Yes, the “room” where the light won’t find you is a bomb shelter and the “light” is the initial flash of a nuclear bomb that incinerates everything in its path. Even if you evade that the shock wave will make the wall come tumbling down. I didn’t really listen closely to that part and fugue it out until a few years ago and to be honest in grateful. I was way more aware than most kids if the danger we all faced and I even had nuke nightmares for about a year.

This is poster child of 80s pop music. It’s such an iconic representation of music of the mid 80s and one of the best as well, it was a smash on US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, hitting #1 in June 1985. Tears For Fears had a huge hit with the album “Songs From The Big Chair” (hit #1 in the US album chart) which includes this track as well as “Shout” which was also a #1 hit in the U.S.The dinosaur in the video is off the 10 Freeway in Cabazon California (just outside Palm Springs) and yes, it was in the Pee Wee movie. This song was originally titled “Everybody Wants To Go To War” and it’s a statement about the Cold War which was still prevalent at that time. There is another song from the same album which has a really good video as well and I think you guys would enjoy reacting to it. It’s called “Head Over Heels”. My personal fave off the “Songs From The Big Chair” album.

I always remember this song coming in at the end of the movie "Real Genius" with Val Kilmer. Song is so iconic though, I'm sure it's been covered or added to other soundtracks. However, Gary Jules' cover of their song Mad World from the movie Donnie Darko was pretty popular in and of itself.

The band took the name from a type of therapy called primal therapy. Another song by them called " Shout " is about part of that therapy called primal scream therapy. The 2 core members of the band you saw singing in the video both had similar tough upbringings & both became fans of that type of therapy treatment. One of the best bands to come out of the 80's if not ever.

That’s what driving with the top down symbolizes to me’❤️❤️

The song's lyrics detail the desire humans have for control and power.[23][24] In 2017, Tal Rosenberg of Pitchfork stated that its lyrics could be applied in different scenarios such as the environment ("Turn your back on mother nature"), short-lived financial success ("Help me make the most of freedom and of pleasure/Nothing ever lasts forever"), dictatorial rule ("Even while we sleep/We will find you"), and the Cold War ("Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down").[1] The song's lyrics have elicited different political interpretations. The Economist writer K.Y.W. called the track a Cold War anthem and noted its timeless message, stating that "the song's lyrics speak to the anxieties of every age."[25] Marc Ambinder from The Atlantic used the lyrics "Say that you'll never, never, never need it / One headline, why believe it? / Everybody wants to rule the world" in his article about the United States government's use of "original classified authority" and the abuse of power between the branches of government.[26] Dominic Pino of National Review described the track as a "conservative pop song", noting the lyrics' tension between "personal ambition" and "channeling that personal ambition to good ends", comparing these themes to James Madison's concerns about private interest in the Federalist Papers[27] (this interpretation garnered ridicule from fans and was also refuted by Curt Smith.[28]) Tears for Fears revisited the song and its message in an interview with Yahoo! Music, stating that the song's themes were still "just as poignant" as they were when they first wrote it.[29] They mentioned that they discussed the Cold War with "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and Songs from the Big Chair but that was the "U.S. and Russia then, and now the concern is more with the U.S. and [North] Korea."[29]

This song was in a movie called "Real Genuis," with Val Kilmer. It is about students who attend a college for gifted students studying science. Val Kilmer's character created a death ray without knowing he did because his professor wanted him to do it in return for an internship. Once he did, the professor stole his invention and sold it to NASA. I always thought the song was about someone who is so addicted to power and prestige that they would steal someone's ideas just to obtain it.

This song sounds happy, but the lyrics are actually pretty dark, talking about power and greed. The original title was 'Everybody Wants to go to War.' However, the producer thought the song sounded like a "drive at 5" type of song, which is why there is so much focus on driving in the video. But the lyrics are much more serious. Tears for Fears is a duo: The bass player and lead singer of this song (Curt Smith) and the guitarist and other lead singer and songwriter (Roland Orzabal). They broke up for about 10 years in the 1990s and reunited in 2000. They still tour today, and have a new album completed (apparently); their first since 2004. Another great song by them you may want to react to in the future is 'Sowing the Seeds of Love.'

This song came out during a very tense period during the Cold War and we even had 2 near misses about a year and a half earlier in the fall of 1983(this song came out in June of 1985). This song reflects the time we were living in when things could end at a moments notice. We still have nukes but back then both the US and USSR had tens of thousands pointed at each other. Listen to the part that begins at 4:40. The “room” where the light won’t find you is a nuclear bomb shelter and “the light” is the initial flash from a nuclear bomb that vaporizes everything within so many miles. “The walls come crumbling down” is describing the shock wave that comes after the initial blast of heat. The song is about enjoying life while you can and living in the moment because it could all end in the blink of an eye. I was 13 when this song came out and we didn’t know it yet but the Cold War would end just 6 years later.
