I use my iPhone with voiceover for just about everything, and I have one of those Plantronics headsets like Pablo has. I bought my first computer earlier this year. It’s an 11 inch laptop, and I use narrator as my screen reader of choice. I tried to learn Jaws a couple years ago and I really struggled with it, but I’ve had really good luck with narrator so far.

Hey Tiffany! That is a really interesting. I actually have a hard time with a narrator! LOL have you ever tried nvda? It's free for Windows. It's similar to Jaws in a lot of ways, but there's also a lot of email groups and support for it. It's totally free which is awesome! I really need to do a video on it sometime soon. LOL

Love this video. I have: a laptop with NVDA (and JAWS 40 min demo for backup), an iPhone with VoiceOver (my whole family uses iOS devices lol), a QBraille XL display (yes I am a really heavy braille reader and find myself much more productive using a computer with it), and I also currently have a braille notetaker on loan. I'm definitely investigating apps like Seeing AI or Envision AI for recognizing objects or OCR etc as I move into college and beyond. I also love Alexa especially for checking the time. I also use bluetooth headphones but that's mainly because I had issues with my wired ones breaking and I mainly use them for music purposes or just listening to stuff.

Hi there! Sorry for the delay in responding to your comment. All of those pieces of tech are awesome! I don't personally have a braille display, but I'm not a very good braille reader. I read at a kindergarten level when it comes to braille. haha. I'm just so glad that we can all have the tech that we need and I hope that as time goes by, it will be both easier to get and that the technology keeps moving forward! All the best, Carrie!

🎣 hey Karey, wow, there is just so much technology out there. I am hesitant to share all this information with my sighted counterparts because they will assume that I know how to use all of this awesome technology. I truly use my iPhone 8 more than anything and have other devices around the house like Alexa of course, three talking thermostats, a barcode scanner that works very well and, oh yes, clickers for our garage doors. LOL I have some smart bulbs and some smart plugs and last but not least a talking scale which I avoid like the plague. This was really a great video and another great resource because when I personally, want to know how to do something and I am ready to look at other devices, I can go to your videos specifically. Thank you so much for giving us this awesome information
@LiveAccessible
@LiveAccessible 5 жыл бұрын
That's funny that you should mention that. There are so many sided people who have a lot of technology and they don't know exactly how to use it or don't use it to its full potential either so why should people who are going to be any different? LOL that just goes to show how the thinking is. I definitely agree about avoiding the scale like the plague. I wish that you could attach headphones to it or something! Hahaha. I don't want my weight screamed all over the house. I wish I could talk to everything in my house. Lol it's really interesting though. I was visiting Pablo in the hospital last week end he was asking me the time. I just naturally said Alexa, what time is it? And I forgot that there was no Alexa in the hospital. Hahaha. We get or at least I get really used to the technology around me that I don't even realize how much I use it! I hope you're doing well! Are you still in the wheelchair?
@bamablind9916
@bamablind9916 5 жыл бұрын
Live Accessible that is so funny about you and the hospital and asking Alexa what time it is. I do that all the time in my house and even in other places too. I get so used to talking out loud that I kind of look like an idiot when no technological device responds to me. LOL. I even do it while I’m videoing with my iPhone and in my mind I am launching another app, while videoing. I have returned the wheelchair back to its owner , Put the crutches away and I am now hobbling around on the awesome ankle brace that my niece lent me. Later this evening, Jerry and I have to go to a dinner at a restaurant so I am right now trying to figure out what shoes I can wear with this beautiful ankle accessory. LOL

I wonder if the LG Tone headset you have pairs with an iphone? I like that particular design and that the earbuds are retractable. I'm more of a noise blocking full covering ear pads kind of person, but I also prefer behind the neck where they can stay there whether up on your ears or down like a necklace almost. The sleekness is what sound nice if they are good sound in phone calls and with music. I finally got replacement pads for my favorite old motorola headset. I think it's over ten years old, maybe fourteen! Nothing beats it's sound. I just need something a little sturdier for out and about. Preserving the indoor life of my good old HT820's.

hey Audrey! Let me test it with Pablo's iPhone. I know that it connects and works, but I don't know about the app and be short cuts and everything. it is earbuds and not something you put over your ear though. Just has those silicone ear tips and has a bunch of different sizes. I just like it for the convenience of how light and everything it is for me well I'm always on the move. And I also really like the shortcuts that it has. That's another thing I want to do a video on. LOL! But let me get back to you about how it works with iPhone. ☺️

Cool! Thanks Carrie! I like being able to have them down around my neck while navigating where I can hear what's going on around me but also if they are turned up, tell something going on with them just around my neck but off my ears, till I get to a good safety island zone to stand in. I also love a full fledged keyboard!

