would be worth it IMO, even a possible loss. $589 from Toyota for the rear and front right seat covers or $491 on Ebay used for the front right and rear seat cushion and cover in condition. I'd have to wait for a left to pop up or just go with the seat cover option from Toyota. I'm guessing the hardware could be reused. Thank you!

A very DIY task, not a big deal. I removed the covers and took them to the Mexican side, 150 dollars for the two front seats, reupholstered with two tone beautiful leather. THANK YOU THANK YOU for taking the time to make this video. I had just taken my seat out and brought it to an upholstery shop for my seat bottom to be redone. When I got it back and I reinstalled the seat, the power seat adjustment for raising and lowering the back half of the seat didn't work. I didn't feel like going all the way back and confronting them, as I was sure something simply didn't get plugged back in. I had no idea how any of this comes apart, but thankfully this video is EXACTLY what I needed. Once I started taking the cover off with the seat switch in it, I immediately found one plug to the drive motor that did not get plugged back together. I'm back working again in way less time than it would have taken me to take the seat all the way back to the upholstery shop. And who knows what else they might have broken taking this back apart again. You are a saviour! Thank you again sir! Best content on KZfaq!

I make a point to watch each video that is posted - less for the information contained therein (obviously essential for the brave souls who tackle some complex jobs such as engine removal, seat upholstery, etc) but more for the subtle offerings of care and altruism that is characteristic of your culture and beliefs about your fellow man. Automobile mechanics most certainly (we are a two-Toyota family), but also selflessness in interpersonal relationships is the greater lesson. I wish you and your family the best in your new business endeavor.

Whew! Thanks. You have the care and patience of a Saint! I would say that not 1 in 100 mechanics or upholsterers could / can do such a fine job! I learned that I will LIVE WITH a few wrinkles / cracks in my driver-seat cover... on my near-pristine 2003 Lexus RX300 with 114K miles on the clock. It also has some "slightly-compromised" (aka compressed / compromised) foam in the driver seat "base". I now use a nice-looking seat cushion that "restores" the comfort factor ... and NOW, I am even happier to skip the labor / cost of a replacing things. I bought it a few years ago and have done a ton of preventive maintenance. It was treated well before I bought it ... and now I am as happy as a clam. I have paid ~ $2,500 for OEM sensors, parts & materials; dealer cost with labor would have been OVER $10,000. FYI: I recently got quotes to remove and replace the (20-year-old yellowed and "brittle") "Clear Bra" ... ~$2,000. I have now begun that process ... IT is QUITE A CHALLENGE. But I am taking a page out of your book. i.e. I am being patient and careful! Luckily I can just do a few hours here and there; my own estimate is 16 hours counting time at "KZfaq University" ... on my own clock. Best to you and all you DIYIers out there! John in the NW

This is why I put leather seat covers on my seats. Purchased new car, drove it home and it sat until I put the seat covers on. Every 5 years the covers were replaced. After 20 years the fabric and frame looked new. $600.00 in covers is better than $2 grand for a new seat. 2 adults, 3 kids and 2 dogs. I took all the covers off when I sold it. New owner couldn't believe this was a family vehicle. Good covers caught the crumbs and spilled drinks. New seat cover are air bag safe. They have openings were the air bags are.

Thank you so much. I have a 2006 Rav4 Limited. I bought it used with aftermarket heated seats installed. Well the seat part on the driver's side was showing it age with rips and tears in the gray leather material. I found a low mileage Rav 4 (2008) at the upull salvage yard. Took my time unplugged all connections and carefully removed the seat. I'm a DIY mechanic with some electrical savvy. I've never done anything like this, I had it set up on the table so I could look it over. I know this older plastic is very fragile so I literally just looked it over. I walked away and now today I found this video and I want to say thank you! I'm sure I can do this now. And if anyone is interested I paid $45 for a full power gray leather driver's seat. Yes its used, but very clean.

