The random guy dancing outside of the window is Roland Orzabal. 🙂He is the co-founder of Tears For Fears (TFF) along with Curt Smith, who is the band's bassist & the singer on this track. Orzabal is also the guitarist, primary vocalist & primary songwriter for the group. Smith occasionally sings on a few tracks on their albums. Orzabal & Smith were in a band called Graduate prior to TFF with three other members, & there is a performance of the group performing their song "Ever Met A Day" on TV on KZfaq. It's interesting. The song's catchy. Tears For Fears was formed when Graduate disbanded in 1981. Orzabal & Smith created TFF (1981) & soon after keyboardist Ian Stanley & drummer Manny Elias joined the group to complete the band's TFF lineup. Elias left the band in 1986 & Stanley left the band in 1987. Stanley did play keys on three tracks to the follow up to the "Song's From The Big Chair" album (1985) called "The Seeds Of Love" released in 1989. This album took three years to record & produce & you can hear The Beatles influence in this album, especially on the first single, "Sowing The Seeds Of Love," which has The Beatles pastiche all over this track. The song is a sonic delight to the ears with so many interesting sounds & switches going on. Production & song structure wise, it's one of their best songs in their catalog. Smith left TFF after this album & Orzabal was the sole member of the band. Orzabal recorded two albums continuing as TFF solo until Smith rejoined the band (or Orzabal really) in 2004, & they have remained as TFF (again) ever since.

From the Tears for Fears album 'Songs From the Big Chair.' One of their hit singles along with 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World', 'Shout', and 'Head over Heels.' 'Mad World' was also on the soundtrack of the 2001 movie 'Donnie Darko.' Very talented band.

Mad World was Not from the "Songs From The Big Chair" album, which was released in February 1985. Mad World was released as a single in September 1982 in the U.K., & it was the third single from Tears For Fears' debut album "The Hurting" released in March 1983. Mad World was a hit song in the U.K. & Ireland & not much elsewhere. However, Mad World was popular in the USA on New Wave music radio channels but not on the mainstream charts. Tears For Fears was introduced beyond New Wave music radio audiences into the mainstream audience in both the USA & in Canada when their single "Shout" (1984) was released off of their "Songs From The Big Chair" album (1985). "Shout" reached #1 in the USA & in Canada & so did their follow up single "Everybody Wants To Rule The World." Their third single from the album "Head Over Heels" reached #3 in the USA & made it into the Top Ten in Canada.

It's great that you like the Tears for Fears version of this song which is the original and the best at portraying the madness of the world. Very sad lyrics put to really upbeat music. This was recorded July 1982 and just a month later Robert Smith of The Cure came out with a song that is a weird spoof of this song called "Let's go to Bed". It's worth watching just to see how alike the videos are, very funny. Makes me laugh but nobody seems to notice the similarity.

@@Reactionmiss in my mind eye it's not dissimilar from something like NIN - Hurt and Johnny Cash - Hurt... There's this album by "Sigur Ros" that's technically untitled, but... so... how do I put this...? The folks in that band are Icelandic, but technically aren't speaking Icelandic (I'm pretty sure they call it "hopelandic", but whatever)... if I told you to sit down, listen to that album (which you should by the way [it's not uncommon for folks to request a reaction to "untitled song 8" on that album]) and write down what you hear phonetically... to me, it sounds like the songs are using the same words to make different songs... while it is "untitled", the cover, to me, looks like parenthesis ( ), which are technically used for context... yeah... whatever... sorry... I just wanted to say I think you'll enjoy that version of the song... not sure what happened... anywhoo... you take care...
