The importance of privacy I can understand to some degree. My question is, what if organised crime or even terrorism is operating on these platforms if not already & how or who can monitor, prevent & protect the public If privacy is a priority & an unpenetrable platform for communication is allowed. I am trying to understand the point to this platform to be honest. If a person is honest & has nothing to hide, why do they need end to end encrypted communication. Perhaps I am naive in not seeing the real value.

Meredith, I was with you until I realized that law enforcement does and should have access to communications when a high enough bar is met to warrant such access and if Signal doesn't abide that law, then you do risk not playing in a safe sandbox for society as we are used to it in the U.S. I'm not talking about shady back doors, but abide standard search warrant protocol. That seems like a fair balance between supporting natural human rights to communicate privately and not harboring criminality without any recourse for victims.