So glad I was under warranty. I have fabric seats and I have seat covers on the front seats and a towel over the back seat (just the bottom). My front seat covers are airbag safe too. I must commend you on educating us shade-tree mechanics at home. Not just drumming up business for yourself! I took apart my front seat today before discovering you had done a video. I started on the seat back for adding leather to the original cloth on the 366k mile '07 Sienna I recently bought from a friend- the original owner. I prefer it's drive to my old Odyssey, except for the leather being inferior (You coukd still smell that leather after 10 years- glorious, and also pleated on the door panels- wonderful visage). But as you say, "that's OK, meaning not." But with no instructions I started to take off the cloth, then hog pinned it on again on finding the new skins did not have all the same tie downs in the middle. Tomorrow I will carry on. with more confidence for someone who always wants to get it right the first time. See if I can put it on over the cloth. The skins are Bartlett, from S.E. Toyota (Moran), not identical but that may be cause they are for a '04, and I am installing on an '07. But tahnk you for having a great personality and presence onscreen. I feel you , like me, find purpose in teaching others to do things for themselves and imparting your knowledge. As you say, if one person can do it you can too (or is that me, lol). Keep up the zeal in producing more, please, especially now that factory manuals are so expensive and impossible to download for a song.

I removed the base and back covers for cleaning at 200K. Also Swapped passenger/driver seat base foam so that the outside bolsters would now be supported by the center console and the bolsters on the door side now feel like new. *Procedure for the back cover.* Note do not remove headrest support mounts. 1. Unbolt back from base. 2. Remove three hog-rings along the bottom on the back. 3. Unzip the two zippers on the back. 4. Remove hog-rings on front. 5. Remove one 10mm bolt from material mounting bracket (access on back under foam) thread the material and brackets through the seat foam (this is attached to the front cover.) Photo would help explain this step. 5. Pull cover towards top and carefully remove cover from around the headrest support mounts. I then removed the mounting wire, put the covers into a laundry bag and washed them. I did this on a 2010 5th gen and a 99 3rd gen. Really freshens up the interior after a couple hundred thousand miles. Your mileage may vary.

I saw those tabs laying around in the Camry my dad gave me and I was wondering what those were for. Thanks.

The leather seating surfaces in my 2010 Toyota Prius had seen better days. After pricing OEM seat covers, I elected to have Katzkin covers installed for $1,600.00. Very pleased.

Ahmed, one thing I would really like to see is a thorough video about converting over to the aluminum oil filter housing. More importantly, if there's any way to order the perforated tubes for the various models, if they are even sold separately. I believe that there's three different lengths for the AR & GR engines. One of my kids has an overtorqued plastic housing but is over a thousand miles away. I would like to prepare an aluminum housing with the proper perforated tube to mail off so that it can be installed with the next oil and filter change.

Thank you very much for this video. I need to replace the seat cushion on my 2014 Highlander as some mice damage it to make their nests. The driver seat from my Highlander is probably very like the one on your 4-runner. This video is very usefull for my cushion replacement.

AMD works on other's vehicles the same he would work on his own car....sign of a true professional! Years ago, my co-worker had just bought a brand-new Ford pickup and he loved that thing, as he should! His wife was pregnant and the truck wasn't but a few months old and she went into labor. Yep, on the drive to the hospital, in his new truck, her water broke and he had cloth seats. He spent quite a few weekends cleaning it!!!

just noticed that the last few videos that the camera focus seems to be taking longer or is out of focus...maybe look at using manual focus? but in general awesome information.

They are called Hog Rings because they were originally made to be put onto the upper part of hogs snout to keep the pig from digging out of their pins. Just so you know. BeeBob

That’s definitely more complicated than I ever want to tackle. I’ll stick with my seat covers from CarID. I’m a rideshare driver and they have been lifesavers. My only two complaints about the seats in my 2020 Camry are that they could be more comfy, especially in terms of back support. I’ve driven more than 75,000 miles this year so far and my back takes the most abuse. The other complaint is the cracked plastic on the trim below my left leg. It doesn’t affect anything but it just isn’t as pretty. It started cracking from the top but hasn’t quite made it all the way through yet.
