Yes, I once ran COD warzone 2020 on the system and obtained more than 45 fps in silent mode. In high performance mode, fps was defintely much higher and the system was still well had both noise and heat under control.

​​​​​@@clarkisaac6372 I just tweaked my 6850m version quite a bit and I think that it's outperforming everyone else's and probably beating a 3080ti laptop. I've looked at some videos and it seems to be beating the desktop 6700xt by a small margin so I think that it might be on par with a 6750xt if you tweak it right. For reference, I was playing control with Ray tracing on and it was obviously averaging above 30fps at some point. I'd say somewhere between high 30 to mid 40s maybe grazing 50s

Currently compiling the gaming video. 1440p vs 4K is somewhat similar. Both have a lot more pixels than 1440p 16:9. But 4K has a LOT more pixels. Basically a game you get 65 fps at 1440p ultra wide on ultra settings you’d get probably 35 on 4K at the same settings. Depends on the game, and on fsr. FSR, is REALLY good at 4k, much better than 1440p You’ll see in my video, But you can toss on FSR 4k and lose nothing really, but double or quadruple fps. Whereas on 1440p I find fsr very “soft” The video will come out tonight. It’s nothing special but I do a LOT of testing in cyberpunk at 1440p and 4k with different settings

If you wish to get a higher fps(more than 10 normally) in gaming at 4k, go for rtx 3080 ti + Intel core i9 12 gen 16 core version, I know the costs for systems are incredibly high but this is only a relatively a large margin can be found between RTX 3080 ti and RX 6850M XT at 4k gaming, 4k only.

It’s a Hagibis USC docking station (U100), there is a pro model too with more ports. If you have pro it just takes two hdmi out. Alternatively you can use one of the USB c. I find that I use one hdmi for my first monitor, and then just for ease of use I use one of the other usbc ports on the laptop for my ultra wide. I don’t need to do it this way, but I did because I already had the little dongle for usb c to DP :) If you want two displays out of the box just get the pro model since it has two hdmi ports. The laptop itself can support a bunch of displays over usb c and HDMI if you use the ports directly, but I prefer the dock for most things to keep the desk clean

g14 smaller chassis, 35tdp on the cpu and the 6800s gpu is not extremely powerful either(its kinda equivalent to rtx 3070ti) so it wont be as good as the laptop in this vid but still good enough. Also the 1440p(think g14 is 1080p tho?) performance is less than last years 3070 but the 6800s can only push 80-100w max so yeah

@@noneB974 the 6800S is not equivalent to a 3070Ti. It’s equivalent to a 6600M, because it is one. It’s a Navi 23 die. I have a 7 Slim 6800S. It’s great for what it is.

6850m is more comparable to a 3070ti/3080

Nope. 6800h and 6900hx will perform nearly identical in every task (gaming and productivity). The uplift would be less than 1%. So In other words skip the 6900hz and go for the 6800h. Amazing chip

The host was right, ryzen 9 6900hx is only 8 percent faster over ryzen 7 6800h in cpu benchmarks, according to a couple of official websites on pc hardware. There is absolutely no difference between the two in use but the numbers on stickers.

@@nazdhillon994 The Blackscreen is mostly an issue with graphics driver, hdr and switching between powerstates. Use hybrid mode, deactivate hdr entirely and test different drivers.

The 3070 max q will perform quite a bit below the 6850m xt or a full 3070. It’s not a bad gpu by any means, but it would be closer to a normal 3060 laptop but with some extra vram. Objectively the best of those is the Lenovo legion 7 with 6850m xt. If it’s the same price as the others it’s an easy buy

This gpu is basically the same performance as a 3080. The amd has some advantages with memory sharing between cpu and gpu, where 3080 is better raytracing Really. They are very similar in raw performance The laptop never had any bugs for me. It has run perfectly day 1. If you want to play games with raytracing I would suggest nvidia. If you don’t care about ray tracing (I don’t) then either is superb I have a 3070 legion as well. I much prefer the 6850m xt model personally.

