Really good to see a well thought out and reasoned review. Having just upgraded a 2016 9.7 iPad Pro to a 11inch M4 iPad Pro earlier in the week and I’m blown away by its performance. The new pencil is incredible compared to the original pencil. A simple decision for me as I want to use the new iPad Pro for rough cuts using Final Cut Pro iOS out in the field. I’ll polish them up, if required on a MacBook or iMac when I return home. Multi screen editing in the field on the iPad is a bonus. The 40Gb Thunderbolt port on the Pro was the deciding factor over an M2 iPad Air and the Apple keyboard looks like a sensible next purchase. This should allow me to connect an external (10,000 MAh) power bank to the keyboard and power both the iPad and an external NVME drive connected to the Thunderbolt port on the iPad, thus allowing 40Gb file transfer for video files.

Fantastic Video! Thank you. My biggest question was your first. I am struggling choosing between 13 and 11. I had a 12.9 but returned because I found it heavy in tablet mode. I love my Mini for content consumption, tired the 11 but missed the RE when trying to multi task. Going to try the 13! Thanks!

Love the 13” but in my case I use my iPad in tight spaces and prefer the 11”. Last iPad was the 12.9 so I do have a point of reference. Either way, the M4 iPad is a a great device and the accessories are top notch.

The 11” is a very compelling size this year and it was a hard decision for me. What a shift coming for the 12.9” iPad Pro.

How much does the new 13inch pro with keyboard weigh compacted to the M1 version? Airlines are getting really strict about how much the carry on weight can be. 7 kilos adds up really quickly when you have camera gear too!! 😁

Think you’re the first to say if you have M1 ipad pro, prob not worth upgrading. I struggled with this esp after WWDC it looked like the ipad experience remains largely unchanged, so the only benefits I’d get is the slimmer design (13 inch) and function row on magic keyboard. Really cool tech imo and I really want it, but I’ll try to hold off for the next iteration (or a discount).

I don't think that many people with a two-generation-old tablet would extract the value from upgrading. You would really need to have a compelling use case and I see it like buying a new car when you're upside down on the one you own.

My 2018 iPad Pro has served me well. The only reason I upgraded to the M4 is because of the new AI that’s coming. I also went from 11” to 13”, and there’s hardly any weight difference. I love the iPad, and I also love my Macs. They’re both great devices, with different use cases.

I love the framework you’ve shared in choosing 11” or 13”. Very helpful. I am contemplating about it too. But I think 11” is for my use case since I value portability. I dock my iPad at home if I need to do keyboard stuff and multi tasking

@@ItsCaputo just using a standard USB-C to HDMI from U green. I use ny wooden Macbook docking station i used before for a macbook as my iPad stand. LOL. Very unlikely

I’m considering it mainly cause of that new Tandem OLED display + of the design and how lightweight it is. I don’t currently have an iPad and although I will mostly use it for media consumption I think i’ll go for the M4 iPad Pro 😅

Oh man, this would’ve been such a good question too! I personally would not choose nano texture because of a cut down or reduction on contrast. But honestly, I haven’t seen one in person yet which is why the question escaped me.

I definitely think that both are just personal preference, i have smaller hands so the 11in M4 pro works best for me every though the 13 is lighter i have a 13 inch MacBook Air that i just adore and i split that into 4 screens so i didn’t see it worth getting the 13in iPad Pro even though it would be fun to have it the smaller screen works well for me. Also i use this for a movie screen for my kids in the car and it fits in the holder perfectly. Both are great and whatever anyone chooses i think you’ll like them both. The iPad pros this year i think are great!

Do you think it'd be a good idea to replace my iPad 9th generation and M1 MacBook Air with an iPad Air 4 or iPad 10th generation with a first-party keyboard case? I barely ever use my laptop and manage to do most tasks on my iPad. So I think it might be a good idea to just get a slightly more powerful iPad to replace both devices. I don't care much for stage manager or external monitor support. Do you think this is a good idea?

I think this is a good choice, but I'd probably chose the iPad Air 5 if you can. Additionally, the iPad Air 5 can be used as a secondary display for your M1 MacBook Air, allowing you to control it using your MacBook's keyboard and trackpad. Did this help?

I never used the wide angle lens on my old M1 iPad Pro - not even once that I remember. I generally only use the camera to scan documents, although have taken the occasional image if it is front of me and I have seen something I wanted to photograph. For me the biggest advantage of the M4 has been it is noticeably lighter to hold in tablet mode. If you wondered why I upgraded, it was mainly that the battery life was getting poor on my previous M1 after using 10+ hours every day for the last three years, and as a musician it is important that it lasts out a musical gig.
