"Funny how...tiiime fliiieeessssss." As a teenager in high school when this song came out, hearing that ending pulls at my heart in a way I can't explain. Great reaction.

Time flies and its hard to fully understand each era unless you were there or at least had a basic idea of the culture and tech available at the time. During the 80's most people had cable TV by then and we had maybe 15 channels (MTV was new and music videos became the source and vehicle used by the groups)...(60s and 70s TV reception was via antenna, and only 2 or 3 channels, videos were rarely done.. radio was the mode we heard the music hits from). Today, you have internet and can watch and listen but very little in the way of good music being originally produced.

@@Abbadonhades I used to think that Evreybody Wants to Rule The World bore me too .... but I realise I was not listening to the second half of the song closely enough thinking its just repetitions ... but its not, the second half of the song is actually the better half of the song where they turn it up a couple of notch ....its epic how they change it up .... appreciating the second half of the song is really the thing that takes the song to another level ....

On the album, this song is part of a medley that starts with "Broken", which segues into "Head Over Heals", which segues into "Broken (reprise)". So if you want to hear a longer (and better) version of this song, you can do so in it's intended context. Thanks guys - and enjoy.

TFF is an amazing group. This song, specifically, was written by Roland Orzabal to woo his soon-to-be wife, Carolyn, who passed away a few years ago. She can be seen in the video and was the love of his life and his heart broke when she passed - it was uncertain if he would perform again, after that. He did, and he's back with Curt. I LOVE, love, love this song..........

Lyrics: Verse 1: Roland Orzabal] I wanted to be with you alone And talk about the weather But traditions I can trace against the child in your face Won't escape my attention You keep your distance with a system of touch And gentle persuasion I'm lost in admiration - could I need you this much? Oh, you're wasting my time You're just, just, just wasting time [Chorus: Roland Orzabal] Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out till I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away [Post-Chorus: Roland Orzabal] Throw it away Throw it away [Verse 2: Roland Orzabal, Curt Smith] I made a fire, I’m watching it burn (yeah) I thought of your future With one foot in the past now just how long will it last? No, no, no, have you no ambition? (Mm, what's the matter with my...) My mother and my brother’s used to breathing clean air (Nothing ever changes when you’re acting your age) And dreaming I’m a doctor (Nothing gets done when you feel like a baby) It’s hard to be a man when there’s a gun in your hand (Nothing ever changes when you’re acting your age) Oh, I feel so [Chorus: Roland Orzabal] Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out till I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away [Bridge: Roland Orzabal] And this is my four leaf clover I’m on the line, one open mind This is my four leaf clover [Outro: Roland Orzabal] La la-la la la, la la-la la la La la la-la la-la La la-la la la, la la-la la la La la la-la la-la La la-la la la, la la-la la la La la la-la la-la La la-la la la, la la-la la la La la la-la la-la La la-la la la, la la-la la la In my mind’s eye La la la-la la-la One little boy, one little man La la-la la la, la la-la la la Funny how time flies

Great Song! Never saw the video, it's funny. That opening is unmistakable! So much going on in this video...😄 From all the books he is holding, the chimp, and how awkward he walks when he walks away from the desk... Cheesy, fun 80's video! Rolland is becoming one of my favorite voices... The "lalas" at the end ("Lovin' Touchin' Sqeezin' " has repeditive "Na Nas" at the end of that song). Had this up as loud as I could. Don't know what the Perverse part was - maybe 4 leaf clover is code. 🤣

One of the things I appreciate about this reaction channel is that the guys DON'T watch videos like some other channels. I think videos can be distracting, and watching the video can mean the reactors aren't fully "in the music". I prefer it when reactors listen to just the music, the studio cuts, just as most of us were first exposed to those songs when they were released on the radio. I think listening to just the music provides a more pure, visceral, and honest reaction.

So dude in the middle hit it on the head. I remember this song when it came out in the 80's and yeah... It was nice. But when I saw how they used the track for that scene in Donnie Darko my appreciation for the tune shot up like Mentos in Coke. It's seriously one of the best crafted pop songs of all time and deserves a trophy. Along with Everybody Wants to Rule The World, Tears for Fears can claim at least two of those.

Such a great song from such a great group. They had some reunion gigs last year that were awesome and they sound just as good today as they did back in the 80's. In 50 years there will be a reactor on the future's version of KZfaq (hopefully it's no longer Big brother, but I won't hold my breath) who discovers this group and their songs and they will be as popular as they are now and were 40 odd years ago. It is a classic sound that will never go out of style.