The fans are quiet, no whine. Just standard are movement sound. The AMD variant doesn’t get hot whatsoever so maybe that’s why? All I can say is the 12800hx is a HOT cpu. So maybe that’s why

You can play 1440p like a dream and even 4K. I have more recent videos on this exactly laptop (comparing to the 4070 2023 legion pro 5). Might be worth checking it out for update info

In putting together a video. Results are somewhat sprite 30% decrease in score after unplugging the device. Not terrible considering it’s power overall

Thunderbolt 4 is just high speed devices like ssd and stuff. There is 1 usb 4 (type c) port on this laptop which supports Thunderbolt devices so you can connect them via that port.

No, it has a metal chassis. The screen and chassis feel very solid and smooth. It’s heavier as a result but it feels very premium

@@TechGuyBeau One immediate flaw I noticed in the 5s is there is no indicator of system on/off/sleep status when the lid is closed. The power port LED shows that in the gen 7 ones.

I haven’t used it for that, but typically lenovo has good Linux support.

I suppose it would depend on the screen brightness. But I tend to get six or seven hours of mixed use. If I’m doing very simplistic things probably another hour or two more

Hard to say. This is VASTLY more powerful than any mac. In terms of battery life it’s pretty average for a laptop, which is not an insult considering the power. But it won’t beat a m1 mac in terms of battery life. Kind of an apples to orange comparison tho

The AMD cpu runs cooler than Intel For sure, so it wouldn’t be as irritating as the Intel + nvidia option

No idea. It went out of stock pretty much right after I bought it unfortunately At this point you might be better off waiting for laptops with 7000 series AMD processors and 7000 series GPUs. Hopefully we start to see those in the spring.

The software is a bit different since I am D doesn’t use advanced Optimus

Unfortunately the Thunderbolt port connects through the iGPU so when you disable the iGPU by disabling Hybrid graphics, it disables any graphics signal able to be throughput since the connection is severed. Don't know why they do this but it is a known problem.

That depends. The cpu is more powerful in the Intel model but it will also drains battery fast, run hot, and run poorly on battery relative to amd. But when plugged it it is more powerful somewhat. In gaming it won’t matter whatsoever as both cpus are more than capable (gpu would be the bottleneck) In terms of GPUs they are somewhat similar. The 6850m xt would probably outperform on average but some games favour nvidia and some amd. Nvidia does offer better ray tracing. So here is my takeaway: 460 euros is a LOT of money. Is that worth better raytracing performance (at the cost of money and battery). If so keep the nvidia. It’s way more capable in RT settings. Otherwise the amd is at worst equal, at best a tiny bit better. Regardless they are both very capable machines.

Of that I’m not sure. The legion is a superior build and quality to Alienware for sure. Otherwise you’d have to decide on the extra watts

Amd should be onyx grey. The dimensions are correct for Size, the weight is about 5 - 5.2 lbs. I believe if you get the 6850mxt model with the 99.9 WH battery it’s a little heavier than they say. Definitely not above 5.5 lb though, so it’s fairly slim for a full gaming laptop that’s all metal, but not as light at the legion 7 slim model

@@SirRFI I have a Lenovo legion 5 pro I’m reviewing. It’s the lighter grey. You can notice side by side for sure, but in a void they seem fairly dark in both cases.

This will easily outperform the 5 pro in gaming tasks, and it’s more premium.

The i7 isn’t a lot better. It’s is a bit more powerful (5-8%) but also a lot hotter and demanding of power. If you don’t care about battery or heat go intel. If you need good battery and thermals go AMD. Also the amd GPU is definitely more powerful than a 3070ti. Nvidia has some gaming advantages like dlss and better RT, but for raw power the worst the AMD is equal, if not better. It is closer to a 3080/3080ti. In the end they will perform most tasks nearly the same. So asses pricing and need for battery versus being plugged in. Go by that I would say Since you aren’t doing gaming tasks personally I would go AMD. Unless you are CUDA dependant.

@@Vladyugi nvidia cards use a different architecture than AMD. They have a high amount of CUDA cores. Basically processing units. I think amd uses “stream” processors instead Basically, some desktop software can leverage these CUDA processes to dramatically speed up tasks like rendering. If you work is CUDA capable, then it can be a boon. My work has a few tools that leverage CUDA, but the vast of mine don’t do it doesn’t matter that much

It’s a Hagibis U100 dock. There is also a pro model that has Ethernet.