I have a blue focus 14 braille display from Freedom Scientific. And a company called a can connect purchased it for me the company is for people who are both deaf blind. And I got the braille display because I cannot see I am blind so that means I cannot see print and I have it linked up to my iPhone and I can also link it up to my iPad. And then I also have a Braille note touch 32+ note taker. You can take notes, do emails, search, watch KZfaq, it has Kane FB reader on there, I can do a lot and that is from HUMAN WARE. And I can connect purchased that for me also and came to Tampa where I live to train me on both. And I love them both. 5:20 I use the LIFX smart bulbs. These are great and they change color. The only drawback with them is that setting them up can be very difficult and if you have some vision and you have to have your fonts on your phone in large format you can't see everything on the screen and you can't click all of the buttons while setting up a smart light? The nice thing about these LIFX bulbs is you don't need a hub and your Alexa or other smart speakers can operate them. 7:21 I miss the "physical" keyboard on my old smartphones? I loved those better than the small touch screens. Some touch screen features are very nice but not all of them beat the physical keyboard and the physical arrow buttons when you want to put your cursor in a certain area of your text field. Unfortunately, technology companies don't always think about "ACCESSIBILITY"? 7:53 The thing is that if you wear a Bluetooth headset like the LG Tone motels and you need to use that physical keyboard they both will not work together? Either phones need to be designed to work with two different Bluetooth devices or the keyboard be designed to pair with the phone and automatically pair with the headset? 9:35 I personally use the Windows magnifier where I just hit the Windows key and the plus or minus keys to enlarge the screen so the entire screen is much bigger than what would fit within the screen making you have to scroll to find things. There are some advantages of having your screen bigger but there are some disadvantages like when something pops up and it is not within the window where you can see it?
@LiveAccessible
@LiveAccessible 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Adam! Nice to meet you! I've heard of those bulbs. Pretty neat, though it stinks that it is difficult to set up. They should improve that! I'm curious to know what type of phone you are using? iPhone or Android? As for the physical keyboards, unfortuantely, that is probably not coming back. I agree, nothing beats a keyboard, but I prefer a full sized keybaord like on a PC. I could type pretty fast with those phone keyboards, especially in class where I wasn't supposed to, but I can type much faster on a desktop keyboard. For phones now, vocie dictation is definitely helpful and is getting better all the time and sometimes is much more convenient. I'm not sure why the keybaord won't work when a a bluetooth headset it paired. I often do that and I'm not sure why it wouldn't work. Perhaps something wrong with the phone or the headset. Yes, I use windows magnifier too and its great! I'm glad that it's helpful for you. 😊

@@LiveAccessible I have a few questions and an answer to your question. I use an android. I have had in the past a Stylo 4 and use currently a Revvl+ by T-Mobile. The thing with the keyboard is only one item cold be paired at a time? I was once prepared to purchase a foldable full size travel keyboard a long time ago and once the keyboard was paired my headset disconnected so I never made the purchase. I downloaded the Supersense app and paid for a year. I tried to use the barcode feature and no matter what barcode or how much light or less light I try or no matter what angle I put my phone it will not even great the barcode? Do you have a video or know of a video on how to troubleshoot this problem? Another question? I wanted to find out if you know if you either knew if there are any videos on KZfaq that talk about an actual device called a "Mowat Censor" or a video on an app that you can put on your Android smartphone that would act like one and let me know where a drop off is like a curb so I don't drop off one? I use a power chair and I have dropped off of curbs before when I thought it was a curb-cut because there were hash lines in an ADA parking sport when there was not a curb-cut in the spot there was supposed to be one? Hey! thanks for reaching out to me. So I would definitely recommend something like typer online from American hot printing house for the blind. that can help with typing letters and punctuation and things like that. but for learning other buttons like the function keys and the modifier keys like control, shipt, caps lock and everything, it would be better to use a screen readers keyboard explore mode. If you use a screen reader, let me know which one and I can look up what the keyboard shortcut for it is. The thing is that not all keyboards are the same, so it would be pretty difficult to do a demo about that. I would also contact the division for blind services in your state because they might be able to give you lessons for free and or have the software that can help with learning those other keys.
