I've been using the SR850's for 2+ years now for everything from listening to music, to producing, to my work as a transcriber and I'd have to say their strongest feature is just how balanced they are. The sound spectrum with these is so cohesive and doesn't draw attention to any particular aspect of the music you're listening to. There is no V-shaped response here, these babies are flat across the board and start to taper down maybe around 40hz. The bass is tight and goes low enough, though maybe not way down into the sub region, the midrange was a hint nasally at first but evened out perfectly after around 40 to 50 hours of break-in, and the highs are not at all recessed and nicely sharp but not too sharp as to cause any kind of listener fatigue whatsoever. These cans are shockingly good not only for the price but for 4x their price soundwise. Buildwise, there's no denying these are cheap headphones, they're super lightweight and creaky, the pads are quite soft and comfortable, and there's almost no clamping around your head yet you can violently shake your head without any worry of these falling off. In over 2 years of daily use (they're on my head 6 to 8 hours a day), there's only a hint of wear and tear, though I wouldn't recommend dropping them if you can avoid it 'cause the cups are thin plastic and seem like they would break with a good impact. This is all coming from a guy who sold off his Sennheiser HD-650's after getting the Samsons. Yes, the Senns went much lower in the bass department (though not as tight) and had a much deeper soundstage, versus a wider soundstage with the Samson's, but I am not a fan of the veiled, dark sound and rest assured, the Samson's do not sound veiled in the least. If anything, they may be a slight bit forward. All in all, they sound exactly how a studio monitor should sound, they're not "exciting" headphones, they're flat and accurate and perfect for editing and mixing. If you like a nice, open soundstage and a flat frequency response and don't have 200 bucks to spend, just get these!

Dear Mike, I ordered the SR850 some months ago but didn't get it delivered due to pandemic. But last month I ordered it again and got delivered, and I'm using it since then. I'd like to say that this headphone is so incredible. I never thought it'd be such a wonderful experience, and I'm thanking you again for helping me to choose this great headphone. Since then I'm using it to mix my songs, edit videos, and listening to music too. I've also bought the Tempotec Sonata HD Pro DAC for using it with my OnePlus 7T phone, PC and other devices. Also, I've a request to all the people who bought it that this Samson SR850 headphone isn't measured in right way to get the frequency response graph, by any professionally doing teams. So because of that this headphone doesn't have the EQ settings to adjust it for sounding flatter/neutral or match with other compensations. So to do this, I request the proud owners of this SR850 to please go to Rtings website, register there, and cast your vote for this headphone from their list. I also request you to please don't spam or try to manipulate the voting, as they may reject this headphone from their list if they find any manipulation. Thank you for taking time to read this comment :)

Broke my monitor headphones after 4 years and needed to find a replacement. Found the samson SR850 and ordered them. They arrived a few days ago and started burning them in. Last night, I tried them out, connected it to a DAC, played a few tracks and was so amazed at the sound it was producing! Daft Punk never sounded that good before in my ears and I could hear separation between sounds for the first time without using an equalizer. These are so comfortable as well. I found many people saying after switching to Brainwavz ones the bass is more punchier, and also because of the thickness there's even more soundstage. Though only the Brainwavz XL earpads are available in my country and most reviews are about the hybrid ones the only one type available at present is the XL earpads. Does any of you guys recommend that one? Hi, your video was awesome and you covered all the features. I'll be buying a new one very soon. Though I have a question that is there any need of burning-in the SR-850? I read a couple of threads saying about burn-in, and even some people said it didn't help. Most of them are complaining about the low/no-base and high highs. What's your thought?
@Techkhamun4 жыл бұрын
well firstly in terms of the base it's not going to be pronounced as these are meant to have a flatter profile so it's meant to be as realistic as possible if you wanted to for example use them for enjoying music then these are definitely not the headphones for you. Yes it does require a bit of burn in but I was very happy with the results out of the box especially for the price I mean they are punching well above its price point if you really wanted performance similar to this you would be looking at over £100 easily so for the price there isn't anything on the market that I have found at this price point that is as good as this. I use this for all my video editing needs as these headphones are not skewed in anyway to my ears meaning that I can grade my audio with confidence and know that no matter whre my viewers are watching my videos let's say on a phone or with a set of earbuds they will have an enjoyable audio experience 😊✌🏽

How bad is the bleed? I've been thinking of switching from the usual headsets to headphones + a proper mic. Considering how cheap these are (and there are decent cheap USB mics), I would end up spending way less than trying to get a full headset with similar quality... but none of that will matter if they bleed into the mic.
@Techkhamun3 жыл бұрын
You don’t buy semi open back or open back headphones if you are worried around bleed because it’s nearly impossible to not have bleed after about 50/60% because it’s how it’s designed but you get much better soundstage and it just naturally sounds better than closed back, high end headphones go for this design because it does so well for soundstage, you would be better off looking at the neewer headphones I did a review on that are cheap, sound good for the price and are closed back

@@Techkhamun thanks! Yea I thought as much... I just would like to have open backs for that sound experience as well. What if I only use cellphone specifically s7 edge will I enjoy my music listening to these? Is there enough loudness if I don't use amplifier or good soundcard?

You would Really enjoy using them, but they Won't reach their full potential. For good audio in a budget, you could buy a Fiio btr3k dac. It has bluetooth, and is not so expensive

How does the sr850 compare to the sr950? The difference in our country is like $10 so i dont know if i should go for the 950.
@Techkhamun4 жыл бұрын
why the 950s are closed back where is the sr 850 is open back meaning that you'll get a much better sound stage if you are going to be using your headphones for vocals then when the 950s might be better but I prefer open back headphones for it sound stage and better sound when when editing

Just remember that just because a headphone can play all these frequencies doesn't mean you can hear them, do you have other headphones that go to 20k and check that you can even hear these frequencies as my ears can't hear certain frequencies in general

They are not very different in sound quality but the build quality is much better in the audiotechnica, audiotechnica most of time are 45-60 dollars but you can get the Samson ones in aliexpress for like 25 dollars without the box

@wurival75274 жыл бұрын
Yes. But, monitoring / reference headphones aren't the best option for normal people. Because monitoring headphones have flat frequency response (no boost on the bass, treble, etc) so it's less bass-heavy as other headphones that may you've used. If a monitoring headphones are coffee without sugar, then normal headphones are coffee with sugar. It depends on your personal preferences. I prefer a headphones that are balanced, no heavy bass, no super bright treble, etc. Some people complain that the Samson sr850 is very uncomfortable. I never tried this headphone myself, so I don't precisely know the feel and comfort of the sr850. Also, sr850 is an open back headphone, so you can still hear outside noise, and sometimes people still can hear what are you listening. If you use this to travel, I don't recommend this headphone. But if you don't care about that, this headphone may be the best option for you, again, if you like flat frequency response headphones.

Kinda late but to add on to the person on top, these would be great for gaming as their soundstage should be wide since it's a semi open back. So you might get some good directional audio however they won't be super bassy but you will get clean bass.