If I don't want to use this to power the laptop, and instead I want to use my Legion 7 power supply (it gives more Watt to CPU/GPU), can I still use it? @@jimefth yes. Laptops will decide which has the higher power provision, so it will take AC power and not get any from the usb c of both are plugged in

Do not chase after liquid metal. Unlike thermal paste or carbon thermal pad, liquid metal degrades faster and if it is left on for long enough it will wear down the copper heat sink in contact with the cpu surface. What you will start off with is stellar thermal performance which will branch into one of two routes: 1) stellar thermal performance so long as you keep replacing the liquid metal(far more often than you would thermal paste or carbon thermal pad) 2) stellar thermal performance that will fall off a cliff once the liquid metal is left on, you will end up with thermal performance worse than thermal paste left on for the same period of time. Ether u perform or pay to have your laptop serviced regularly to keep liquid metal fresh, or suffer hardware degradation overtime due to incompetence or negligence. You were warned. Also its likely both have thermal paste. When a laptop is sold with liquid metal applied it is stated for the very reason i mentioned.

To be honest you probably won’t notice any difference. I had the legion pro 5 with a 3070 (you can see my video ). The legion 7 has better structure, better audio, and if you do play games, it will drastically out perform a3070. Furthermore call the legion 7 has a USB port much faster peripherals, such as gigabit external hubs and faster external storage

Raytracing the 3070 wins easily. No contest For raw power including lows, the 6850m xt wins. Basically decide if you want raytracing or better performance. Note: the legion 5 also offers. A 3070ti. The ti model would be closer to the 6850m xt.

I get about 7-9 hours of use typically doing standard things. You could likely push it up more by turning down settings and such. But I’m happy with that. Also enabling switchable graphics would push battery life up (done in bios to enable iGPU). Another interesting thing is how low the thermals are. Fans don’t turn on during standard use whatsoever, not sure about intel but it does run hotter for sure If battery is critical, then AMD is the winner, kind of no question. The 6850m xt is a superior GPU to the 3070ti in everything outside of ray tracing, and the CPU is way more efficient than that intel. Typically you hit gpu bottlenecks WAY before CPU, so I’d opt for the better gpu in every case Intel will have more raw cpu power, at the expense of heat and battery. It will also share cooling with the gpu, which might affect cooling overall. Intel chips run HOT. They do offer a 3080ti version for Intel in North America. It’s another option (assuming you don’t want the AMD Gpu). But personally I’m quite happy with the raw power and also battery/thermals of AMD I’m cool with intel in desktops, but in laptops it makes a lot less sense. Nvidia be AMD gpu is an entirely different question depending on whether you want raytracing or just high FPS at higher res

Typically AMD does better with coding. It compiles and runs a bit faster. Either or would be good though

You can update these drivers via Lenovo vantage software. Otherwise when you get to the amd website you can get the automatic tool, it will identify what you have and update from there

Laptop is probably going into battery saver mode when you do that. Make sure you are ok performance on battery, both in windows, and in the the Lenovo vantage software

Use it for what? Typically I run my videos as “user reviews” aka what the average user would experience when buying and using a laptop. Most users won’t use msi Also, I’m not sure you can tweak the gpu in any meaningful way with msi.

@@TechGuyBeau no dear friend I mean use it for showing FPS,temps,ram usage, power draw via msi afterburner instead of using Xbox game bar and the other app that u showed the temps from it , no need to tweak the GPU it's already a beast.

Oh I gotcha. I just find it easier to use Xbox and then flip to HWinfo for a more detailed breakdown of sensors. But I suppose either works. I like the incredible detail of hwinfo personally, but that’s just personal preference

Buy it with your eyes closed. One hell of a machine - easily destroys any laptop below a 4080 spec. I picked it up from Microless without Windows and threw in another SSD - and I can tell you coming in from a high end desktop setup - the machine can push power staying relatively cool compared other louder laptops. I have tried other laptops that are 4070 based, and there are no Comparisions whatsoever. The CPU will age really well atleast for another solid 3 years, and the GPU is a champ with 12GB memory its possible to do 4K. Beau has reviewed it really well. The cooling is also really well. Buy it with your eyes closed.

Depends on use. Standard dekstop use out of box. 7/8 hours. Tweaked settings closer to 9/10 Heavy use maybe 3-5 hours. What are you typically running? I could give you a better estimate
