Reviewing the Google Pixel Fold bendy phone after one month of testing, including a couple of weeks of using it as my full-time mobile. Does the Google Pixel Fold really have the best camera of any foldable, how's the battery life and is it worth that £1749 UK price??
For a first bendy smartphone, this is an impressive accomplishment. That design is different enough from the crowd, while the Pixel Fold also boasts Google's usual excellent camera setup. You can shoot in any conditions and get realistic pics, although The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is best for video.
That performance is similar to the Pixel 7 series, with the Tensor G2 once again running the show. Battery life is generally good for a foldable phone, although the Google Pixel Fold did die before bed on a couple of days with lots of video streaming.
Apps and Android in general still don't always play nicely with a bendy smartphone and that's just as true here. I'm sure this will improve over time but right now the full and split-screen experience on the Pixel Fold is rather borky.

Highly unlikely a possible/probable Pixel 2 will be any less expensive. Maybe on a somewhat longer term getting a Pixel Fold A-line for less money. Loving the foldables as Well, but 1800€ that's a straight 'no way José!'

Great review! When you are smoothly zooming from 1x into the zoom lens, does the display "jump" when it switches between the lenses? I experience that on my Pixel 6 Pro and am hoping that they solve that before I buy my next one.

Always enjoy your take on tech... even if I can't share it with my friends and family, lol... I had the Pixel Fold... and for the processor (heat, lagging) issues for $1800... it was a no-go! If it was 1200 -1400, I would have been all in on it!

I never had a problem with heat on mine here in the USA you get it 900.00 Att. and 800.00. You have to turn off adatptive charging in setting and you phone charges faster at 30 watts. If your running andoid 14 beta your getting up 2 days battery running cool all the time. Google tweeks in the software is awesome. The cameras software is best of all foldables hands down. I'm loving using compared to my Z fold 3.

I picked up the Pixel Fold today. I also have the 8 Pro. The Fold is an interesting device. The cover display is fairly comfortable to use. The haptics aren't as good as the 7a, 8 or 8 Pro. When unfolded, it's good but not great. It's not optimized for most apps. I'll see how the battery life is. I wouldn't recommend this for most people. The 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8 and 8 Pro all provide a more familiar factor for most folks. If you're an enthusiast, or you're big into foldables, you'll probably like it. Watching videos on it is enjoyable.

I know it will make it clunkier but why not slap a pop socket on the pixel fold? It would make it so manageable when unfolded. Easy use when using on the bed.

Very good video, I'm impatient for the second generation (next year, obviously) but not so much because I didn't like something in itself, but because this first generation except Germany *we haven't seen it in continental Europe* and that seems to me a mistake on Google's part. I imagine that they will improve some details that many youtubers criticize and that I'm sure they also saw necessary.

I think its a good foldable, but they really dropped the ball not putting a better/overclocked processor in the thing. It has the same processor as the pixel 7a which is less that 1/4 the price lol

I really like the look of the fold, it's a really solid first shot at a foldable from Google and I much prefer the form factor they chose compared to Samsung's fold. I think the second iteration of this, provided that the next Tensor chipset boost performance whilst tackling that warm up issue, is going to be a great shout and this one seems like a solid competitor to Samsung now, despite it being first gen. The high price of the fold is unfortunate, but seems like par for the course whilst foldables are niche. I can't see that coming down until the phone is both multiple generations in, to recoup R&D costs, and foldables become more mainstream to make the components cheaper at scale. I'd really love flagship quality cameras on foldables, I don't think there's a good reason not to, but I do dread what it'd do to the already inflated pricing.

Thx for the review. I'm lookinf for a foldable phone BUT, in order for me to buy one they need to adress: 1- form factor - not that squarrish form and better obtimisation. 2- battery life- at least 6 ours screen on time unfolded. 3- price- less than 1000

But don't treat those features as Samsung exclusives, because if you se even newer tablets like the large Lenovo P12 you'll notice multitasking is quite similiar, so most OneUI features either are already part of current Android versions or will be ingegrated into it. Rather, wouldn't it be better making a purchase decision for the device based on its hardware, stuff that you can't change, improve or do anything about unless buying a new one?

I've had mine 3 weeks no heat problems playing games and videos. I was getting 5 to 6 the first week now 7 hours.

Reservation Dogs!!! yeah! I've never had the Jank you are talking about. well, the sometimes locked and sometimes not when you close but I've never had it freeze. I do wish they would let you save pairs. but I am overall VERY happy with the my Fold. I Love it!! I installed beta OS 14 and the battery is much better.

When it comes to the glare on the internal screen, matte screen protectors exist from third parties for most devices, can't help thinking these foldables would suit one of those a bit more, wonder why OEMs don't use them, do most people think they're ugly or something?

@@Walhor Yep, and also how the other side of the screen protector interacts with and adheres to the internal screen most importantly, make it so it won't cause issues after folding thousands of times and so that removing and reapplying it won't be harmful: that must probably be their absolute priority when testing and studying materials for the intended screen protector.
