Design of pneumatic cylinder is explained in this video with relevant animations. Pneumatic cylinder is the linear actuator powered by compressed air to apply force on a load.

What tells the system to release pressure through B once it reaches the end of stroke? Is it a solenoid valve? How is it communicated to the valve to do move to alternate position at end of end stroke?

I don't get why do you subtract (A - a) ? Aren't air supposed to press the whole area? Which means we get the area equals to A ?

Yeah, if the rod occupied all diameter of the bore the force would be zero - which is not likely. Right?

The base end A is really a1(rod) + a2(piston) and the rod end is A-a1 which is actually a2. A is not equal to a2. I hope this helps. -Cheers!

yes, ofcourse. you probably mean is TBM machin.! But more hydraulics are used instead of air. And the push is hundreds of times greater. for exaple, 40 MP - 50 MP(500 BAR) .......... بله.. همینطوره. احتمالاً منظور شما ماشینِ TBMهست. اما بیشتر از سیالِ هیدرولیک بجای سیالِ هوا استفاده میشه اونجا، که فشار صدها برابر بیشتر هست. مثلا 40مگاپاسکال _ ۵۰مگاپاسکال( ۵۰۰بار)

Its good content but I'm wondering where's the switch for opening, to allow compress air to get inside the valve through the piston...because I picture out on my mind on some buses using it on their doors for opening and closing..

a switch controls the valve positioning say for your bus doors the driver operates a switch which controls the valve

Depends on bore size,bigger bore size costs more money but puts out more force for example 1-1/16 bore size cylinder puts out 90 pounds of pressure or max 200 psi

They use pneumatics in disney to prevent oil drippin' on children...maybe a great advantage over hydraulics

True, but the downside is that in a serious damage situation, for example a cylinder under pressure ruptures, fluid will effectively ooze, or leak out whereas a pressurized gas will explode with considerable force.
